Agent - 'Merida Is Only Talking To Arsenal'

Fran Merida's agent has confirmed that the young Spaniard has not signed a deal with Atletico Madrid and indeed the only club they are currently talking to is Arsenal.

Reports had emerged that Fran had signed a five year deal with La Liga side Atletico and would move on a free transfer in the summer, however the player's agent, Joseba Diaz maintains that talks are ongoing at Arsenal and that there has been no agreement with any other club.

'We haven't signed anything with Atletico because, simply, the only club with whom we are negotiating is Arsenal,' said Diaz.

'The absolute priority of the lad is to renew with them. I repeat: There has been no agreement with anybody. Only if we don't renew with Arsenal will it be the moment to talk with other clubs. There's been interest from four clubs in Spain but I've not sat down to negotiate with any of them.'

'Arsenal have the priority. Moreover, as always, they are acting like gentlemen.'

Atletico have however publicly acknowledged their interest in the player labelling him 'One of the brightest talents in Europe'.
