'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lineups: Spurs v. Arsenal

With no due respect to the Carling Cup semi-finals, this is the biggest North London Derby since April '06 when the two sides met at Arsenal Stadium. Henry kept our Champions League qualification hopes alive with seven minutes to go. Tonight a draw isn't good enough for either side.

Arsenal Starting XI: Almunia, Sagna, Campbell, Vermaelen, Clichy, Denilson, Diaby, Nasri, Rosicky, Eboue, Bendtner

Arsenal Bench: Fabianski, Silvestre, Merida, Eastmond, Walcott, Eduardo, van Persie

Tottenham Starting XI: Gomes, Assou-Ekotto, King, Dawson, Bale, Rose, Huddlestone, Kaboul, Modric, Defoe, Pavlyuchenko

Tottenham Bench: Crouch, Bentley, Alnwick, Livermore, Walker, Gudjohnsen, Bassong

Mark Clattenburg will be the head official for tonight's clash. I hope neither set of supporters will have reason to feel aggrieved by the ref come 10 o'clock.

The match will be on Sky Sports 1 in England and ESPN2 in the States.

Enjoy the match Gooners! Up the Arse!

it promises to be a good match!
Al Billy
If somebody marks Modric good, then there is nobody else in that Tottenham lineup that I fear.
gunnerkid107
End of the road for Vela!
Sajit
Goal line clearance from Assou Ekotto..cmon you gunners!
Deltaforce
Verminator is injured, Silvestre to sub him. And we're 1-0 down. That's it, I can't watch anymore.
jaelle
Cant say anything but what a goal from Rose. Absolute ***** luck for us with vermaelen's injury. Silvestre is on for him. Dont know why Sagna didnt shift to CB with Eboue at RB. Cant see much hope with our current CB pair am sorry to say.
Deltaforce
Eh? Not watching. Whaton earth is going on here. Don't like the sound of it!
julieloveshenry4ever
Bendtner really must work on his left foot. Just missed a sitter with it. Good pass from Rosicky.
Deltaforce
Are we REALLY losing this match? Seriously?
julieloveshenry4ever
Julie, we are hogging possession and playing decently but went down to a good goal from long range from Rose - on his PL debut no less. The goal was against the run of play. We are playing well without great penetration and absolutely no one is taking a shot when given space.
Deltaforce
yes, julie, so far, we are.
jaelle
Oh that's it. I CAN'T take any more disappointment, I just can't!!!!!
julieloveshenry4ever
Of all teams. Are they MAD?!! I haven't been so angry since the Bolton game. And we have NO Cesc!!!! I knew this would happen. I KNEW it!
julieloveshenry4ever
Me too, I just had a bad feeling about this game.
jaelle
Well, lets think of it like this, we *****ed with them for a decade. It had to end sometime..probably the best that it ends when we dont ahve a chance with the league.. .not with Chelseas luck!
Sajit
I can't believe it. How can they dare do this to the fans. If they can't beat spuds we might as well give up.
julieloveshenry4ever
Isn't there any good news at all??? Where's Rocky?
julieloveshenry4ever
Diaby and Bendtner have seriously under performed in the 1st half.
Deltaforce
Never in all my years have I seen a side so dominant in a NLD ..... and we're f***ing losing. It's almost unbearable. Another piece of extreme mediocre goalkeeping that led to the goal too ... instead of punch or catching the ball without any pressure on him, he simply let the ball hit his fist and it looped up in the air ..... of course you can't take anything away from such a magnificent strike, but he shouldn't have had the opportunity to take the shot. If Spurs hold on to this then fair play to them, they had 120 punishing minutes at Wembley at the weekend and we've been running them ragged all game, if they have the energy to hold on to their led then what can you do?
Rocky7
Our shooting has been awful and there are never any of our players in the spurs penalty box when attack. We're doing our usual thing of dominating possession without threatening to score. :(
bowiecokemirror
Didnt they learn from Barca that you need to make possesion count?
Sajit
We need a little more in the attacking area, but other than that it's been pretty comfortable. Beautiful goal, but fecking Almunia.
gunnerkid107
Going in at half time at 0-0 with us battering them for 45 minutes I would have been certain of getting 3 maybe 4 goals, they look knackered, but with something to hold onto we're going to struggle. I'm sure the gameplan would have been pass them to death and wear them out, but a team in the led has tons more energy than one on the back foot. FFS.
Rocky7
I'll never forgive them if they lose this game, I WON'T. Get Robin on NOW; I don't care HOW LONG he's been out. He's the only one who knows where the goal is. Oh and sack Almunia in the summer. My blood pressure is shooting through the roof.
julieloveshenry4ever
I think we've been doing well tbh. It's just that little bit of finishing that we need to do better with. Keep the faith guys!
