Fabregas Fancies Alonso Link-up

Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas says he'd love to link up with fellow Spaniard, Xabi Alonso at club level and hopes that Gunners gaffer Arsene Wenger will seal the deal this summer.

The Gunners have lost a large number of high profile experienced players in recent seasons and Fabregas believes it's time to add some extra quality, and thinks Alonso would be the perfect partner.

'We have lost big players, but the boss knows what he is doing,' said Fabregas.

'The days of signing a new player aren't finished. We need someone in the middle to make competition and make a difference, plus give us a new dimension. I think that is all we need. The rest is perfect.'

'Xabi would be great. He's experienced and can score goals. I'm sure the boss is aware of that fact.'

After a couple of transfer windows trying to lure Alonso to North London I really can't see this one materialising, especially after Xabi had a blinding season as was arguably one of Liverpool's best players ....... not to mention the fact that Rafa has already said he doesn't want to sell.

Still, this time of year is always about dreaming eh Cesc?

I think this will depend much in Barry. If liverpool get Barry i can see us getting Alonso. If not we might get Barry. I dont think Liverpool would just let him leave unless they had a world class replacement in place first

You can take the boy out of Barcelona but you can't take the Barcelona out of the boy I suppose. Talking about other club's players grinds my gears somewhat. Jesus I hate close season, someone wake me up in August. *Hits snooze button, rolls over and snores like a champion*

Not as much as me. Being infront of a PC all day i probably look at the newsfeed 10 times a day. When you spread that over 10 weeks with news, reports, interviews changing every hour. Its easier said than done to not look at the feeds though...

the news feeds are doing my head in...problem is i'm hooked. dont know how to stop reading all the rubbish out there...its so silly speculating about Barry/Alonzo so early...only for them not to come in. it would be so good to tap into Wengers thoughts right now..who knows he may just be thinking of what wines to purchase for the

There is a big chance that'll happen but Rafa has said Alonso will not leave. And when Rafa says a player will not leave, that player does not leave!

Benitez has consistently denied there is a chance of Alonso moving on. He's just had arguably his best season for Liverpool. But in any case, why would the Scousers sell to Arsenal? There would be a queue of clubs offering more cash than Arsenal would.

Some statistics from Arsenal vision..quite interesting really.......... Appearances: Denilson (37), Alonso (33) Tackles Won: Denilson (103), Alonso (62) Tackles Lost: Denilson (28), Alonso (27) Goals Scored: Denilson (3), Alonso (3) Goals Assisted: Denilson (7), Alonso (4) Total/Accurate Passes: Denilson (2535/2204) 89%, Alonso (2482/2076) 83%

thats why i don't really see this happening number14. Alonso didn't really play the defensive/tackling role for pool this year (that was Mascherano). Don't get me wrong, Alonso is great at what he does... we just don't really need him. Unless of course Aresene is planning on playing a 433 the whole time next year.

I take it that Cesc feels Alonso would be a good partner for him in midfield because he knows him personally, and has played with him in the NT. I think Cesc has been wanting to duplicate the kind of bonding/understanding/communication that existed with his midfield teammates from last season, and has been disappointed that the same kind of bond hasn't developed this season with Denilson or Song. Perhaps he feels he can develop that with Alonso. So regardless of Denilson's achievements as compared to Alonso, maybe Cesc feels Alonso brings something else. (A lot of Denilson's passing was static, sideways and backwards). I'm really not sure what the best thing is for our midfield, whether to stick with the improving players we already have or to buy. What concerns me more is what AW plans to do with Cesc -- will he persist with this experiment in turning Cesc into a support striker? Tbh, given AW's many experiments throughout last season, I'm entirely mystified as to the shape of our team next season. For much of this season, it didn't even look like AW knew who his best XI were. I don't think I've ever seen AW experiment so much in one season with so many different players, formations and positions, esp. in midfield.

A good player but nothing more than an accomplished Denilson. I always thought we needed energy, drive, power and tackling in midfield, would Alonso (as good as he is) provide any of that?

No. Barry would probably be better. I personally would take yaya, but the chance of him coming now are slim now they have won the treble.

Barry is the obvious choice. Alonso would not be a good buy if I am honest. We would ship even more goals.

Cesc said the exact same thing last summer, so I wonder if this quote is simply rehashed. I dont like it when players talk like this, and we get annoyed when an Arsenal player is spoken of in this manner. In any case, Alonso stands a greate chance of moving to Madrid than anywhere else.

Ok. If we could have any 3 available players, or players who are likely to come to Arsenal, which 3 would you go for? I would say Villa to replace Adebayor, Valencia need the cash and he wants to play in the premiership. The money for Adebayor should mean we dont have to dip to much in to our own funds to get him. Zapata could be prized away from Udinese, he is a strong no nonsense centre back. Gareth Barry as he wants a new challenge, play CL football and he is down to 1 year left on his contract. 10 mil could be enough.

It does leave a bad taste in the mouth when one of our players says stuff like this, particularly when we have been subjected to so much of this subliminal tapping up ourselves. But Iíve reached the point where my principles are weary and where I cannot see the value of them, especially when they are beyond the appreciation of others. So watching and listening to individuals who bend the rules to gain an advantage (not just in the football world either), and seeing them succeed without any punitive consequences, I think Cesc is doing exactly the right thing. The example has been set so letís follow our leaders.

When we sell Ade, I'm not sure Villa is the man to replace him unless AW has severe misgivings about Eduardo ever coming back to his old self. I think we'd need to replace Ade with another target man and make said replacement a Plan B type player. Part of our problem this year has been that Ade did so well last year, that the target man became our Plan A. I'm not sure Villa offers anything van Persie and Eduardo don't. I think there are more pressing areas of concern.

Hm, I thought Barry wanted CL he goes to Man City. Ok, whatever. I'd like to see a hardman in midfield, an organizer and shouter, a guy with incredibly energy and who opponents hate. Cana's not a bad choice in that regard, just don't know if he could make it in England.

LG why don't we need Alonso? navydave - Creating chances and scoring goals is not our problem, stopping them is and much of that is to do with having unsuitable players in the deep defensive role or atleast not having a box to box type player. Alonso provides nothign of what we need and a lot of what we have already. Ok so it would be nice to have him, but you cannot play him alongside cesc in the middle of a 4 man midfield as that would leave the defence hideously exposed. Mascherano is the man doing that job at Liverpool and Alonso is the one creatign chances form the middle. We have Cesc for that mate. That's how I see it anyway. What about you fella?
