Alex Song Signs Contract Extension

It's contract signing season at Arsenal, and Alex Song is the latest player to join in the fun.

With news that Eduardo da Silva has committed pen to paper, and that Arsene Wenger is also hopeful of tying down Rosicky and Gallas to new contracts in the coming weeks, it's no great surprise that there are more contract talks in the offing.

Alex Song is arguably one of the most improved players in the league this season, and has become an integral cog in the Arsenal machine, so it's good to hear that the Cameroonian (is that a word?) has committed his future to the Gunners on that back of, at least in my opinion, a man of the match performance against Standard Liege in the Champions League group stage match that saw us qualify for the knock out stages as group winners.

Let's hope that Alex continues his improvements and goes on to become one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe.

Great news, indeed. Shows the Manager is looking at the club's future and tying down the key players (into it). To think most fan blogs were howling for a "world class" DM, during the last window and at the start of the season. So much for that clamour; Song is, arguably, in the top 3, today, on recent performances.

What a pleasure it's been to watch this young man develop and what a pleasure it is to formerly stick two digital fingers up at every last **** that decided to boo him on his Premiership debut. ***** you very much.
Little Dutch
Probably the first name on the team sheet. Happy for him and us.
Sajit
A sign of the tremendous progress that Song has made, and a vindication of the faith Wenger placed in him. Now, if only the same happens to Diaby, we're all set.
prits
Great news indeed....shows that the manager is doing his best to avoid spending any money.........Oh, as usual!
mutters
If you had any grip on current contract law mutters, you'd know how important it is to tie players down on contracts as much as possible nowadays. But being a Chelsea fan, I rather doubt you fully understand the ending to Ocean's Eleven, so asking you to realise the intricacies of contract law is rather like asking a bear to ***** in a toilet.

Whats happened Rocky? Surely the headline was Song Billongs at Arsenal?! Massive thumbs up to Young Song I never saw him making it with us but the improvement he has shown over the last year has been tremendous and he has made that improvement under intense pressure.
iceman10
Agreed - let's hope these years of development for players pays off with trophies.
shewore
people still underestimate him, he is with cesc and RVP our best players so far
Gooner SA
I can't believe that prat collymore was calling him our weak link a few weeks back, why the hell has this idiot been given his own radio show? And more puzzling is why the hell did I tune in??
Dberg
Damn it Iceman .... I was pondering for ages how to get some cheeky word play in there .... never thought of that one.
Rocky7
I think he's been one of our players of the season so far, if not the player.

Great work to extend his contract, but also its great that Song has shown his loyalty to his manager and club. He hasn't forgotten who helped him go from a young player who looked average at best, to one who is suddenly one of the top midfielders in the league. He's going to get better, too - his improvement in the last 12 months has been phenomenal, particularly in his passing and dribbling ability.

his development has truly been remarkable. from fringe player a couple of seasons ago to an established 1st teamer today. the departure of gilberto has provided him with the opportunity, but he's done the rest (ie hard work and mental strength). the same could be said of denilson too following the departure of flamini. diaby has a lot to learn from song and denilson. he too is able to make similar strides in his game. i dont think its a question of if, but when, diaby will rise to the level of the current squad. arsene certainly believes that, thus the opportunities given to diaby.
supersof
Very good! He's only getting better. And prits ...***** Diaby :)

Great news; I've always been a fan and can't really understand why he was treated so badly in the past, so it's great to see him rise above the doubters. One thing that sits uneasily with me is the unwavering insistence by Wenger that he is destined to be a CB. I can't seem to mentally accept him as our full-time Gilberto replacement when the impression is that he is perpetually 'filling in'. Surely that CB/muscle type saga has died a death now though?
