'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A new club record within sight

A little piece in yesterdays match programme has caught my eye. So far this season we have had 17 different goal scorers in all competitions. The club record is 18 - a record we have achieved 4 times previously all in the Wenger era 2002/3, 2004/5, 2005/6, 2006/7.

Having reached the 17 point at what is still a relatively early stage in all competitions we must be in with a shout of beating that target this season.

Where will it come from though?

The scorers so far this season are; Adebayor, Clichy, Denilson, Fabregas, Gallas, van Persie, Eboue, Walcott, Nasri, Song, Bendtner, Silvestre, Diaby, Vela, Ramsey, Simpson and Wilshere.

Assuming Eduardo is back playing before Christmas there must be a fair chance that he will score before the seasons end to equal the record. That leaves first teamers Toure, Sagna, and Djourou as most likely candidates to break it. Of course Rosicky could come back - one day, perhaps, mightn`t he? Maybe the Carling Cup team will come up with a new scorer - Randall maybe, Bischoff even, Gibbs perhaps?

Then again there is still time to sign a player or two in the January window. If so then there`s the opportunity to write an instant paragraph in the history books.

If the record is on and we get a penalty in a nothing to lose game look out for an unusual choice of penalty taker. Maybe Almunia should start practising them just in case.

Could Sagna or Kolo bang one in asap, then let Dudu break the record please? :)
