Arsenal - Wenger In The Market For A Striker

Arsene Wenger says he is in the market for a striker as the Gunners enter one of the most important periods of football for a long time.

The Arsenal gaffer is on the look out for a new frontman after long term injuries to van Persie, Bendtner and Walcott.

Wenger however admits that he's not even close to bringing someone in.

"Yes, I am still thinking about trying to bring someone in this month, but I must confess I am not very close to doing anything at this moment,' said Wenger.

'I am looking at buying strikers because when we started the season we were playing with Van Persie and Bendtner up front. But at the moment we don't have either of them, while we are also without Walcott.'

'So we are missing those three as we enter a very important period of the season when every point is crucial and can make the difference at the end of a season. But right now I am not close because I am yet to find a player who can convince me that he is better than what we have already.'

If only we had a 20+ a season striker such as Defoe. Eduardo is chapionship at best. Can feel a defeat coming today
Eduardo is championship at best? what a ridiculous opinion.

Assuming of course you meant Cocal Cola Championship, if you meant championship winning (regarding the premier league), then I do not belive that is so ridiculous.

Thats the spirit, lets be negative. I hope if Wenger cant find a striker its because no one will sell or their is nothing available that will be better than what we have. I would not want it to be down to saving a few mil. Better to pay a bit over the odds and get someone we need rather than be stubborn sticking to your principles and missing out on success. I still think he should of paid bordeaux what they wanted as he is obviously intesrested in Chamakh. I bet we will miss out on him all together just because wenger wanted him for free
adamted is clearly a poorly disguised spuddie
Thing is Chamakh may be free but now half a dozen other clubs have been alerted and are on his case. We will end up paying more just to offer him a good package. It's really a false economy and I don't believe its the game Wenger is playing. Hopefully he already has someone on his radar but is keeping it close to his chest. To say to us that he had 2 strikers at the start of the season and now he doesn't have them any more is stating the bleedin obvious. It would imply that he really has no plan B for these situations which would beggar the question just what are we paying all these scouts to do? Both Van Persie and Walcott are not known for their robustness and Eduardo was coming back from a career threatening injury. Which leaves just Bendtner and Vela. These two are not world class strikers....not yet anyway.

He may have a point though with someone like Defoe youd be deadly. Van Persie is that man, hes awesome but when hes injured (which is usually about 40% of every season) you look toothless and cant say im impressed with Eduardo although he to be fair he had a terrible injury.
and yet we're still scoring more than spuds, HY, even though they have the great defoe...
Tom posted this in the forum, it seems about right for a Wenger signing.
Only a spud would be silly enough to claim Defoe would be the answer to our prayers off the back of a toothless draw against Hull themselves and then claim that we look toothless without RvP despite scoring a hatful of goals since he was injured. They are a truly unique species of supporters - totally devoid of any logic.
Defoe would be a truly miserable signing.
If Wenger is being honest, and he may not be telling all of the truth, and if he really doesn't have anyone lined up now then he is unlikely to find someone in the next 2 weeks. It can only depend on someone else making the next move and giving him an option he doesn't currently have. I'm thinking this is a transfer that is less, rather than more, likely to happen.
See i came in peace and meant a player of Defoes type, a goalscorer and you would be unstoppable.........but you just presumed i meant Defoe and the natural response to slag everything Spurs again. You set of arrogant cretins. Tom14 probably still thinks Walcotts better than Lennon. And as for you Anus, i dont think ive ever heard you say anything sensible. Devoid of any logic? You should hear yourself sometimes honest to god. And if all your after is tit for tat mockery, happily i can honestly say...that Defoe "munks" all over Eduardo in terms of everything. And hes not even that good! Whos top scorer in the league?
Arsenal are top scorers in the league currently HY so what's your point? I am sorry that your ever so helpful advice didn't receive the grateful thanks you feel it warranted. The fact that it included the silly observation that we are toothless without RvP rather put it in the category of pointless gibberish when considered logically though. If you can come up with some point worth acknowledging then I'll make sure to thank you properly - if only to avoid ruffling your ever so sensitive chickens feathers again. :)
Wynn Mills: Considering we have scored the most goals in the Premiership without an out an out striker for the best part of the season, I think wenger's "plan B" is working quite well! Hudd yidd: To say we look gummy without RVP at the moment, is like saying Tom Huddlestone has a size 28inch waist. We are one win away from going top of the table....just think where we could be when we get our teeth back hey....
P.S As Raffa Benitez would say...."FACT: Until Lennon scores a magnificent hatrick for England in a hostile, away make or break game, then yes Walcott will ALWAYS be better then Lennon." And "FACT: in answer to your question, Wayne Rooney is top scorer in the league." :o)
I still think we need a great striker that will score us plenty of goals, i dont think Eduardo is up to the job anymore, he's not been as good since his injury i dont think.