GoonerLou
Almunia lost his balance when clearing the corner when he shouldn't have. Still was an outstanding goal by Rose - he gave Almunia no time by not allowing his clearance to land.
Deltaforce
I'd throw Eduardo on and take Eboue off and go 4-4-2. Bendtner is too isolated at the moment. We need someone else helping him out and getting into good scoring positions. We might as well go for it, we've got nothing left to play for if we don't win this game.
bowiecokemirror
If Rosicky just stayed on his feet, he and Bendtner were both CLEAR through. Minimal contact, which was correctly ruled a yellow, but for *****s sake Tomas, be a man and don't go down so easily.
gunnerkid107
Time for the hairdryer treatment Arsene. I am deadly serious.
julieloveshenry4ever
need walcott on for eboue asap.. other than eboue and bendtner the other guys are givin it all they hv
McGooner
Stop being such a drama queen Julie.
elbondo
No movement up top at all which is causing Diaby to hang on to the ball for ages.
iceman10
Walcott on at about 60 minutes .... his pace might one of his only assests, but pace is something they will be *****ting themselves about right now. We're always 1-0 in the NLD, so I'm not worried just yet.
Rocky7
n stop blaming almunia.. if not for him, we'd be down 2-0 from modric effort
McGooner
Elbondo, haven't you been around long enough to know my match-day ritual? ;-)
julieloveshenry4ever
bowie, "our shooting"?? None existent I would say. Not even the Suds fans could have guessed their goal would come from a debutant. Fair play to them so far. There is still another half to come and I think Sol could end up as man of the match, really. Look at it this way, if we can fashion out a win with a 69 (sum of their ages) years old CB pairing, the joke will be on the Spuddies. We need a little more penetration and that's where Theo comes in.
Naijagunner
if there is a god, i sure do hope he is an arsenal fan
McGooner
Why did Almunia not catch it???! It was a bread and butter catch for any half decent keeper! But then when it comes back in, it pretty much goes straight over him too. Out quickly to smother Modric's attempt which was good, but still. No one seems to want to shoot FFS. Can guarantee you that if Rose tried that again 100 times he wouldn't score.
itsup4grabsnow
I agree with McGooner, I don't blame Almunia for that goal, he's had a good half. Kicking has been ok and some good quick distribution at times. I think we need to throw another striker on soon, either RvP or Eduardo for Eboue. I'm not sure Walcott will be that effective as Spurs are defending quite deep.
bowiecokemirror
Sol is one of those kind of players who could still be a pretty damn good player in his 40s. Intelligence never fades.
gunnerkid107
bowiecokemirror, you are right about Bendtner's relative isolation. I'd hope AW throws on Walcott instead of Eboue and not Eduardo who is unforunately not in good nick.
Deltaforce
45 minutes to play, several great options from the bench, we've run them ragged so far so expect their legs to start giving out around 60- no problem. And yes julie I know your schtick- hope it works today!
elbondo
Guess what Bentley is coming on as a sub.
Deltaforce
Bentley on, or in other words, spuds down to ten men.
elbondo
I would rather have Rosicky out for Theo; now, they bring on Bentley, maybe expecting to win free kicks. We need to be patient and spread the game to tire them out faster, then go all guns blazing. No panic, yet.
Naijagunner
Useless c***s.
Rocky7
I'm not the most pessemistic fan but that's it, done and dusted, no title challenge and probably our first loss to Spurs in 10 years. Fan-f***ing-tastic.
Rocky7
Out of nothing, it is 2-0! Poor marking by Silvestre, really and Eboue played Bale on. What was a defender doing in our box. Damn. I fear a rout now. we are shell shocked.
Naijagunner
What happened Rocky??!!!!
julieloveshenry4ever
Why, in all thats f***-ing holy, when we lose in big games are we always embarassed? It's never a tight game that could have gone either way .... we're always made to look like c***s and that *****ies me off.
Rocky7
Sucker punch am afraid. ***** defending from Silvestre and not good enough from Clichy. Now sp*rs have parked the bus and are looking to hit us on the counter. With out current lack of penetration its going to be a mountain to climb.
Deltaforce
Its a monkey off our back if you ask me!
Sajit
Our defense is all at sea; what is going on?...
Naijagunner
Night night folks. I don't know how Wenger dare look us in the face. I feel sick ;-(
julieloveshenry4ever
Sajit - I said the same thing the other day, it will be a relief. But if we're going to do it I'd rather we didn't look like a bunch of f***ing idiots at the same time.
Rocky7
