Wenger: Arshavin Was Four-kin' Brilliant

Arsenal gaffer, Arsene Wenger says his latest signing, Andrey Arshavin was outstanding on Merseyside as the fan favorite blasted four goals in a spectacular 4-4 at Anfield.

Despite a rather iffy performance from an injury riddled Arsenal team, the Gunners played out an astonishing 4-4 draw with the wily Russian netting all of the North Londoner's goals.

Double A seemed to be letting the game pass him by until a got on the score sheet after some neat passing from Cesc and Nasri, slamming the ball in off the underside of the bar (I love it when that happens). He then added a 2nd, 3rd and 4th, showcasing a whole host of techniques that went some way to showing why Wenger battled so hard for his signature on transfer deadline day.

Wenger has more than happy with his display. 'His performance was outstanding, He had a quiet first half but when he comes into the game he is always very dangerous. He has personality and is a winner.'

Le Prof was less happy with the overall outcome of the game however. Speaking with Sky Sports he said, 'The game was quality on both sides but you are only half happy when you concede four goals. We are bit less than half happy because we were 4-3 up with just a minute to go. The positive is that we have a long unbeaten run and this keeps that going, and another positive is that we have shown our quality. The negative is that three points would have been better.'

And the best Russian to have ever graced North London. ;) And remember how we discussed his best position? Doesn't it even matter where he plays - as long as he does? Nah.

We would've earned 3 points if not for the linesman who disallowed Bendtner's good goal - it seemed to me like everyone's on a straight line in replay. Please vote: which 4-4 game was better, Chelsea-Liverpool or Liverpool-Arsenal?

In a way I found I could enjoy the Chelsea – Liverpool game more, as, lets be honest its not enjoyable watching Liverpool dominate possession and batter us for the vast majority of the game. Arshavin couldn’t have made a more emphatic point to the manager as to why he should have been picked in the FA semi final.

How crappy was our defence heh? Even the always reliable Sagna had a terrible game. Seriously,we need to recall Senderos and get rid of Silvestre or just promote one of the youngsters e,g that Harvard Nord......., cant remember his name right now but I hear he is decent and more importantly he can improve. Tuesday april 29th 2009, another star is born.

That was Sagna's worst performance in an Arsenal shirt - but can't really blame him as he clearly hadn't fully recovered from the virus. While our defence was poor I expected it - I was most disappointed that our midfield again struggled to maintain possession ... particularly in the last few minutes when we were a goal up :(

He may be a penguin but hes better than Walnutt. Oh yes he is. Hes tore up the premiership this season hes our player of the season. And as for "pubplayerachenko" lol you have to admit 14 goals in 29games (many as sub) is by all accounts a good return when you consider hes had no rest for 14months and its your first season in a new foreign league. Hes far, far better than that sorry excuse you had as a lone striker tonight. But on Arshavin..ill give you that. We missed out colossal this time. Lets hope its not as bad as Gerry Francis turning down first option on Zinedine Zidane in 1997, or even Dennis Bergkamp who was a Spurs fan. Gutted!

Arshavin nearly scored more goals for this season than Hleb whole career for Arsenal! Too bad, he can't play for us in CL. The defense needs to be sorted out. Need Djourou back to partner Toure, never confident in old Silvestre or we will get knocked out in the CL.

Not sure how you allowed Torres' second goal! That was just a disaster but all the same great game. Very disappointed you conceded so late but you still managed to get FOUR goals without Dudu, Van Persie and Adebayor! Impressive stuff!

HuddersfieldYiddo, Lennon is not better than Walcott. When he played for England, he was terrible and don't say because the other players didn't pass to him. Walcott will be the RM for England. Oh yeah, he is. Say your little penguin is best player for you spuds this season is hardly an achievement. As for Pavlyuchenko, well, 6 of those goals where from that glorified teapot competition.

AA was Brilliant and to score four goals in a game is one thing, but four goals away from home, against a team going for the Prem Wow! iceman10 thanks for the "fastest Penguin in the world Aaron Lennon" LOL or what, I nearly dislocated my shoulders. But I must complain about Silvestre, how slow is he? and what with these pass backs instead of just kicking it out to row z? We could have won the game, if it wasn't for the lineman's incorrect flag when Bendtner scored! That said Rafa must be pulling his goatee out after his team's performance, they were at home, we played poorly, and we were without a few 1st Team players. I can't see them winning the Prem if they continueto leak goals.

I didn't see the part when Wenger threw the ball at Arbeloa (if that what really happens) after Liverpool equalized in stoppage time. Was it malicious? Did the ball hit him on the face?

Eh? And aw come on, some of you. We did well considering WE have had to play a game every 3 days inside the last 10, had most of our team out, were playing away at one of the hardest places to go and were playing against a near full strength squad who had a week's rest had more motivation to get the points than us AND still couldn't beat an Arsenal team unbeaten in the league since November! Great point I say. Let's focus on what's really important- 2 massive games against United.

