'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Another DVD? Seriously?

When Tottenham embarrassed our Carling cup side earlier in the season we all had a bit of a chuckle when it was made known that Tottenham had released a dvd of the game, just as they had done when they'd beaten Chelsea earlier that season.

To be fair, they hadn't beaten us in a really long time and gave us a footballing lesson that night, and whilst it was still a bit sad, it was understandable.

However upon opening the old email inbox this morning imagine my disbelief when one of my emails contained a link to a page on the Tottenham site proudly displaying a form on which you could pre-order a dvd featuring a 4-4 draw against the Arsenal.

I guess we should all be praying for Harry Redknapp to keep Spurs up, because no matter how infuriating this Arsenal side can be, we've always got Tottenham to cheer us up.

:)

Apart from the first 15 and the last 7 minutes the bit in between would be pretty painful viewing for them. But those 22 minutes must be priceless to a team propping up the rest of the league.
Amos.
"lol" is all I can type. Speechless.
GoonerLou
Ah, then I think this classy fellow should also publish an autobiography just for this "best night of his career": http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/football/Bentley-Gunners-game-was-best.4648560.jp
GoonerLou
An article with a humorous slant on it? You'll have the Mary Whitehouse brigade on you if you're not careful. Back to the topic, this is totally unreal. We all feel like it was a defeat, but really, it was actually a draw, both teams got one point. They got a bit of pride back on Wednesday and now they do this? Was this the brainchild of the same genius who decided they should have a brown away kit?
Little Dutch
I thought their brown away kit was very appropriate and quite practical really. At least this dvd will be in colour unlike their 'greatest title wins' compilation dvd.
Amos.
Its probably realesed for the 90 percent of Spuds fans that left the game at 4-2 down.
paul_ownz
Guys, i understand having humour and poking fun but surely you should be looking at your own problems and not into how your rivals attempt to get even more money out of their fans??? i also find it quite weird that an arsenal fan would receive email information about spurs products. As for most of the game being painful for spurs fans, think you are being a tad harsh there. Spurs played very well and i would have been proud of the lads even if the score had remained 4-2 as we had really put up a fight when you consider how we have been playing this season. I know several arsenal fans (my father and uncle beign two of them) and they all said that in their opinion a draw was a fair result
spursfan4eva
1st half performance a draw was a fair result. 2nd Half we dominated and should of been out of sight.
paul_ownz
Agreed, Ownz. Spursfan4eva, is a bit rich of a Spuds fan to talk about other side's "own problems". You can't blame people for poking fun at something like a DVD release of a drawn game!
Moorish
You may have dominated but our players put in good performances (apart from Hutton and Gomes) so in my opinion it was worth a draw. Of course everybody see's things differently so i am sure many will disagree with me
spursfan4eva
oh this is great, a dvd again, spurs can brighten all of our days up!
Osgood_Spirit
Sf4e! It's Friday and Wenger hasn't given his pressconference yet ..... we gotta print something, and you gotta admit, it's pretty funny.
Rocky7
What is really, really funny is that many spuds will not see just how funny it is. They really do think it is worth a commemorative dvd!
Amos.
It gets worse they are holding a competition to win the boots worn by the payers who scored the goals. I could understand a carling cup dvd but not about 1 game ffs. I dont know who actually buys them tbh...Still a great result though;-)
woddywoo
It was a good result for you. Made all the more so because of the late drama. But other than Bentleys goal which will be worth seeing a few times and the last 7 minutes most of the game wouldn't be all that comfortable for you to watch. I can imagine anyone buying it would find the fast forward button very useful.
