van Persie Fit For Arsenal, Silvestre a Maybe

Robin van Persie is fit to face Man Utd in the massive clash at Ashburton Grove tomorrow night whilst Mikael Silvestre is in the squad but will be assessed tomorrow.

After assuring ourselves of Champions League football for another season on Saturday past, the huge match against Manchester United tomorrow will determine whether or not our seasons extends to the end of May or ends within 36 hours.

It's vital then that we have all our players fit, so it's great news to hear that Robin van Persie and Mikael Silvestre have made the squad for our biggest game since 2006.

"Robin van Persie is available and back in the squad, Mikael Silvestre is in the squad as well but he still has a little groin problem. We`ll assess that tomorrow.' Said the Arsenal gaffer.

"In a game like this, you want everybody available to give you an opportunity to make a decision."

"In a game like this, you want everybody available to give you an opportunity to make a decision." Hmm... I was hoping both Silvestre and Djourou would be available for Arsene to pick before the 1st leg, but I felt nervous when I saw it's Silvestre who got picked lol. Credit to him, he proved my worry was a bit premature. (Dare I say I wasn't the only one!) So yeah I'm all for options, but I'd still get nervous if I see Ade and/or Diaby starting lol. (Jinx jinx!)

I so happy that RvP will be fit to play, what a bonus, even having Silvestre in the squad, gives us choices.

I think I speak for the majority when I say, Mr. Wenger, 4-4-2, 4-4-2, 4-4-2 and 4-4 ******** 2 please.

Ditto to LD's plea!!! Lou: "So yeah I'm all for options, but I'd still get nervous if I see Ade and/or Diaby starting lol." If Diaby is put in the hole, I won't be so nervous, that's his natural position and he usually does very well there. If he's on the wing...I'll be mightily PO'd!! As for Ade...I keep hoping in his "next game" he'll shape up and fight like mad for his team like he used to. Surely the 2nd leg of a CL semifinal against the champions, at home, is the game to finally show us the Ade of old? He doesn't even have to score (tho that would be great), just fight and work hard and make the right decisions. And for the love of god, PLEASE don't break down our attacks by getting caught offside!

Amen to that Jaelle! 'The Ade of old' working hard for the team and staying onside in a 4-4-2, when I see that I'm afraid I'm gonna cry!!

I did not mind the team we played at OT, i thought the formation was pretty much perfect, but some of them just didn't perform or even look like they were trying. 442 tomorrow.

I actually thought my problem wasn't so much the 4-5-1 but the fact that Cesc, Diaby and Nasri were all playing in relatively unfamiliar roles. Hopefully with RvP available, we could go back to the proper 4-4-2 which suits Ade and the team a lot better. Btw am I the only one thinking maybe Eboue could start in LB (though Gibbs was rested against Pompey - such is his importance now)?

I also wonder what great insight Alan Hansen has to offer about this tie, or Tony Cascarino? lol

Nasri was very good in my opinion, and Fabregas should have played further up the pitch giving Adebayor more support. Wenger was just trying to combat Anderson and Fletcher and Nasri did that better than Cesc could have done (remember the 70 yard race between Anderson and Nasri which Samir came out on top and got the ball?) If we play 442 with Cesc in the middle, I am not bothered, but we need to have another striker or a proper attacking midfielder, Cesc seems to want to stay far too deep when it was not his job.

That's the thing Tomf, 'it was not his job' cos Cesc tended to play like he's still in his usual CM role. But my point was that it's a tough ask for Cesc to switch to a new, unfamiliar job facing ManU. Nasri/Cesc/Diaby aren't exactly interchangeable - Nasri could reasonably do all three (hole, CM, wing), Cesc's best in the proper CM spot, Diaby's good games came mostly in the hole. So it should have been Nasri-wing, Diaby-hole, Cesc-CM. But that's spilt milk. Let's look forward to seeing everyone excel in their own spot!

That is my point Lou, Cesc would not have coped with Anderson and Fletcher like Nasri did. We have seen Diaby and Nasri play in the hole ahead of Cesc many times before, but in this game, Nasri had to play there because of the players that Fergie put out.

Good news that RvP is fit. I hope he starts in a 4-4-2, though thats still a concern, as he had only one training session before the game and he's been out for a couple of weeks. I really hope Wenger starts with Djourou and Toure. I feel more relaxed that way. Massive massive game for the lads and they need to step up. The time to talk is over lads, lets see what you've got!
