Arsenal To Offer Eboue New Contract

Arsenal To Offer Eboue New Contract

According to the players agent, Arsenal are set to offer Ivorian midfielder, Emmanuel Eboue a new contract as the North London outfit reject an offer from Atletico Madrid.

Franjo Vranjkovic claims the offer was rejected immediately and was followed up with a call from Wenger offering to enter into contract negotiations.

We received a few days ago an official request from Atletico Madrid which was passed to Arsenal," Vranjkovic told tuttomercatoweb.

"I have the fax from the British club`s director, Ken Friar, who wrote to me to say they are not interested in the offer and the player remains in London.'

"Then I received a call from Arsene Wenger, who invited me to go to England to start negotiations over a renewal, so I see no possibility that the player will leave Arsenal."

Many Arsenal fans (me included) believe Eboue isn't good enough to be a first team player at Arsenal, however in lean times such as these he could make a useful squad player.

i think he is a squad player, sometimes he can be fine! other times slightly dodgy! but im happy he is still here, once he is more confident he may start to show a bit more and prove the boo boys wrong!

I like him as a squad player to fill in at RB, occasionaly RM and in if injuries really hit then CM. I think he can play most of these roles to a reasonable standard. Unfortunatly he has played too many games in too many positions this season, some of them injured.

What's the betting that if the Arshavin transfer falls through, there'll be a story on arsenal.com on February 2nd announcing Eboue's new contract under the title "Eboue is a pass master"?

Such cynicism LD! I had much the same thoughts earlier this week when Rosicky announced that he it wouldn't be long before he is back. I could imagine an announcement at the end of the month that 'Rosicky is back in training' at the same time as the window closes without Arshavin. Eboue is a very good player - most of the time - and poor at other times. But he is just the sort of versatile player that every squad needs and a couple of notches above similar players in other squads.

"Eboue is a very good player - most of the time - and poor at other times." I think that you have that around the wrong way; he would be OK as a stand-in RB as mentioned above, but totally out of his depth as an attacking winger!

No I don't think I have it the wrong way around at all. He has more decent games than poor ones. He isn't too composed in the final third but has picked up a goal and a couple of assists in the PL this season. He is creating a reasonable number of goal attempts too. He also intercepts the ball pretty well - statistically amongst the best in the team. Compare him with players like Park Ji- Sung and James Milner for example and he comes out pretty well. He does have some poor games but there aren't many in the squad who haven't.

Eboue is a good squad player and the best thing about it is that he knows that. So having him is a good thing and if Bac is out he is a great cover for the position. He can cross the ball as good as Clichy (not a compliment at all, just a comparison) and can provide cover for a couple of other positions: RM, LB, CM. The reason why he's bad sometimes is because he lacks confidence and/or skill, not because he isn't giving 100%.

I refer to Noam Chomsky who memorably said, "if you're not cynical, it's because you're not paying attention."

Half decent right back who can cover for Sagna, not good enough for midfield. Couple of assists and one goal when he's been playing there most of the season, suppose it's no worse than Hleb. If there's one person over the Arsenal that can't afford to wrangle for a new contract, it's Eboue.

Amos, wouldn't you rather someone had a few good games than some decent ones??
