Wenger Offers Adebayor A Way Out

Arsene Wenger has sent a message to Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor clearing the way for the leggy front-man to leave the Gunners if he so wishes.

Adebayor was the subject matter of an epic 'will he won't he' transfer saga last summer, that culminated with the player remaining with Arsenal but endured a mediocre season at best.

After taking flak from Arsenal fans, his body language suggested that it wouldn't be much longer before he hung up his red and white shirt. And now Wenger has offered him the chance to walk away.

'If he does not want to stay, he will leave but I think that he will be still at Arsenal this season,' Said Le Boss.

Sad to see him fall from grace, but I was checking his stats for the 07/08 season - 129 shots, 73 on target and 30 goals. Don't really know if they are good or bad stats. in terms of goals, yes, but 1/4 shots to goal? His 08/09 ones are worse - 103 shots, 36 oin target, 10 goals. Oh dear... Chamakh's are better! lol

1/4 shots to goal is not too bad really. I would imagine most strikers will go for goal 3 or 4 times in a game and how many of those come out with 30 goals. What site do you check your stats on and can you do this for any player?
paul_ownz
That was in his good season Paul .. last season was 10 shots per goal!
Rocky7
True rocky. On the 2007/8 season Tom i found an article on the seasons stats. "Joleon Lescott, who this season recorded a phenomenal goals-to-shots ratio of 42.1%, way ahead of the Premier League's next best (who, as it happens, was also an Evertonian - Yakubu, with 28.3%). If Yakubu was second best with 28 percent then Adebayor would probably have been close to the top of shot/goal ratio with 23.3%.

Also i am in no way defending Adebayor as i would prefer to see him gone and replaced for the sake of team/fan spirit etc. But realistically with Benzema gone to real, Tevez to city, Villa prob to Barca, Dzeko remaining at Wolfsburg, Etoo out of reach the likely hood of finding a world class proven striker seems unlikely. The only chance would be for Wenger to find another gem.
paul_ownz
We already have that gem I believe. Eduardo can be massive for us, not the same kind of player as Adebayor, but he could be more prolific. I'd be more happy of an attacking line up of RvP and Eddie, with Nicky B and Vela getting in on the action.
Rocky7
Chamakh looks great on some video's, and he did win the league title last year, joint top scorer to boot. 25% shot to goal ratio!

http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/valencia If I'd known about this earlier, I might well have booked my holiday here this year!
Little Dutch
I was thinking that LD. The city was really nice when we came for the Villareal back, i would of enjoyed a 3 or 4 day trip but i have booked elsewhere.
paul_ownz
Yeah, I loved Valencia, especially because I'm a bit of a seafood fanatic. The Villarreal fans are absolutely top drawer and the Valencia ones are o.k. too. Still, I'll have to make do with my holiday in Guernsey/ wherever the hell we play our qualifier (probably Glasgow).

I’m happy for Adebayor to stay. He isn’t the hot property this summer as he was the last mainly due to his lacklustre season. I’m sure he’s going to join the dots up and realise that if he wants his big transfer he’s going to have to work hard to put himself back into the shop window. Do a “Flamini” if you will. He should have a corking season with us as a result.
Sir Henry
Yeah Henry that's becoming more and more my way of thinking - really dislike the bloke though, but he can be so effective and gives us such a different option when attacking than the subtle yet deadly Eduardo (who i fear for re injuries) - but, as you say, he's gotta pull his finger out.
shewore
Oh Valencia, yeah lovely city, lovely football if you're lucky. Also you never know if you'll ever get another chance to go to the Mestalla before it gets knocked down. (When's that again btw? Aren't they supposed to move to the Nou Mestalla this summer? Oops.. lol) So go for it Gooners!
GoonerLou
Anywhere, except Chelsea. Got that Ade?
JT_daniel
LOL! Just about to write those exact word JT, when I saw you got there first! Anyway, like my VitalChelsea counterpart says, NOT TO CHELSEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
