'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bitter Brown Belittles Efforts Of Unlucky Hull ...

After a controversial FA Cup quarter final at Ashburton Grove, Hull City manager unleashed a rabid rant aimed at practically every person involved with Arsenal Football Club after his side slumped to a 2-1 defeat.

Former club captain, William Gallas scored a late winner against Hull from an offside position but replays showed (or should as say one replay, as most angles where inconclusive) that Johan Djourou did indeed get a touch to the ball which eventually found it's way to Gallas. Unlucky indeed, but Hull City Gaffer Phil Brown let rip at match officials, Arsene Wenger and Arsenal fans for, apparently, cheating the Tigers out of a place in the semi finals.

"I can`t use that word I`m afraid — but that`s the case. I`m glad you said that word . . . thank you. We lost the game unfairly. But I didn`t use the word cheat, you did.' ranted Brown

'It`s very hard to take. The game was turned on its head when the referee succumbed to local pressure. The referee bowed to pressure from the crowd and from Arsène Wenger. It`s an absolute disgrace, to tell you the truth. We`ve not been beaten by Arsenal, who are fourth in the Premier League, we`ve been beaten by the linesman. It`s disgraceful."

The Tigers gaffer also slated Arsenal fans for booing his players for time wasting after only 15 minutes. What's worse? Booing for time wasting after only 15 minutes, or time wasting after only 15 minutes? Arsenal fans paid their money to watch 90 minutes of football, not the the 60 dished out by Hull.

Brown then turned his attentions to current Arsenal captain, claiming he'd spat at the feet of City assistant manager Brian Horton.

'Fàbregas spat at our assistant manager," Brown claimed. "I was there, I witnessed it, he spat at my assistant manager down the tunnel. That`s their club captain. Hopefully he`s proud of himself. He spat at his feet. My club captain wouldn`t do that and I`m not bothered if he apologises. For Arsenal`s club captain to spit at my assistant shows you what this club is all about."

Weirdly enough, this accusation that Cesc spat at Horton's feet in the players tunnel came shortly after Brown claimed live on Setanta that Fabregas spat in Horton's face on the pitch.

Fabregas strenuously denies the allegations, "I absolutely and categorically deny I spat at anyone and I cannot understand why Hull are making these accusations against me.'

I can't believe you would claim to see something with your own eyes and claim two different versions of it. I guess that sort of blatant dishonesty is what HIS club is all about...

Cesc on arsenal.com: "I categorically deny that I spat at anybody after the match. I have never done this in my whole career on the pitch." I saw Ces spit at my assistant I saw it whether it hit him in the face or on his clothes or at his feet it does not matter I saw him spit. There was no reason at all for the Arsenal skipper to spit at my assistant, nothing was said'. Those were his own words. He is a liar a useless piece of crap.

Justice for all their bull*****! What a great way to beat an absolute sham of a manager and a poxy football team! Offside? Yes please. Next time we play them I want Adebayor to bulldose their fullback, headbut the keeper and then pick the ball up and throw it into the net, all done while offside! Now that would be a wonderful way to beat them. KUNTS!

If you manage 6 shots all game only 2 on target and concede almost 70% of possession playing 60% of the game in your own half then you can't really claim bad luck as the reason for your defeat. Brown's disappointment is not that we got away with it - it is that his flukey early goal wasn't enough for his team to. If the ref did 'succumb to pressure' from the crowd then at least the Gooner support did their job for the first time in an age.

It baffles me as to why Fabregas would do this after we WON a game? After a defeat we have been well known to kick off but after a win? Add to that the spit has moved from his face to his feet to his direction and from the pitch to the tunnel? Unless evidence is put forward to back up this claim I want the club to take this accusation as far as possible.

Wright8 - the difference between Arsenal timewasting and Hull time wasting is that Arsenal waste time with the ball on the pitch, thus giving Hull a fair shot at winning the ball back, Arsenal have no such opportunity when the ball is at the sixyard box for a minute at every goal kick.

If you watched Wenger leave the pitch at the end of the game there wasn't a refusal to shake Brown's hand - it wasn't there to shake. If Brown had offered it I am sure it would have been taken. The media makes far too much of such incidents. As for controversial decisions going against you Arsenal have been on the receiving end often enough not to feel contrite if one goes for us. Hull will have benefited themselves in the past I am sure. The bottom line is that the best team won. No-one need feel any sympathy because a well organised but workmanlike side, employing 'professional' tactics, lost. In reality they were 2nd best all night and Brown was wrong in saying we didn't beat them. We did - and they lost because they weren't good enough. It's that simple. Brown would have been better served admitting that reality.

