Agent - 'Merida Is Only Talking To Arsenal'

Fran Merida's agent has confirmed that the young Spaniard has not signed a deal with Atletico Madrid and indeed the only club they are currently talking to is Arsenal.

Reports had emerged that Fran had signed a five year deal with La Liga side Atletico and would move on a free transfer in the summer, however the player's agent, Joseba Diaz maintains that talks are ongoing at Arsenal and that there has been no agreement with any other club.

'We haven't signed anything with Atletico because, simply, the only club with whom we are negotiating is Arsenal,' said Diaz.

'The absolute priority of the lad is to renew with them. I repeat: There has been no agreement with anybody. Only if we don't renew with Arsenal will it be the moment to talk with other clubs. There's been interest from four clubs in Spain but I've not sat down to negotiate with any of them.'

'Arsenal have the priority. Moreover, as always, they are acting like gentlemen.'

Atletico have however publicly acknowledged their interest in the player labelling him 'One of the brightest talents in Europe'.

We kinda should have guessed it was all crap considering the story came from AS

This story originally broke in October after Merida was offered a new contract in September which he had verbally agreed. If a deal was to be done with another club it could be done quite easily without any fuss or any news breaking in the media. I wonder whether this is just Merida's agent who is also agent of Ignasi Miguel another young Spanish youth player. He was also once Cesc's agent but it appears Cesc dumped him late in 2008 after becoming angry with him about a number of leaked transfer stories leaked to the Spanish press.

Fkn transfer periods. So much ********* i swear, it's like a whole bunch of fkn women starting controling the game.

Uh, Fui, it's MEN who control football, it's YOUR fault, not ours. Don't insult or blame us for any of the c-r-a-p oneupmanship games you guys indulge in in this crazy sport. We certainly couldn't do any worse.

One things for sure the offside rule would likely be done away with :)

I think that was an allusion to gossiping / bitching? Meh.

Merida is a classy player - I'm sure he can push on under Wenger.
Nellup
he was very poor vs west ham tbh.......

You guys need to rethink your opinions one-second when you were led to believe he was leaving you, you were saying he was never going to make it and that the he wouldnt push on through Diaby, Ramsey, Fabregas, Song, Wilshere and etc. He's a great prospect who in my opinion has alot more talent than Diaby and Song.

The comment isn't aimed at all of you just the minority.

So, as a comment, it's a minority opinion about a minority opinion but we need to re-think our opinions? Well that didn't take us very far did it! He is a great prospect - whether he'll get an early chance with what's in front of him is still an issue.
