Wenger Claims Gallas Could Miss Chelsea Clash

Arsene Wenger says that former Chelsea defender, William Gallas is a 'major doubt' for the top of the table clash with his old club at Ashburton Grove this Sunday.

The French defender suffered a rather tasty looking swollen eye after he clashed heads with team mate Andrei Arshavin, as the Gunners won their Champions League group with a 2-0 victory over Standard Liege in mid week.

Gallas' eye puffed up immediately and he was barely able to see, he briefly returned to the action but was replaced at half time.

Wenger confirmed he may miss that match. 'There is a big question mark about him at the moment, I cannot say that William Gallas will play, unfortunately. The ankle should be alright but the eye is still very, very, very swollen.'

'He wears contact lenses and at the moment he would not get them in. We hope on Sunday it will be better. He is not comfortable but I am optimistic because we still have three days.'

If he doesn't play it would be a huge loss to us, he and Vermaelen have formed a formidable partnership this season and we need to be on the top of our game to emerge victorious in this most vital of football matches.

He'll play, I bet my left ballbag on it.
Little Dutch
Which is why I put the word "claims" in the title .... lol
Rocky7
Hey, wait ..... you have a left and right ball bag? Cool.
Rocky7
I always keep enough in reserve. Let's hope Arsene does the same with his squad.......
Little Dutch
Who do we think the front 3 are going to be? Assuming he plays a midfield of Fab, Song & Denilson and the defense picks itself(silvestre instead of traore). Who out of Eduardo, Vela, Walcott, Nasri, Ros, Arshavin. I think Eduardo and Arshavin are defs with maybe Nasri???
paul_ownz
The assistant referee sounds quite tough. Patrick Keane...hmm
paul_ownz
Rosicky i reckon, need as many leaderish players out there as poss. Think the main question will be who'll lead the line.
shewore
A 1 eyed Willy is better than Silvestre. We might have to hook him up to Phil Brown style headest and direct him round the pitch "left billy, Right Billy, Slide tackle, up, sprint, slight left"
iceman10
I'd say Tommy Gunn has to play. Not only is he brilliant going forward, slick and precise ... but he can tackle too ... and that's something we're going to need.
Rocky7
gallas will play,never in doubt.
springy
This game cannot come sooner for me I'm sick to death of people writing us off because of van persie's injury.
DBerg
bring it on - we're ready guys and gals!
Merlin
I fully expect him to play

A bit off topic - but surely there's no place for such drivel in a club's official website? http://www.chelseafc.com/page/TalkingPoints/0,,10268~47290,00.html A ***** poor attempt to rile us up. And perhaps the funniest part was calling Citeh moneybags. ROFL.
Sajit
Sajit, Chelsea's official website is notorious for being the PL's most classless and most unprofessional club site. That's the same website that's published personal insults against Domenech (doesn't matter if he's a jackass, a professional club website has no business descending to that kind of stuff), Wenger and some really cheap shots against Arsenal FC -- stuff you just never see on other official sites, certainly not Arsenal. It's like some low rent fan blog.

As far as I'm aware, everything written was factually accurate. The problem seems to be that you don't like to read the truth. A common failing, especially here. Tough.
Squiddy
Agree with Iceman - a one-eyed Gallas over an egg-headed Silvestre any day of the week. The handsfree thing Phil Brown style was a good idea too. Or we can simply stick a pair of glasses firmly onto his face? Well he couldn't look stranger than Petr Cech anyway.
GoonerLou
Tough indeed Squiddy, to talk about things like class.
GoonerLou
Typical of a chav not to understand the difference between class/professionalism and factual accuracy. It's a fact that Raymond Domenech is a ridiculous, awful manager but you'll never see the Arsenal website insult him personally the way your site did -- and Wenger has good reason to insult him, he and Domenech are barely on speaking terms. Go to the Arsenal website and check out what it says about Chelsea -- you'll never see the cheap shots you regularly see on your club site about Arsenal.

I noticed on that page that one of the menu buttons is labelled, "We Have History." I'm not usually given to quoting Thatcher, but what was it she said, "Being a leader is like being a lady, if you have to say you are one, then you are not." The article left out a multitude of facts as well, like the fact that Chelsea have lost two of their six league away games conceding seven goals, whilst Arsenal are unbeaten at home in all competitions. And to call Wenger unprofessional? This was the same columnist that titled one of his articles, "Shut it Thuram and Domenech." What about Mourinho lying about referees talking to opposing managers? I suppose that was the height of professionalism? Typical Chav site for a typical Chav club.
Little Dutch
gallas will play i bet.
leeimp95
Hmmm. It seems like everything said on the Chelsea website was an understatement. Like I said, the truth hurts. Especially when it's as true as that.
