'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Vieira says 'Denilson can be one of the best'

Patrick Vieira, Wengers first signing for the club even though he joined before the manager did, has endorsed Denilson as a midfield player set to become one of the club`s best.

The former gunners star joined Arsenals midfield at about the same age as Denilson has and went on to dominate the clubs midfield for 9 years. He is reported to have said: 'We need to give him more time to develop as a player but he can be one of the best players at the club…. He is young and has so many qualities and he's only in his first years of playing in the Premier League. He and Fabregas can play together, all the good players can play together.'

In a separate interview with the Guardian he said on the same theme, while praising Flamini`s contribution last season, 'When you look at the talent of Flamini and the talent of the new Brazilian guy, Denilson, it's not the difference,' as he continued. 'He is really talented but maybe he needs more time to express himself. He needs to learn more because the more you play, the better you will be"

Of the current criticism of his former clubs performance Vieira said that the team had to find some team spirit more than they had to find new players.

"Of course new players may help them to get better as a team" he said "What they really need at the moment is to find a togetherness‚ to be strong as a team and that will help them more than getting new players."

"From the outside it looks like Arsenal are not together. They have not found themselves yet as a team. The strength of Arsenal has always been the team. It takes more than individual players to perform."

Again in the Guardian report he tells supporters "My message to the fans would be to be patient and calm, Arsène knows what he is doing. Being in London and seeing the Arsenal fans, the thing that is coming really often is the frustration because they want to win trophies and they know that the talent is there but they are still missing something.

"I don't know if they need to get players, I just really believe that they need to get a bit more together. I don't write them off. They can surprise so many teams and, even if they don't do what they expect to do in the championship, they can in the Champions League."

He's absolutely right, Denilson is an excellent player who I have liked since his debut and he can go on to be absolutely world class, of that I've no doubt. I just hope that when he makes that leap, he'll continue to wear our colours rather than jumping ship to Catalunya or Madrid.

Ironic thought, remembering how often Vieira fluttered his eyelashes in the direction of Madrid. Let's hope he feels at home here.
Amos.
This season will be a tremendous help in Denilsons future development, playing wide will give him a knowledge of how and when to give his wingers and strikers service from different positions. His work rate is very good, his assist record this season is very good he just lacks a little positional sense for this position at present but that will come.

I agree! confused how somy gooners say he is not good enough or whatever. His stats say different and he has been one of our most consistant players.

Amen to all that!

I like this boy, he doesn't lack talent or attitude or work rate. It's just playing time and the experience will come, hence decision-making and maturity.

Denilson can do a decent job out wide, but not with another CM on the other flank. And he has done well in the middle, but the team has suffered coz Cesc was out of form. His work rate is consistently good, even in the last 2 games when the team was slightly poor. There is nothing world class about him right now, but there is nothing to stop him from becoming one in 1-2 seasons.

Maybe if he got some support from the fans rather than the constant complaining then he will still be with us for a while LD - based on his interviews he really loves it at Arsenal.
Passenal
he doesnt captain the brazilian youth team if he has no talent
