Anelka - Chelsea Are PL Failures

If we are to go by the logic of former Arsenal striker, Nicolas Anelka, then Chelsea have been complete failures in the league in recent seasons, whilst the Gunners have been a success.

In a bizarre jab at the Gunners, Anelka claimed that the aims of Arsenal football club do not harbour ambitions of Premier League glory, but only of securing Champions League football, which apparently differs enormously from the ambitions of his own 'mega club'.

'Chelsea are a mega club composed of top players, within which you have to win every game because you are under massive pressure,' said the Frenchman

'You have to win week in, week out. It is different from at Arsenal. There is a context surrounding the club because of the chairman Mr Abramovich that makes people speak about Chelsea more than about Arsenal.'

'Arsenal are composed of young players, aiming for third or fourth place, but we do not really speak about them for the title.

So considering Mr Anelka's comments we can presume that Arsenal consistently hitting their marks whilst Chelsea, in recent seasons, have become complete failures? 'Massive pressure' getting to them?

'Chelsea are a mega club composed of top players, within which you have to win every game because you are under massive pressure,' said the Frenchman NO Nick-o-las, they are an average sized Premiership club with a mega wealthy backer, nothing more nothing less. TBH, the less this disloyal, greedy little gimp says the better. We saw his best years anyway and that was some time ago...9 clubs in 10 years tells the whole story.

He doesn't usually say much does he? Not hard to see why. Having spent around 800m over 5 years I guess that they should expect to be under 'massive' pressure to win every game - 800m of pressure at least. Not that Anelka feels under pressure to deliver full value to anyone other than himself.

lol 800 million? That's a little far fetched... and a medium sized club? A medium sized club that has finished above your big club for the last 4 (pending 5) seasons? A medium sized club that has won a trophy in the last 4 seasons where your massive club hasn't? I think it's a little incorrect to call us 'average sized'.

lol funny of you guys to be criticizing what he said. Is'nt that the truth? Arsene with his youth policy has almost forfeited his chance of winning the title. When the current group of youngsters mature and play as real strong unit, 2-3 of them will be sold because you guys wont pay what they want. So back you go to the youngsters. You guys were battling for 4th place, so get real.

Since when did you guys get so sensitive? Chelsea owes Abramovich 800 million or there about, which means it has taken 800 million to get where you are now. yes congratulations you have finished above us as currently you are the better team, that is not being disputed by anyone. 2 suggestions, grow a thicker skin for starters as clearly you have hurt feelings and secondly we are a bigger club due to history, stadium, finances etc etc etc they all count towards the size of a club, not just a couple of minutes on the clock face of footballing history! Imho there are 3 types of club big medium and small. if Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal are big clubs, Chelsea aren't there yet so i make them a medium sized club, that is currently. They may increase in size in the future, who's to say. That's the truth, I wasn't being patronising even if it sounded like that.

bluethrough - Since when did 4 years decide wether a club was big or not, before Vialli, we were winning trophies galore but thaty doesn't change wether we were considered large or not, it more than just instant gratification, somethign a lot of Chelsea's more "recent" fans have to realise.

Depends what you refer to as a big club and if you become a big club but short term success. Lyon have won 7 consecutive titles, but before that won nothing. Are they a big club? Prior to Abramovich Chelsea had won 1 title, 3 FA cups and 2 Uefa cups. Or do you base a big club by their fanbase and their ability to sell out. Certainly Arsenal, Liverpool & Man United sell out home and away, where as Chelsea have struggled to sell out home CL games. Infact i purchased a ticket for Chelsea-Arsenal in the Chelsea section when it went on general sale. If we are just going by todays success then Chelsea are a big club.

I'm absolutely certain he won't unfortunately. I just can't imagine he'll ever be the same player, I have to say I expected him to feature once or twice for the reserves so we could feign that there was some sell on value (that's basically what we did when we sold Lauren to Pompey). Chelsea aren't a big club, they could be in ten eyars or so, but now they are aspiring. The names Arsenal, Man Utd, Liverpoo carry a weight that Chelsea don't. Liverpool could go another five years without winning anything, but their name alone will pull in big players. Look at Torres, when he joined Liverpool were eighteen years without the title, yet he still had no compunction about joining. Arsenal have not won it for five and Arshavin still joined us. Will Chelsea have that pull if they don't win anything for a few years?

I think Chelsea and Arsenal fans can all agree on one thing, Anelka is a turd and the sooner he is flushed away the better. Chelsea can do so much better than that ingrate.....

And Citeh's pursuit of Kaka shows that money can only get you so far. Besides which, Roman isn't going to be paying those kind of sums anymore.

The term "big club" is so relative. Are Inter "bigger" than Milan even tho Inter have been more successful in recent seasons? To my mind, no, because Milan have more history and prestige (and a larger fanbase worldwide). Real Madrid have hardly been the powerhouses their history demands recently but I think they're a much bigger club in comparison to Chelsea--who've been in the last stages of the CL every season lately while Madrid haven't.

Arsenal have for a long time been the biggest club in London but I think Chelsea have caught up. But then again, Chelsea needed incredibly HUGE sums of money to catch up!

Anelka once again shows his class. Seriously though, Abramovich would kill to sign a player like Arshavin. With the exception of a few awesome players, Chelsea seem to have made a habit of signing 'former' big players, which is also a euphemism for 'has-beens' Didn't Anelka recently say that he would love to come and play for Arsenal again, but that he probably wasn't good enough to get in the squad now. Hmmmmm...these latest comments have got Peter Kenyon written all over them, which is a euphemism for... oh, this is a clean site....

Half of what we owe Abramovich has been written off.it isn`t like he`s a bank , that will force us to sell everything to pay him, since he`d lose money anyway.Alot of players show interest in joining Chelsea, alot of young players are huge fans of Drogba, or Terry, or Lampard, that`ll attract players. Real madrid and Juventus are the most sucessful clubs, but their history isn`t any greater than Barcelona`s. Lack of trophies doesn`t signify lack of history. We have been consistently sucessful for the last 13 years. I`m proud of that.

It hasn't been written off Kev., just converted into equity. Nothing like the same as writing it off. He still look to get it all back if he ever got bored and wanted out.

How on earth would he get it all back? He can't sell Stamford Bridge. If he got bored, someone would have to buy the club and pay what we owe him, this new owner would have to be pretty rich as well, which probably wouldn't change our status.

Any new owner might not be all that rich after settling up with Roman! It's difficult to imagine that he'll get his money back. Not while you're still making big losses and still need big investment to maintain your current level. Maybe that's the extra pressure Anelka was talking about.

Amos, as a site journo I'm dispointed. You must have heard that Mr R A has said he will personally give our team a 50m+ kitty of transfer funds in the summer. The reason why you don't have this kind of money is because you spent it on a stadium - and to be honest, I wish we'd do the same!

The reason we dont have this type of money HF7 is because we spend what we can afford and run our club in a sustainable way, unreliant on whether someone either fancies some new players, a yacht or a rare and valuable painting. What Anelka says is wrong, at the start of each season we go for the title because our club ethos and the way we play means we try to win every game. That we havent been good enough in recent seasons to reach our aims doesnt mean we should lower them especially as were still regularly coming quite close. leave that to the spuds and their annual pursuit of the Carling cup.