Amos.
the fact is it was a very good derby in all aspects, 1, it was spurs and arsenal. 2, the football was very good from both sides and at some points you didnt know where it could go. 3, it had probably one of the best comebacks i have ever seen. 5 minutes to go, 4-2 down and we come back to draw. i know gooner fans wont agree but it was like a win, you should have been out of sight but we ruined it and you lost 2 points. and thats what made it so special. and i would watch it again. and we wouldnt rewind nothing. simply because we know what happens. but i wouldnt buy a DVD on it. the fact is, it was a very good game of football
SidTheYid_1990
left the game at 4-2 down. wouldnt you with 1 minute to go. i remember gooner fans leaving being 3-0 down at white hart lane last season because i was next door to them. so dont start getting into that. thats why it was so special. because there was no way we would have got anything from the game
SidTheYid_1990
You're kidding woddy? (and yes Bentleys goal is worth seeing a few times, though not by me ... lol)
Rocky7
lol bentleys goal was amazing. i was like. nooo, that cant go in. lol. jenas' goal was good and the shot from modric was mental. van persies goal was pretty impressive. the power was class. the other goals were headers and adebayors scramble. but in all it was a really good game.
SidTheYid_1990
spursfan4eva - No Arsenal fan would admit that a draw was a fair result, none!
LondonGooner
I thought Modrics shot took a massive deflection .... was I just seeing things?
Rocky7
I thought it did too Rocky tbh but the way the balls move nowadys who knows... I kid you not win the signed boots;-)
woddywoo
LOL! DVD of a draw? Wow... How about a DVD of Arsenal 5, Middlesbrough 3. To this day I've only seen the goals of that game :(
Patresc Vieiragas
Auctioning off those signed boots is a bit embarrassing to be honest. Wondered where you were getting all this loot for the new stadium. Back to the game, an amazing spectacle for a neutral/Spurs fan. But for us gooners, who some may harbour title ambitions (no idea why) it's difficult to take, and bearing in mind Arsenal ALWAYS put us through the mill, i could just see the last couple of goals coming.
shewore
Those are about as good as the boot Ashley Cole gave to a kid at the last ever game at Highbury. The kid went mental ... I bet a few months later they were in the bin!! lol
Rocky7
Not an auction you WIN them... Just text your name to a premium rate number and never hear bugger all again until you get your mobile bill with 4 added to it...
woddywoo
Simple as this they see this game as a win we see it as a loss thats the difference in expectation and class
gunner24
good job there werent too many extra minutes....or you may have lost it !
lincolnblue
LG, i beg to differ. I personally know several Arsenal fans that have admitted a draw was a fair result. Choose to believe me or not, makes no odds to me.
spursfan4eva
gunner24, Spurs fans and players are chuffed with the result the other night because we were 4-2 down with 1 minute left of normal time. That has nothing to do with class or expectation. Think you are being a bit dishonest if you think you wouldn't be the same if the roles were reversed. If spurs had been 4-2 up with 1 minute left then you all would have been crowing as loud as you could how we messed up ect. You also have to take into consideration the season we have been having of late and the fact that no realistic spurs fan expected anything from this game
spursfan4eva
pathetic
TPowell
spursfan4eva -- I can say with all certainty that we would never release a DVD over a draw in the middle of the season. An official DVD is quite different from fans 'crowing.' Sorry you're too dumb to realise this.
TPowell
TPowell, i dont really think there is any need for insults as i have only stated facts and not been hostile. I also have not attacked your club so think that there is little need for your response. You may well not release dvd's over a draw or in mid season but spurs have and it is not exactly a shock. Most spurs fans are used to seeing prices rising or things being released to generate extra revenue.
spursfan4eva
You attacked our veracity before I attacked your intelligence. Though you present yourself in a calm manner, do not say you were not hostile first. It is still my opinion that a DVD is embarrassingly over-the-top, so to speak.
