Fab-ulous start...
Cracking start. Takes the pressue off completely. Now let's get another before half time and have a stress free game for once.
yeah well there goes the "no pressure"
I thought that's a 50-50... :( But the Verminator's so determined to put it right. Now fingers crossed for Cesc.
So frustrating not to be able to watch the game!
Is it me or is Walcott an absolute waste of space ??? Dribbles into the nearest defender every time, cant control the ball, cannot pass, cannot cross. He is just not good enough to play pub footy.
Maybe Arsene isnt blind he subbed him!
I can't pretend to know the answer to the Walcot conundrum, but the man has clearly regressed.
For those of you who still argue that Aluminium is steel, take off your damn blinkers!
Are we as bad as the radio commentary is saying?? Is Almunia playing crap again??
Almunia is a disgrace. I 6 year old keeper would have collected that cross for the disallowed goal. And I dont think Fletcher was offside from the replay. And Almunia's clearances are terrible. Get Vito back in the goal.
Almunia is up for another bout of the flu
We need a moment of brilliance from Arshavin or Eduardo or Nasri now!!
Gooner_Vin, lets just say that we would have been better off with Wenger in goal. And thats no exageration.
Well Vin, I've been one of those sitting on the fence on Almunia, sort of giving him the benefit of the doubt. But this performance warrants benching, period.
Honestly the players are not getting stuck in here. These games are where titles are won and lost. You can see Eduardo has been messed up in England - he is either worried about having his legs broken or being called a diver and has lost the focus on his game.
its just arsenal tonight... great result to get us back in the race, and then we drop 2 points we MUST have got.... its just so ******** typical... im afraid we just aint good enough
Eduardo looks so un-sharp. Not entirely his fault i guess
Just when you wanted Arsenal to push on and really give a solid performance and result, we flatter to deceive again...
well done arsenal... chuck it away again
I hate the English media for killing Eduardo just after he fought his way back to fitness and scoring at the time. I honestly do. So ******** unfair.
Can someone please tell me how Diaby can play for Arsenal yet cannot head the ball?
******** useless.. ***** off arsenal ****s
The great result of the weekend undone by a limpish performance.
It's 5:40am here and I literally can't sleep, my brain's full of images of Almunia's scary moments and Theo running into deadends and Cesc walking off and Burnley's crosses into the box. Can't sleep.
I'm so ******** embarassed at these fragile players. They have just beaten Liverpool, yet when they conced one goal, they play with no confidence whatsoever. I thought Burnley were absolute *****e today, and we somehow managed to be even worse. Horrible.
It was a dead certainty that Almunia would be blamed for only drawing away at Burnley. Reality is that Burnley have a pretty decent home record and a win there isn't given for anyone. It's a game we could have won but Walcott either works or he doesn't. He can see why he migght work but when he doesn't the rest of the team have to carry him. He contributes nothing to defense or midfield.
Typical, typical Arsenal. This week has absolutely summed up what it is to be a gooner. Frustration beyond belief.
Clearly, I'm no footballing expert but I genuinely think we should try 4-4-2 with Arshavin playing off Eduardo as the front 2 whilst RVP is out. Something about this 4-3-3 that doesn't seem like Arsenal.
Problem is that it's only 4-3-2 most of the time Walcott is playing.
Walcott is a decent finisher, so if he really as to play then I think he should play up front. The only way we're going to get anything out of him is we can get him through on goal with only the keeper to beat. He is very very one dimensional out wide. Very easy to read and even easier to defend against.
Good away point with our 2 main men out (Fabregas and RVP) could be a valuable point come may.
I'm not so sure that Theo will be any less easy to read up front - especially on his own. It's just a ball over the top against a decently organised defence. I wouldn't say Theo is a one-trick merchant but there are too many in his bag. Might be worth a little perspective and credit to Burnley though - 18 of their 19 points have come at home - mostly against teams in the top half of the table. If their away from matched their home form they would be firmly up in the top four.
* aren't too many...
Yeah credit to Burnley too, I thought the applause for Eagles and Fletcher when they came off was especially well deserved. But despite that we should have won the game. We couldn't break through Burnley's diligent defence with one man to carry in attack and without the two best attacking players in our team in the second half. Let's hope Cesc is okay. Gallas was feeling something in his back towards the end. Sigh, we need Den back for Diaby. And how about Carlos for Theo?
Nuff respect Iceman, but whilst I am not going to join the hysterical bunch of doomsday grovers, nothing in that performance suggests that we are genuine title contenders. Manure has rarely played well this season, but they find a way to grind out the results because they are mentally strong, the carling cup kids lost at Burnley last season, but they were clearly the better team and lost mostly to inexperience, this lot were out-fought, out-thought, and simply caved in and hid where they should have stood up to be counted. The single point feels like a loss, and the most painful part is that they ended up looking far better than us because they showed more desire. We are still good enough for top 4, but the painful truth is that we are not in the title race. Tonight proves that, and no amount of blind optimism will change that reality unless something drastic happens and really fast at that.
Why is it that everytime we drop points it must be because we were out-thought and out fought? It's a footballing cliche every bit as tiresome as the parrot and moon brigade and not a conclusion of any rational analysis. The reality is that we created more and better chances and had more possession while the home side created little despite their effort and needed a penalty to score. Burnley played well - no question of that but differing expectations will always flatter the level of their performance as much as it undermines ours.
As soon as the final whistle blew at Anflied it was obvious that we weren't going to win tonight. Our players seem to need unique sources of motivation for each and every game. I know Burnley is a tough place to go but if we were serious about winning the league we would've searched for the second goal as though it was still 0-0. I know its a cliche but that's the mentality that our players have to get into their heads, and so far it doesn't seem like they have. I have serious concerns about Almunia, Walcott and Eduardo, the latter especially, because he's clearly talented, he just doesn't suit the system we play, especially away from home at places like Burnley. I've personally never liked Walcott as a player, mainly because he just doesn't know how to involve himself in a game and link up play or hold the ball up, but his youth and reputation are such that dealing with his poor performances will be tricky. Almunia is a very fixable problem, so hopefully Arsene will take action sooner rather than later.
seems like some of the players out there have no belief in themselves, a world class striker and a goal keeper in Jan would be good but highly unlikely
My frustration would be that we left Burnley off the hook when we were 1-0 up, they were there for the taking and we let themoff. The second half was a real battle abd we stood up to every challenge and matched them for effort, but just couldn't break them down, period. Almunia's kicking was terrible but seriously, I know he's scapegoat of the month at the moment, but what else did he do wrong? Burnley fought for absolutely everything tonight and we fought them back but couldn't get through. Overall, not a bad point in my book but frustrated we didn't put them to the sword early in the game when they were rocking.
