Arshavin Wants The Shirt Off Gallas' Back

Arshavin Wants The Shirt Off Gallas' Back

Despite Arsenal's first bid for Andrei Arshavin being rejected, the wily play-maker is already thinking about his shirt number at the club.

Arsene Wenger had been unusually coy about the signing of Arshavin, refusing to comment on the transfer despite dismissing all other rumours, indeed shortly after Zenit themselves stated negotiations were on going.

Arshavin says he would prefer the number 10 shirt that currently resides on the back of William Gallas, but knows the shirt is taken.

'I would prefer my present No.10 but in the team where I hope to move it's not vacant. So I'm ready for any number they are going to offer me,'

The Russian also hinted that he could adapt to the Gunners style quite easily after his current team performed in a similar fashion last season.

'In some games last season, we played football which was very similar to that of Arsenal'

That's true CG, but the way he's always talking about Arsenal and have never once mentioned Man City get my spidey senses tingling!!

He had just been answering questions about Arsenal Coastarian when he mentioned shirt numbers. I have it on good authority that he has no interest in joining City despite them offering the most money to Zenit. This is what is causing the hold up as Arshavin can buy out his contract for 5m if it comes to that. Arsenal know that they are in the box seat on this.

if he does come to us, gallas should give his shirt i reckon. i've always had a problem with a defender taking bergkamp's shirt. didnt someone give bergkamp the number 10 shirt when he joined?

I'm not sure Supersof - but that will never happen unless the club agree to reemburse all those who got "Gallas 10" on the back of their new shirts at the start of the season.

Hiya Rocky. My internet police seemed to have banned the site for a while. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, much like Alex Song.

I don't think there were many of those Rocky! Merson did volunteer his number 10 shirt to Bergkamp but that was in the close season, number swaps aren't permitted during the season. Basically, I'm relaxed about this, if Arshavin does go to Citeh it'll prove he isn't the type of character we want. This transfer will drag on but I'm sure it will be concluded this month, Zenit know they're not really holding any good cards here, especially if the player is that intent on joining us that he will threaten to buy out his contract. I reckon £12m and a few add ons will see this one done. Eventually.

I wonder if Gallas would makes threats of scoring an oggy if they gave Arshavin his shirt? They do say lightning never strikes twice though:) Maybe he'll just bring down Agbonlahor when we are 2 up and coasting to bring Villa back into an important game....Doh.