TPowell
This is nothing to do with the fans really, as if you look at the spurs forums most people aren't happy with it.It is just another money spinner from the money men trying to rince even more hard earned from loyal fans,so all in all not that funny. All clubs are guilty of it to some degree or another .you released one last season despite your league capitulation,Why would you want to watch that?I daresay you have released one every year despite not winning anything recently, why coz these(*nts try and rince every single penny thats why and its just ours seem to be worse than most.Still it seems you haven't learnt your lessons on being smug and arrogant, laugh away, you won't be able to beat the laugh you gave us the other night.I also here there's trouble in the ranks too...oh dear
parklanebert
i dont come online to talk about problems, i come to be entertained, this article did its job
bootoo
TPowell, in my opinion i was not hostile once. I explained that i personally knew several arsenal fans that thought the game was worthy of a draw and it was a fair result. I then stated that i didnt care whether i was believed or not (again not hostile) as i believed the next response would be to diss me as some form of liar. So unfortunately i dont believe my response's warranted the response i received. All a matter of opinion of course. As for the dvd, you will more than likely find a large portion of spurs fans stating that it is over the top but we are used to it now. It is just something you have to get used to when being a spurs fan unfortunately. I will leave you guys to it now though as i dont want to be seen to be hijacking your forum so apologies if anyone feels that is the case
spursfan4eva
Sf4e, if fans dont like DVDs being released for things like it, a simple boycott of the product would make the money men realise there is no money in this. Of course, this only means that there is a market for such products, meaning spurs fans do go out and buy these DVDs. You did well to draw the game, and you deserve to be pleased and happy about the point (so would we if we had been in the same position).
prits
parklanebert - An end-of-year DVD (which all clubs release, and I bet sales do fluctuate according to how successful the season has been) is a different matter to a DVD dedicated solely to one league game in the middle of the season which was a DRAW.
Moorish
exactly Moorish, every club releases an end-of-year DVD, but only one pathetic club releases a middle of the season draw DVD
TPowell
TPowell only one club has dedicated an article about it on vital football.Surely that is just as pathetic?? I accept the DVD is silly but you just sound bitter to me...
woddywoo
When we played WBA in the Carling Cup a few years ago, I saw WBA advertising an end of season DVD for the year they were relegated from the Premiership. All teams release end of season DVDs and I always, always buy the Arsenal one. I usually spend the summer in a darkened room, watching it over and over again, stewing in my own filth. However, for a one off game it's a bit much, we don't even release our Cup Finals on DVD anymore. Wins in the Bernebeu and the San Siro were given away to subscribers to the Arsenal magazine. But I can say with some certainty that we haven't and never would, release one of an October draw in a London derby, no matter the context. But particualrly when said draw keeps you bottom of the league. A friend of mine compared this stunt by Spurs to a wino who has surrendered that last shred of dignity and made that step of thinking, "yeah, why not enjoy my can of Special Brew in a shop doorway?"
Little Dutch
You talking abot Tony Adams LD? ;-)
woddywoo
no its not woddywoo, for you see the vital network costs nothing to produce nor anything to view. Nor are we viewing this article as any sort of accomplishment worth noting, nice try though.
TPowell
Costs nothing to produce??? So you think the site is run by love?? Not worth noting? Its got 40 odd responses lol, all clubs do marketing..
woddywoo
It costs nothing for the editors nor the writers of the site now does it. Therefore the article cost nothing to produce.
TPowell
Its good that totenham fans gets to buy and see that match over and over again, and see how superior our team is. Apart from a few minutes when we stepped of the gas, and never impose ourself, they can see how it is playing Arsenal like when we lay siege onto their half. That superiority will never go away, and tottenham can only dream about matching that no matter what technical players they get. Its our own defensive blunders that gave them those goals on a silver platter. We will only get better by fixing those error's and when we stregthen our midfield by getting a DM. So have fun spurs fan seeing our gulf in football knowledge and style of play.
nevidimka
Besides, it doesn't change the point which you conceded, that this DVD is silly and embarrassing, so no need for you to post here anymore
TPowell
prits-I suppose it benefits foreign fans etc but thats about it,I really don't know who buys them but you're right someone must.Fairplay also for acknowledging you'd be pleased/ happy just the same. Some of the comments on here are pretty sad and almost as bad as our club releasing the dvd,it seems a lot of your fans need to find something to tell themselves they are amazing and better etc and reassure their over inflated egos ,when I'd of thought you would of wanted to move on from this game as quick as poss ,I mean is this dvd release really on a par with throwing away a 2 goal lead in a couple of mins?does this really save face and make you all feel better? its just clutching at any straw isn't it?As for the people that try to make out that us celebrating is some kind of victory for you and makes you bigger and better wtf?I learnt when I was a little kid that in football there are winning draws ,when you walk out the ground feeling on top of the world ,when you've snatched something from nothing and there are losing draws when you throw away a lead and feel like crap,I mean this happens from the prem to the conference and it makes me wonder whether any of you are actually football fans at all,it seems that a lot of you have lost touch with what football is all about ,understandably I suppose due to the "top 4" media machine etc and are all too far up your own jacksy's to realise how mind numbingly desperate you sound to save some face and convince yourselves of your superiority, wtf does it matter to you what gets sold in our shop and what has it really got to do with anything? anyway I won't say good luck for the weekend but enjoy your game all the same
parklanebert
Why TP?? Is it not better to have two sides to a story than just 1?? Or are you upset about something? I will post wherever I like thanks I don't abuse anyone.. Parklane makes some interesting points me thinks...