HY only the deluded would say a player with 5 goals and 3 assists all season has ripped up the premiership. You can gloss over Pubplayermachenkos stats but Julio Baptista stats are better because he also made the Carling cup his favourite competition and we still shipped him out. Anyway if Lennon has ripped up the premiership this season what on earth has Arshavin done if he has more goals and more assists already than your best player/penguin?

I think we miss the much maligned Senderos who suffered from being forced into regular first team football at too young an age and of course at the hands of the infamous Drogba, however having recognised that fact we should also remember the many great games he played for us both in the PL and CL. I cannot see that Sylvestre is better than big Phil although I don't think he is nearly as bad as many bloggers say - he is after all only supposed to be third choice. I thought Nasri had a good game - he is very strong on the ball - as did Song who was better after Denilson went off because they seemed to get in each others way. The normally reliable Sagna suffered a bit but how fit was he after his illness? Gibbs I thought did very well but his inexperience showed a bit at times. Bendtner did the best he could playing a role he isn't really suited to and Theo caused 'pool a few problems and set up one of the goals. Four fantastic goals! All in all a very good effort and such a shame we conceded the 4th goal, but where the hell did 6 minutes of extra time come from?

lol Bestest and fastest penguin! For me that's not even worth discussing. Theo has scored against top top opponents for us in Europe and for England. What has penguin done? I appreciate the fact that he's improved this season but all young players kind of do, except Ryan Babel or Lucas Leiva maybe. To say he ripped PL teams was funny. Back on topic: some of AA's moves, his finishes and the way he punished every little defensive mistake reminded me of Eduardo. Yes I'm gutted he can't play for us in the CL yet but Edu can. :)

I think Nasri, Fabregas, Denilson, Gibbs, Silvestre & Bendtner all had below average games if i am honest. Silvestre took the prize though for absolute cr*p performance. We didnt keep any kind of possession, sloppy passes and in many ways are very lucky to come out with a draw. On the other hand i am dissapointed to have conceded so late on. Although it was a classic game a such, its also an advert for bad defending. I cant think of one goal last night that didnt have a mistake in the build up or poor positioning.

Well done guys and good look for the rest of the season. I feel very lucky to have been at the game and to witness a player of Arshavin's class is something I will never forget...can we have him?! The respect between the Liverpool and Arsenal fans at the start was also fantastic and the atmosphere was amazing! Any of you guys who were there will know what I mean

Didn't go last night someone else had my ticket, but wish i effin did! Said that too many times the last couple of seasons. The game had a 4-4 written all over it even when we did take the lead. Another thing... where the fck did Webb get 6 minutes from? Can someone clear that up?!

I like Gerrards commentary. We have the best striker in the world, we have one of the worlds greatest Keepers, we have one of the worlds greatest managers, not to mention greatest fans. I especially liked the best striker bit when talking of Torres. "I play with him day in and day out, trust me". Ok Stevie, if you say your team mate is the best then i believe you. Just like i believe you had nothing to do with attacking that bloke.

Dennis Bergkamp who was a Spurs fan. Gutted! HuddersfieldYiddo Bergkamp was NEVER a Spurs fan, he mentioned years ago he was Glen Hoddle fan, the player, never the club. A common misconseption. The reason you have been so poor in the league is because lennon is your best player. Says a lot doesn't it. By the way, Walcott has 8/9 goals this season, how many does Lennon? Different players, one is a striker, the other is a penguin.....

Look get off your red specs! Walcott is more of a striker, plays further forward and therefore gets more goals. Im a massive fan of Theo and anybody who scores a hatrick for england deserves his place! But now your saying Lennon hasnt had a good season. Look i get it im a Spurs fan so youve got to act like a complete blinkered moron on anything to do with us, but Lennon has been brilliant. He made 15m Bentley look a fool, won back his england place, is consistantly brilliant is our player of the season and has been nominated for young player of the year. The far superior in your eyes Walnutt will do something fanatstic then will spend 3 weeks been subbed or being on the bench due to an ineffective performance. People slate Lennons crossing, but Theos is worse. Hes so hit and miss its untrue. Hes still only an impact player, he has much to learn.

I would suggest Lennon is more his and miss infact more miss than anything else given his stats. Not exactly hard to make Bentley look like a fool is it? Lennon is decent but his end product is woeful, far worse than Walcotts also Walcott is a big game player, Lennon hasnt even played in a big game yet so cant be judged on Walcotts level.

Arsenal play 442 generally, Spurs play 442 generally both Lennon and Walcott play the right wing in that formation yet Walcott has 21 games and 7 goals, Lennon has 45 games and 5 goals, i cannot find the assist stats, but that stat is very telling straight away.