The point is not whether the linesman/ref got it right with the Gallas goal. The point is whether it was humanly possible for the linesman/ref to get it right. The ball took a deflection off Djourou's head while Myhill was trying to aim a punch at the same spot. It's only clearer in slow-motion replay that it's Djourou's head. If the linesman got it wrong, why did Brown/Hull fans have to make it sound like it was a deliberate thing, rather than an honest mistake by the linesman? Yes Wenger did complain on the touchline, but WHY? It's amazing that something so so obvious to 50,000 people at the ground and millions in front of TV (time-wasting right from the 1st half) was completely ignored by Hull fans. It's a great great shame, as the Independent match report put it, that the Hull managed had chosen to focus on these points rather than crediting his own players for actually putting up a good performance. Luck went both ways - both teams scored a lucky goal (for different reasons), the ref got decisions wrong for/against both teams. Arsenal fans, as far as we see here, acknowledge this fact, why are we being called the "disgraceful" ones when the disgraceful one was Riley and the winning team were doing nothing but celebrating and the losing team were doing the whinging with unfair, unsubstantiated accusations? Oh yeah, it's our blind support eh?

It looked to every intent and purpose that the keeper got a touch to the ball and deflected it behind him. Most of those in the ground and watching in real time would have come to much the same conclusion as the linesman and ref. That slo-mo replays prove otherwise doesn't change anything and as Lou says it was no more fortunate than the flukey goal Barmby scored. The best team won. Credit Hull for their obduracy and 'professionalism' but blame the defeat on them being not quite good (or fortunate) enough to win.

The funny thing is that most of the replay angles still made it look like Djourou never got a touch, there was only one angle that showed he did get his head on it (coincidentally the only camera angle Setanta DIDN'T show Wenger in his post match interview).

Altogether now, "Browny's cracking up, he's cracking up, he's cracking up, he's cracking….." Allow me to posit a scenario, Hull win the game last night, Wenger gives an interview afterwards akin to Brown, what's the general reaction? Benitez criticises Ferguson and it's a "mad rant." Ferguson refuses to talk to Sly Sports after defeat to Liverpool…..nothing. Try and tell me our media aren't simple xenophobes. As for Brown, the interview shows a man cracking under the pressure, some inward analysis would do him some good. Perhaps he should spend less time on the sunbed and more on the training ground.

And Setanta's commentary and coverage was just mediocre and so biased, it's pathetic. I mean - Steve McMananaman, John Hartson and Tim Sherwood?? Sherwood didn't have a clue what he was talking about - saying "oh Arsenal aren't taking the game seriously by not playing their rested players". The only players you could argue are fringe players are Gibbs and Vela!

A recent item from WSC entitled "Reality Check needed at Hull City: "Recently the Hull City manager has come to be referred to Phil 'Phil Brown' Brown to mark his unfortunate fondness for the third person singular. This first came to public notice when he decreed that a particular performance was not what he expected from a 'Phil Brown team'. The other sign that the positive coverage generated by Hull's fine early-season form, which took them up to third place in early October, had gone to Brown's head somewhat came when he gave his players a half-time dressing down on the pitch at Eastlands when they trailed 4-0. Some have also wondered who exactly Brown is talking to via his earpiece, given that he is always at pitchside rather than watching from the stands, and have ungraciously assumed that he is listening to a recording of himself reciting positive slogans." The rest of the piece makes for good reading, it ends with a good paragraph about Arsenal. It's here: http://www.wsc.co.uk/content/view/3018/38

So I get home last night to catch skysports' coverage of the game, only to be bombarded by Brown's rant and the sky reporters going crazy at yet another Arsenal controversey. How they love this. LET'S GET ONE THING STRAIGHT: the fault lies with that incompetent do-nothing idiot Mike Riley for failing to control the game. He let Hull get on with their miserable tactics and constant, obvious fouling throughout, that made it almost impossible to play the game. The pathetic tactic of blatant, EXTREME timewasting the moment they got their goal, so early in the game, is one of the worst pieces of gamesmanship I've seen on our home ground. How Brown can believe his was the better team shows his colossal delusion. It's obvious their early success and good press in their first season in the top flight has gone to his massive head. It's a pity, because until this game I had a lot of respect for Hull and wished them well. If it's true that AW never shakes Brown's hand, then I think that's poor form on AW's part (he shakes Allardyce's and Hughes' hands, even tho there's no love loss there, so what makes Brown worse than them). However, I can't believe Cesc would do such a disgraceful thing and I think this is a case of Brown being a massive sore loser. He may well have misinterpreted something or mistaken someone else for Cesc, who knows. Or he's just lying.

And one more thing: when Hull beat us on our home ground, our fans applauded their team off the pitch and applauded their fans. We gooners criticized our team's performance and credited Hull. AW said nothing critical of Hull. THAT'S BECAUSE THEY CAME TO OUR HOME GROUND AND PLAYED FOOTBALL. We can take losing if the opposition PLAYS FOOTBALL, something that Hull didn't do last night. I read somewhere that Brown talked to Fat Sam about how to defeat us before last night's game. That's the game plan they came up with: pathethic, obvious, desperate timewasting 13 minutes into the game. And rotational fouling of course. Hull deserve ZERO sympathy. And btw, when we were in the lead, we didn't timewaste, we kept trying to score.

I just listened to the 5 live interview too PO and its laughable. His reaction to the who saw it question says it all. I think hes been found out for the very limited manager that he is. And why oh why is he straight onto 5 live first thing this morning. Protest too much perhaps? The top managers dont deal with things like he's doing. Lets get Cesc back on the pitch and he can do his talking there.

He does look a bit like Maureenho in the picture though. Maybe he's trying to be as obnoxious as him!