woddywoo
But you conceded that the DVD is silly. That is your side and that is my side. So how are you presenting another side to the story? And by insulting the site you are giving out abuse. Did anything in your previous post make sense?
TPowell
I didn't insult your site did I? I didn't say I thought it was pathetic I asked you your opinion on this thread thats all...
woddywoo
Parklanebert, I don't think the article was any sort of attempt at catharsis. It's just really, bloody funny. For 48 hours this season, Spurs have stopped being a lughing stock. This has plunged them straight back to the butt of everybody's jokes. Basically, our players were so wound up and disgusted at the thought of drawing with you, that they had a full on row in the dressing room. I haven't heard any such reports emanating from the Lane in the nine years since you last beat us in the league.
Little Dutch
I have never heard our manager complain about the noise made at WHL... its not a surprise you could hear the players coz the fans dont make enough noise... According to Whenger that is;-)
woddywoo
Wenger;-) Typo...
woddywoo
I'm really tired of this false argument. Look, the atmosphere at our ground is *****. The atmosphere at your ground is *****. The atmosphere at every ground in the country is *****. There aren't many league stadiums I ahven't visited and I can tell you, they are all devoid of atmosphere. That's just modern football honey and all this posturing that your ground is somehow different is nearly as deluded as your yearly top 4 aspirations.
Little Dutch
worry about yer own internal issues that slowly rotting away with yer team, how long before agin will we see a bust up betweeen arse players on the pitch.....COYS.
123spurs
Coming from a Spurs fan on an Arsenal site? When Spurs are currently 20th in the table? Are you for real?
Little Dutch
its a game of 2 halfs its a game for 90 + minutes,,,,,,,,,, now get over it, we came back from the dead. last season we lost 2-1 to ye after playing a make shift team an also missin a peno.
123spurs
Or your yearly 'we will win the champions league' aspirations.. Villa park is brilliant actually. I am just repeating what your manager said LD;-) Honey?? You cheeky boy...
woddywoo
doesnt say much if ye cant beat a team 20th plus winning 3-1 and -4-2 at 89 minutes....hilarous, and our top 4 us gettin top 4 media hype again,.....how about arse to win prem every year..........whats is yer aspirations, accept yer not good enough just like we are not good enough for top 4, villa will put ye close this season.
123spurs
Oh, 1961 before anyone asks... we do know thanks;-)
woddywoo
There aren't ever too many gooners claiming that we will win anything - plenty believing that we can compete and hoping that we will win something. But whatever we are closer to the title aspiration than you are to your CL place. I shouldn't worry about Villa's form 123spud. It's Newcastle, Wigan, Bolton et c., that you need to keep an eye on.
Amos.
see, that's the difference you two, you'll find that most of us at the beginning of the season did not think we had done enough in the transfer window for us to win the league, myself included, where as you lot really thought you were going to make it into the top 4 this season, and if you check the league table, we're closer to first than you are to 4th, there really is no argument there.
