'If It's Football, It's Vital'

That's Adebay-More Like It

What ever reasons Arsene may give for benching Adebayor yesterday, I'm of the opinion that it was due to his lazy disposition that has followed him round for most of the season.

99% of Gooners know how valuable Adebayor is to this team, and know what he brings to our play even when he doesn't have the ball.

However just of late that value has decreased and his participation had become minimal, non-existent on occasion. Indeed after the Fenerbahce game last week I spoke of my desire to see him benched, partly because his form deserved it, but also to see the reaction from the big man, to test his mentality.

Well yesterday I got my wish as Nicklas Bendtner took the place of our Togolese target man as we took to the battle field against West Ham.

Wenger's decision appeared as it might backfire as the Gunners struggled to get the break through they deserved. However the introduction of Ade with barely 25 minutes to go and was inspired.

The substitution worked on two levels, the first being bringing on a vital player at a vital time in the game to help secure a vital three points. But most importantly with Ade riding the pine for most of the game it seemed to shake him out of his funk.

The talisman looked sharp, willing to run his arse off (he even managed to stay onside) and at last, he looked interested in the game. It's precisely what the team needed ..... especially with the Spuds coming over for tea on Wednesday (he loves to score against them).

Let hope that this kick up the bum will serve him well for the rest of the season.

And who says Arsene can't be ruthless.

No one can deny he had an impact. We were very fortunate that his wayward shot was deflected in for the first goal. All strikers need luck like that I guess. He owes Bendtner for the 2nd goal. That was a sublime ball to him that was not only inch perfect but enticed Green out of his area to make the task of finishing that much easier.
Amos.
I also think Gallas was brilliant yesterday. Everyone looks at one mistake to put himd own, but he put in a solid performance yesterday.
paul_ownz
I agree with Paul. Definately one of Gallas' best performances for us. Song played well too! I think starting on the bench was the kick up the bum Ade needed.

Rocky, because of the naive nature of the majority of Arsenal fans (sadly) it seems that you have to get an eight out of ten to get noticed if you are Adebayor or Gallas. I would say that 60% of Arsenal fans appreciate Adebayor but the others are just swept with the wind at the moment. Mindless idiots who believe either one side or the other without much thought.

Agreedayor with all the points above

That one is questionable GM!! lol

That was Adebador GM

Leave it to the season veterans guys!!! lol

or Adebapoor... Like anything, its easier to jump on the bandwagon. I always make up my own opinion. I think Gallas has been better than Toure this season, but because people are on his back now for every small thing(ciggy) he will get slated. Both players are vital and are the best we have in their respective positions
paul_ownz
I agree that you need to form your own opinions too. But I do believe the ciggy thing was worth getting on his back for. Solid performance yesterday, marshalled the defence really well and was always in command.
Rocky7
Haha glad the puns are back! :D Ade admitted as much that he had "something to prove" and wanted to come on and help the team. Way to go Adebay-score! I thought our defence did well, Almunia pulled off 2 exceptional saves, Silvestre and Gallas contained Cole well, the whole back 4 also worked hard to deal with Bellamy's pace and Di Michele's creative moves. Best defensive performance this season. Like I said, I wasn't / am not worried about the goals. So the improvement in defence was very pleasing.

LOL! Well I should at least be noted for originality! I'm sure all the obvious one are done - best start looking for more tenuous concepts for his name. Good thing he didn't seem so lazy against west ham, was worried he's been having adepiemore *sigh*
Gunnerman
Tom14 - I think the fact fans think Ade[aymemore is total and utter c*** is because of the shabby way he treated the club then the badge kissing and the statement yesterday "i never wanted to leave, it wasn't about money" all of that utter bollox has and rightly so, clouded peoples judgement of the greedy, lying ingrate and for to conclude that as naiveity is, ironically, showing a great deal of it yourself.

*and for you to conclude*

LG I have to agree that I felt I/we were treated like we're stupid when I read those Ade comments. Anyway, all I'm interested in is his on-pitch performances now. For me he's just a tool for Arsene to use and win matches. But well done Ade.
GoonerLou
LG, why not say the same things about Fabregas? he has openly admitted to talking to Real Madrid and discussed signing for Barca in the future.
Tom14
I think this is a bit harsh on Adebayor, other than the Everton game I don't think he has been disinterested, he just hasn't been playing well. But I can understand, after the way he acted in the summer, Adebayor made a rod for his own back which means from now on he will be scrutinised negatively, he probably deserves that much.
Little Dutch
To be honest LD, I'm over his summer antics, I've forgotten about them. I truly believe he has looked very very lazy on the pitch. There was a time he would chase down every lost cause, and put his heart and sole into it even if he didn't have a good game, but to me his effort has been non-existent recently, maybe because he was assured of a first team place, but glady the boss showed who is, well, the boss, and it seemed to have paid dividends.
Rocky7
Maybe he is at a level now where he knows he can score with less running around and more skill. He had a major burn out/dip in form last season. Coulc he be saving himself? Score a goal, win the game, three more points and move on.
Tom14
I agree with Rocky - a loss of form should not mean a reduction in work rate. Ade was deservedy benched (something which I had hoped for last week). Wenger had an interesting take on it, which seems to suggest that Ade's goals drying up in Jan had something to do with being over-worked. I see another positive - that Wenger is doing sometging about last seasons' mistake in squad fatigue in Feb !
prits
A Brilliant tactic by Wenger, to put Adebayor on the bench.
