24: Jack Follows Rambo's Lead

Only 24 hours after the announcement came that Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey had committed his future to the mighty Gunners, one of the most exciting prospects in English football has followed suit.

Arsenal Football Club today revealed that Gunners young midfielder, Jack Wilshere had signed a new long term deal with the club.

Arsène Wenger said: "It`s such great news that Jack has signed a new long-term contract. Jack made great progress last season, playing at Under-18s, Reserves and First Team level and we all witnessed what a great young talent he is. At still 17 years of age, the potential is huge for Jack and we`re all delighted that he has committed his long-term future to Arsenal Football Club."

Jack made his competitive debut for Arsenal in 4-0 victory away at Blackburn Rovers, he featured mostly in the Carling Cup but made a total of 9 first team appearances altogether, bagging himself a goal in the 6-0 demolishion of Sheffield United.

Wilshere was also instrumental Steve Bould's successful Youth Team FA Cup campaign.

This, along with the news of Ramsey's contract, is fabulous news. These two players are I believe going to form the core of our team in the not too distant future. The pieces are really falling into place. The arrival of Vermaelen, the commitment of Cesc and soon the departure of Adebeyor, with possibly one more addition over the summer make me very confident that we can mount a serious challenge next year. Utd have lost their two best players in Tevez and Ronaldo and have thus far replaced them with Valencia, who, while a decent player, will not be picking up Fifa player of the year anytime soon. Be patient my fellow gooners, the fruits of our youth policy are about to bloom. Doubters beware, the gunners are coming for you!

Excellent! Can't wait for the CC this season already, and hopefully we'll see Jack and Rambo making a few more appearances/sub appearances for the first team too. Just hope RVP puts pen to paper soon! I'll be happy then. I'll be able to sleep til Barnet.

From the layout of the Carling Cup sides last season it does look as though Ramsey and Wilshere are earmarked to be fulcrums of the side in the next five years or so. Wilshere signed pro forms on his 17th birthday, quite why they've been renegotiated so soon I've no idea. Perhaps with Wilshere and Ramsey, Gazidis has had a look at the particulars of the contract situations and seen some fault, given that he wasn't around when these two players were effectively signed up, AW was doing everything on that front and IG might well have sought to make the contracts a little more rigid/ rewarding?

I think most teams might have been looking at him. Infact it wouldn't surprise me, given Arsene's track record, if there isn't a whole host of clubs trying to get the kid on loan as we speak. I can't wait to see Wilshere progress .... easily the most exciting prospect I've seen in years.