TPowell
LD- I had said all I was going to say and was off to leave you s*******ing like a bunch of smug, spoilt little school kids, its funny your team used to be worse than watching paint dry(although successful) but your fans were real and although there was still the obvious hatred/rivalry was generally a good crack, but You lot definitely lost something along the way,I suppose in those days although getting success you wasn't guaranteed it as a lot of different teams could win the league, cups etc.whereas now due to the "top4" media bull you believe all your own hype.Back then you knew how to lose I suppose and take your medicine rather than find anything to try and reinforce your self visions of grandeur,I don't know whether its wenger or lots of sky tv fans or what but its definitely a shame .As for your players rowing ,thats nothing new either I watched them do it on the pitch last season and again you try and make out thats a good thing! The reason they do that is because they, just like the fans/Manager have no humility, think they have a god given right to win and don't no how to act when things go wrong,in a nut shell have no class. So the dvd was funny but like I said before no where near as funny as 4-2 and ya f***ed it up.............................
parklanebert
TPowell-the only people that thought spurs could challenge the top 4 was the media,99% of the fans didn't FACT, but still, even if that were true heaven forbid some upstart could aspire to taking your place eh lets all laugh hahaha ...........
parklanebert
Its true the media does lead to our down fall....
woddywoo
true park i agree thats there get out card to us = top 4, which cud be same for them tryin to win league = no chance
123spurs
All this article is doing is trying to swerve the fact that we embarrased you again n you cant deal with it.have you forgot last time you came back against us from 2goals down with a whole 2nd half 2go n our crazy you went in a meaningless "mickey mouse cup game" well we did it with a minute 2go. we're bottom of the league fighting 4points against our north london rivals who r goona give it 2us big time in the morning so yeah we went crazy n loved puting a spanner in your title hopes. as 4 the dvd so what i wont be buying it myself but if others want 2enjoy watching the stewards trying 2pull the spurs fan out from underneath the celebrating spurs players. look on wenger's face n gallas walking off muttering like a mad man then good luck 2them. ps they can also enjoy the 4english goal scorers. enjoy your end of season dvd with your pretty football with nothing 2show 4it you sorry bunch of losers.
dspurs64
Or you ever attending a game = no chance.
shewore
Good post shewore... Highly original but alas I have a season ticket and have had it for 16 years now;-)
woddywoo
Not you, your posts are for the most of the time adult, and although i wouldn't say thought provoking... not that bad ;-)
shewore
parklanebench - whatever it is you think we gooners are doing/have done wrong since the good old gooner days - when fans were real - it has clearly worked a lot better than whatever it is that you have been doing in that time. So what's to regret? As for it being only the media who rated your chances this season you should take a look back at some of the Vitalspuds front page articles in the summer. When it comes to dealing with the game it is gutting to drop 2 points in the way we did but then we moved up a place and you stayed where you are. So we have dealt with it and move on. The funny thing about the dvd is that you lot just don't see how funny everyone else sees it.
Amos.
Dspurs we have 4 articles below this one saying how embarassing we were, how Fabregas & adebayor have egg on their face, how we are incapable of seeing out games, how we have a small squad, naiveness, lack of Defensive midfield, leadership and all the rest. But you chose to write in this topic. Bunch of losers? We are still sitting 3rd compared to bottom. 123 Spurs, the difference is we have won the league & last year were top for months. You have never arrived 4th and have not looked like doing so appart from on one occasion.
paul_ownz
Again amos... 'everyone else'??? it only seems to be on vital arsenal to me...
woddywoo
ive been to many a game including 5-1, but like you prob left after 60 minutes like rest of them
123spurs
It was just a mild exaggeration for the sake of emphasis woddywoo - though a chelski supporter posting above thought it was funny too. Not absolutely everyone thinks its funny of course. I am sure some people think it's a truly brilliant idea and are, at this very moment - well maybe not just yet - that's another exaggeration - working on the 'we beat the drop' dvd.
Amos.
Well they certainly haven't had to work on any winning anything dvds at the emirates since it was built... Oh no, wait, the Amsterdam tournament how could I forget...
woddywoo
paul. i was talking about your fans being a sorry bunch of losers. your players are just a sorry bunch full stop. so what you we're top for months last season if you aint top in may it dont count.
dspurs64
ok let me put it like this. You would trade our success in the last 20, 15, 10 or even 5 years for what you have achieved.
paul_ownz
You talk of our players being arrogant but pre season Jenas, Bentley, Woodgate along with Ramos and Poyet were all talking about top 4. They completley dismissed the likes of Villa, Pompey and all the other teams that finished above you...is that not arrogant? Talking about real fans when your boys celebrated with about 10 people when they got the equaliser? what happend to the famous, bestest, most amazing fans in the country? We have our problems but we are no more arrogant as fans or as a club than spurs, just do a survey of the vital network and I bet you rank way top in the arrogance stakes.

