Senderos To Move On In The New Year

Senderos To Move On In The New Year

BREAKING NEWS: Phillipe Senderos has shocked the footballing world after admitting he will seek a move away from Arsenal in the new year's transfer window.

Is there anyone here who couldn't see that coming ... Arsene Wenger's optician perhaps, but to the rest of us it was bleedin' obvious.

Senderos is looking to secure some regular action ahead of next summer's world cup, and I think it's been made apparently obvious to him that he won't be getting it at Arsenal.

'I have held a meeting with Arsene Wenger and I hope the door has been opened for me to leave Arsenal in January,' said Big Phil

'I need to play regularly if I am to make the 2010 World Cup with Switzerland. At the moment I do not have this opportunity and I must now consider my options.'

Whilst Senderos might not have been the most talented footballer ever to grace the game, he's had to endure some torturous moments in an Arsenal shirt and he's done so without once complaining and with a smile on his face (well, more of a gormless look really).

His attitude and commitment is to be commended and I for one wish him well.

There's a very good footballer still to come out a Big Phil's frame. In many ways he's very Upson like, talented but with a suspicion that he doesn't have the pschological resilience to get over his mistakes in the way that Adams and others have been able to - or should that be allowed to? Leaves us a bit short in January though if Song is at the ACN. Just Silvestre as back up to Gallas and Vermaelen then.

I think the youth policy we have at arsenal falls short with central defenders, the only way to be at the top top level as a defender is to be ***** to begin with and learn from mistakes, and correct them, im pretty sure when gallas needs replacing it wont be by djourou, we will buy someone in, vermaelen is young i know, but he has to be the exception

Senderos' days at Arsenal were numbered from the start. I wonder what stopped him from going to Everton. Very untypical of Wenger, coz he always thinks of the players' career (sometime before Arsenal), and lets them go at the right time. Delayed it with Senderos. I feel that Senderos could have gone onto become a regular starter, but Wenger lost confidence in him last season before he sent him on loan. There was no way back for him after that.

All the best to Phil. I only hope that Arsene puts a buy back clause or a sell on clause for him because I ahve not doubt whatsoever that he will one day become a very very good defender.

I am genuinely sorry to see him go, I really believe there is an excellent defender to be found in Senderos. I do think England is the wrong league for him. I sincerely hope he goes onto better things and makes the world take notice of his excellent abilities in another league, hopefully a big one like Spain or Italy. He's still only 25, he's got time.

another player sadly mis managed by Wenger, you think about all the chances and patience he has given and had with the likes of Diaby, Walcott,Toure,Adebayor,Song etc. One wonders why he lost faith in Phil. I wish him best of luck and I hope it doesnt come back to bite us AGAIN. Au revoir Phillipe!

I think Amos has it right here, Senderos has performed at the highest level- ten consecutive clean sheets in the CL, played four WC games for Switzerland in which they didn't concede, at the back end of 04-05 he went through ten consecutive appearances without seeing us concede a goal. Unfortunately, his mistakes haunt him and I think the Liverpool CL game was the clincher. I'd compare him to Alex Manninger. The reason I have always been so positive about Bendtner succeeding is that, when he misses a chance, he wants the ball again straight away, he wants another chance. If Senderos had that quality I've no doubt he'd be termed a world class centre half.

I also think Senderos deserves more playing time. His mistakes happened to be glaring because of the high-profile occasions. He's also an intelligent guy all round, so I was actually a bit surprised that he took quite a while to gain his confidence back or to some he never did. Perhaps he needs that little bit more toughness in his head to stay strong and keep performing after making costly mistakes. In this respect I have to again applaud young Gibbs. I wish Big Phil all the best and I honestly think he'll become a good defender in a less pacy league as Jaelle said.

Agree with general opinion here on Senderos, genuinely think he will develop into a good quality centre back given the right opportunity. Defenders improve with age and many defenders recognised as being amongst the world's best had their problems in their early days, for example many thought that Rio Ferdinand's concentration levels at West Ham could hold him back. Best of luck Big Phil if you do move on in January.

Not a round that really saw any upsets with the majority of those expected into the quarter-finals making it - arguably West Ham's win against Chelsea was the only one.
