Gallas A Gunner For Another Year

Arsenal centre back, William Gallas says he won't be going anywhere this summer, but reveals there has been no extension talks as he enters the final year of his contract.

With the rumour mill now running at fill tilt, there was speculation that Gallas' former gaffer, Jose Mourinho was looking to take the veteran defender to Inter Milan, but as with all good Arsenal players, this rumour was quickly quashed.

Speaking with Sky Sports Gallas said, 'I am at Arsenal, my contract is still valid for a year, so I am an Arsenal player.'

'We have not talked about renewing the contract, but I am relaxed and looking forward to next season with Arsenal.'

Some Blur song explains my thoughts.

yippeee. the defence marshall stays. hope we can cash in on senderos and silvestre, bring in tasci and voila!

"Charmless Man", No Distance Left to Run? Im really glad he is staying. Forget about the St Andrews incident and his autobiography, he is still the best defender at Arsenal(Hopefully Vermalen is better).
paul_ownz
So now we can cross Melo & Benzema of our targets who of the other 147 players we have been linked to are we likely to get. p.s i also realise Benzema was never going to happen
paul_ownz
Paul, I think you should know by now that I am a big fan of Gallas, so "Charmless Man" would not be the song, but the words "Woo Hoo" come to mind :D
Tom14
Yay!

We should be able to get one more really good season from Billy before he reaches the knacker yard. Vermaelen is still young and can only learn from training alongside Gallas, I doubt he will have played with a defender as good as that before now. I'm very glad he is staying, it would be difficult for Vermaelen to come in and asked to be top boy at the back straight away, a season with Billy G should bleed him in quite nicely.

What does this mean for old Tubbzy though?
Tom14
I would be happy to offer him a 2 year extension on top.

Great news! Just curious about Kolo now.
jaelle
This is the first time I can remember Gallas speaking publicly since his injury.

True GK, and sometimes thats best.
Gun 'Em Down
Does that mean you'll be selling Toure to Man City then?
Sindbad
i hope Kolo stays. we can play him alongside Fab in the centre midfield. Kolo is a excellent footballer and im sure he can easily adapt to any given position. we should just get rid of Adebayaor & sign Samuel Etoo. he wud be perfect for us..
luckys_10
I would refrain from signing any player likely to be invoved in this years ACN, this season is just too important to be sending players away with the risk of them becoming "Toure-d"
iceman10
Toure in midfield? Will people ever tire of hearing arguments against it?
Tom14
ya but having someone like Etoo in the team for the later stages of the CL will be a huge positive. and anyway we have enough cover for that one month period if someone like Etoo is away for the ACN. and Tom i dun want to argue over that again, but i think Toure can easily fill the void left by Gilberto and Flamini. the guy is simply awesome in everything. if he gets a good pre-season under his belt this time, he'll be the same old Toure we've seen for years come the start of the season..
luckys_10
Kolo Toure does not have the stamina to play in midfield. Something to do with type 1/type 2? muscles, I think.
sunaadh
Good news! :)
GoonerLou
And his total inability to read the game.
Tom14
I'm quite happy, for Gallas to stay with us, even though he will be able to leave "on a free" next season 2010/11. We have been bang on about experience so we would be silly to get rid of him.