here u go i decide to waste a few seconmds of my life, an rem ye were 8 points ahead....http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/7331494.stm it was said on april 4th almost aprils fools day
123spurs
Fact is we were 4 points of doing it. After going close you HAVE to target winning it. You finished 11th and havent been in the top half of the league since may 2007.....how arrogant to then target 4th place.
iceman10
yes we have ambition an top is a aim for us just like ye to win league aint it, both failing miserabley
123spurs
4 points an 8 points up, yes from bottom 3 to mid table not best but we won silverware, got us into europe which was our aim due to position we were in
123spurs
My point is we are no more arrogant than you and your fellow fans and I doubt there are many people in the world more arrogant than that dirty little chav David Bentley (youve just drawn a game, your bottom, your form has been abysmal so show some class in front of the cameras). So yes Fabregas and co were wrong with their comments and maybe a few fans got carried away but this happens at your club on an annual basis.
iceman10
Villa Park is *****e, just like every other ground. You talk about knowing how to lose, but several Spurs fans commented on my match report and said how balanced it was? As for humility, show me a good loser and I'll show you a loser. Spurs' history is littered with them. "We embarrassed you again" only in Spudland is a draw considered embarrassing another team. Once again 123spurs "defence" is that Spurs are ***** so it's not worth us laughing at them. Mate, Ashley Cole's ghost writer could do a better job than that.

Villa park is *****e?? If thats you opinion fine but I have yet to see a more amazing sight in football than the Holte end going mental. Have you only been there for semis or something?? Shher arrogance would be saying the team you are about to play would do weel to get a draw against you ladies.... I can't think of an example to throw at you though:-)
woddywoo
for all of those of you wishing to abuse Spurs for selling the boots of the goalscorers from Wednesday night, please note that the money collected will go to the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, a charity designed to improve the quality of life and outcomes for disadvantaged children in North London. For this particular auction the money will be spent on making it easier for visually impaired fans to watch football at WHL, both home and away fans. As for the DVD, it was a great game - almost a classic, and as all clubs indulge in money making exercises it is no better or worse than any other.
Kernowboy71
and all clubs and players speak promisingly about their prospects pre-season. Show me a player or manager who dismisses their clubs' chances and I will show you a collapsing share price. Considering Spurs start to the season and the fact Harry had only been in charge for 3 days, a draw coming from two goals down at a ground where we have a poor record is something that Spurs can take pride in especially as it was a game that on paper you should have walked. I actually thought it could have been a reverse scoreline from last season's Carling Cup semi. Tim Stillman's review was balanced except for stating more clearly that at least 3 of your goals came from our defensive howlers and you could watch an entire season without seeing the likes of Hutton make similar mistakes again - Ill give you Gomez' mistakes on a match by match basis though. And as Rocky7 has indicated, Bentley showed a touch of class when celebrating his goal so the comments directed at him by some fans are bang out of order.
Kernowboy71
Agree with most of what you say KB71 but for me Bentleys post match interview was a joke. If I saw an Arsenal player behaving like that I would have been embarrased as I was at Cescs comments pre game.
iceman10
No, they haven't ,have they REAL! A dvd about a draw?! Wow! they are so funny! That's just so brilliant, it's Priceless just Priceless!!!
hackneyval
KB71 - Just to bring it to your attention that it was a Spurs supporter who brought the boot auction to our attention, and also was the one who portrayed his dissmay.
Rocky7
And yeah, Bentley behaved like a first class bellend in the post match interview, it looked like he had tourettes or something, with his stupid exagerated fake smiles.
Rocky7
You guys were lucky, SPURS should have won the game.
ivanskg
we can sell the dvd, tape, LP, A track i dont care.....we still made a fool of you and you beloved bentley still scored from the halfway line....mugs
chinaman123
woddywoo, I've been to Villa Park every time that Arsenal have played there since 1998. The atmosphere is as lifeless there as it as everywhere else.
