From Vital England:
Keiran Gibbs is someone that I am convinced is going to be the long-term England left back, and I had thought that he 'might' just manage to creep into the world cup squad before the season began, although with him not getting that much football for Arsenal these thoughts changed - at least for the world cup next summer!
I think that Gael Clichy has picked up an injury that will keep him out for a few weeks so this 'should' give him a chance to show what he can do again, so maybe a call-up in time for South Africa is not yet beyond him?
The U21 international has told sky sports that he might have these thoughts 'somewhere' in his mind but simply playing as much for Arsenal as he can and concentrating on this club form is his priority at the moment: 'it's in my mind somewhere, but we've a long season ahead yet. Hopefully if I can get some more good games under my belt this season then there might be a chance.
'But at the moment I'm just concentrating on the club and what we can do to win trophies. I'm still looking to take my chance when I get it, and I'm happy enough with the way things are going.'
The guy seem to have a very level head on his young shoulders as he acknowledges that he 'does not deserve' a call-up at the moment as he has 'nowhere near the experience that a lot of the players do' and knows that he still has 'a great deal to prove yet' and would rather get this because he 'deserves it', although surely that would be the case anyway if he was called-up, right?
It would not come if not warranted...
