Just like Tottenham fans, it seems some Arsenal players don't know when to stop talking and let their actions speak for themselves.
In discussions over at Vital Chelsea before the game this weekend, talk turned to players making ill-advised comments in the press prior to football matches. It was then I predicted that should we emerge victorious from Stamford Bridge that one of three Arsenal players (van Persie, Fabregas or Adebayor) would issues comments talking about the re-ignition of our title charge.
Of course, it was Adeabyor who proved me correct.
The lanky Togan said, 'Winning means everybody can say we are keeping our title dreams alive but the main thing is to keep going. Maybe we have a little bit more concentration for the big teams and that is something we are going to work on very hard. We all believe in the boss. He is here to help us and we are here to help the fans.'
Whilst Ade's comments also looked at the need for focus and concentration against the 'lesser' teams (and I guess his spirit and belief should be admired) it just irks me somewhat to hear players talking about our title chances whilst we are still in the midst of such inconsistency.
Had these comments come on the back of a 5 match winning streak then I could understand it, but I would have thought that making similar statements after beating Man Utd earlier this month and then slumping to 2 consecutive defeats, conceding 5 goals and scoring precisely none, would have taught us a thing or two about humility.
Please, let's just forget about the league title for now, and concentrate on beating Wigan and we'll see where it goes from there.
Ok?
Ok.
