'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Arsenal Open Against Everton (a)

Fans of Premier League teams will get their first sniffter of next season's action today as the fixtures for the 09/10 season are officially announced.

The money grabbing fat cats at Premier League head quarters have once again ensured that we can't bring you the full fixture list, but we can bring you a little snippet along as well as pointing the footballing impaired in the right direct of the full fixture list over at Arsenal.com

The mighty Gunners start the coming season's campaign with an away day on the Mersey facing Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday August 15th. Arsenal drew 1-1 at Goodison last season with Robin van Persie smashing an impressive 90th minute equaliser past Tim Howard after Tim Cahill had given the Toffees the lead.

Arsenal will take on their North London 'rivals' at Ashburton Grove on Saturday 31st October. Football fans everywhere will be hoping for a match that will be equal in entertainment as last season's 4-4 draw, however Arsenal fans may hope for a slightly different result.

I can't bring you the date (check Arsenal.com for exact details) but the month of December will see probably the most hostile of match days (assuming Phil Brown is still in the job) when Hull City visit the new home of football. Controversy reigned in an FA Cup match last season leading to the orange idiot making up various lies about Arsenal Football Club, the worst of which was intended to soil the name of the young Arsenal captain.

You can view the full fixture list by clicking here.

All dates will be subject to change at the mercy of Sky Sports and Setanta.

massively tricky start- we'll know if we are in the race... or out of it, but October....

With Goodison and Old Trafford early on, we have to get new signings sorted and bedded in quickly. We will need to start well and those are two of the toughest fixtures we'll play alls eason. On a bright note, apart from Matchday 6 (assuming we qualify for the CL group stages), all of our CL games are followed by London fixtures.
Little Dutch
I was thinking the exact same thing as soon as I saw the fixtures LD. It would make very little sense to wait till the last minute to save a few extra quid, as that decision could cost us massively in the long run. We got lucky with AA gelling so quickly, but it rarely works that way!!
Rocky7
As a counter to that though DANNYT (not that I overly disagree) is to look at the last 12 games. That looks a decent run in.
Little Dutch
I am sure that Arsene is going to wrap up our transfers early this time - when is our pre-season training meant to start?
Gooner_Vin
Wow you're going to loose your opening game. Sweet.
Costa Rican Blue
Gulp - Look at the end of Jan/start of Feb ...... Villa, United, Chelsea and Liverpool all in a row. Someone must really hate us.
Rocky7
But look at the games that follow it. If we can be three or four points off the top after that lot, we're in with a very good chance indeed.
Little Dutch
Better to have a tough run to start with...we cant afford to be complacent as were we last season...bring em on
number14
We play United, Liverpool, and Chelsea in the space of ten days in the late parts of winter. That is absolutely bull.
gunnerkid107
But we also play those games when the Champions League is in hybernation, which is probably a good thing.
Little Dutch
There are some positives when you look at it that way. Also the Chelsea and United matches are at home. Overall decent schedule. Gooner_Vin, preseason starts in exactly a month today I believe
gunnerkid107
8 points behind the leaders with a game in hand by the end of the first month...oh well!
Orange Quadrant
when is the ACN?
TPowell
http://www.bsad.org/0506/reports/fixtures_letter.html This may be of interest to any eds out there. Vital or otherwise!
Little Dutch
TPowell, good point, ACN is when we play Villa, Liverpool, United and Chelski! But Adebayor will be gone by then which should soften the blow.
Little Dutch
Everton away imo is a good place to start, last season Everton were very good. Moyes is a manager who knows football, and sends out a team, which plays football. So imo going there early and getting a result, will be a Great starting platform for us. In the end we have to play every team twice during the season, and I would rather face tough opposition first up rather than a so called weaker team and suffer a shock defeat. Roll on 15th of August 2009!
hackneyval
The first three league games are all away, as the Bolton (home) game has to be moved due to the CL qualifier. If we can get 7 pts from that start we will mean business
bseymour
I apologise for the misinformation I've given above, the list I was given had the Pompey game omitted. Sorry.
