When Kolo netted in the 38th minute away to West Brom this month he set a new club record for the number of different scorers in a season. Arshavin`s goal against Blackburn has extended that record even further to 20 different scorers in all competitions.
The previous record of 18 had first been set in 2002/3 season and matched on 3 other occasions in 2004/5, 2005/6 and 2006/7 - all in the Wenger era.
The full list of scorers so far this season are:
Diaby, Fabregas, Toure, Nasri, Eduardo, Gallas, van Persie, Vela, Walcott, Denilson, Ramsey, Song, Silvestre, Wilshere, Clichy, Arshavin, Adebayor, Bendtner, Eboue, Simpson
We may go even further if Sagna or Djouro can get on the scoresheet but maybe if Rosicky makes it back he`ll stand the greater chance of adding to the total. It`s a minor record of course but in the 104 completed seasons of Arsenal Football Club it is something to acknowledge in a season of frustration so far.
What does it tell us about the season though? Is it that we play an expansive game where any player can score? Or is that we have struggled to find a settled formula or pattern of play and this record just reflects an extended injury list and a search for a consistent balance and team selection?