They will be up for it, catching us on the break, that is.Speedy players against our slow defenders. What's wrong with Diaby? Can't pick the quick pass and play to Theo's strengths.
Naijagunner
Some half-time team talk. Thanks Arsenal. I wouldn't have minded if we lost the title because Chelsea maintained consistency. But to screw up this particular match. I can't bear it. The season has only 30 mins left. I feel sincerely sick.
julieloveshenry4ever
arggg.. for spurs to hv finished off our title hopes is absolutely gutting.. get ready for some heavy gloating guys.
McGooner
McGooner - I've been preparing for years .... and you know what, if we get back even half of what we've given we're in for a ***** time. lol
Rocky7
We knew it would happen one day. But for it to happen like this...jeezus.
jaelle
Utd and Chelsea get beaten in the CL, their next game in the league, they draw. We get beaten in the CL, we lose and made to look like pathetic clowns.
jaelle
Anohter DVD coming out guys... "the day we delayed St Totteringham day" by one gameweek.
Sajit
I'd be happy with a draw now- end of the road for us but would kill their CL dream as well.
elbondo
Bendtner misses by a whisker. RvP is now ready to come on. It is the 67th minute.
Deltaforce
I don't even have the strength to try my lucky charm. How could they??
julieloveshenry4ever
Come on RVP!! ...Can anyone tell me ...why is Diaby such DICK on the ball??
FuiKaka
*****, its refreshing to see RVP on the pitch.
FuiKaka
RvP has come on for Denilson..I cant understand why. Denilson was playing well and was acting as a shield for our back 4. This is a risky sub. Diaby who has been ineffective today could have been substituted.
Deltaforce
OMFG!!! Diaby does NOT deserve to be on the pitch anymore. I'm sick of seeing him just simply GIVE the ball on a silver platter to tottenham.
FuiKaka
I'm always a passionate fan, but rarely am I this ******** angry. We have only had one shot on target in the entire match, and that came off Sol Campbell's knee.
Rocky7
I'll put money on it right here that if we do lose, and that looks more than likely, that Chelsea will drop four points between now and then end of the season.
Rocky7
yeah but we have defended brilliantly so far... and your definalty missing fabregas who provides that killer ball
AudereEstFacere
wtf have these players been doing during their long break?
jaelle
That you have AEF, that you have.
Rocky7
True Rocky. We just haven't shown enough penetration upfront. But when our passing game doesn't work there has to be an alternative route and except Denilson, RvP and Cesc no one in our team seems to know how to shoot from medium - long range. We are looking very lightweight today - moving the ball from side to side with no real penetration.
Deltaforce
Guys, what are the odds that Theo will come out and say this was a lesson and that he will learn from this or some irritating ***** like that! That will make my day!
Sajit
Bottlers. Simple as that. Another season gone...
julieloveshenry4ever
Walcott and Almunia will have something to say that's for sure. They always do, and it gets right on my tits.
Rocky7
RvP shot!! Good save from Gomes. We have had lots of corners but Bendtner seems to be well marked today. We need more aerial reinforcements for sure in the summer.
Deltaforce
this must be the worse game I seen us play.
alwaysgunner
van Persie is about the only player on the pitch who can't kiss my arse.
Rocky7
Ooooooooohhhhhhhhh
Rocky7
"this must be the worse game I seen us play" -- and it just had to be against the Enemy.
jaelle
I just turned it on and see Rvp test Gomes twice and hit the crossbar i think
ajwb
NiK!!!!! Five minutes and stoppage time- no problem.
elbondo
RvP freekick saved. Sol goalbound header saved. Gomes is very very annoyingly in top form. And now Bendtner scores!!!
Deltaforce
2-1. Game on. If we get something out of this I will feel sorry for Spurs, I really will. lol
Rocky7
*****IN LOVE U NIKKKKY
ajwb
How we've been missing Robin!!!!
GoonerLou
OMG, 2-1!
jaelle
lol Rocky!
Sajit
Agree Deltaforce, we seem to have too many players who hang on to the ball for to long without being able to make an incisive pass or have a decent shot on goal.
bowiecokemirror
The greatest mystery in the world is how come no troller hasnt visited VA yet. Are you pressing the ban buttons, Rocky? :)
Sajit
If RvP was fit for the whole season we would have won the league, of that I am now certain.
Rocky7
Another RvP shot saved. We are finally responding.
Deltaforce
It's too frigging late.
julieloveshenry4ever
Lol Saj, no mate, they've actually been pretty decent this past year, though I susspect they will be full of the joys of spring in 5 minutes. I'll be off as soon as the final whistle goes.....lol
Rocky7
Please get one more, I'd be happy witha draw. Isn't there any good news yet??????
julieloveshenry4ever
nope
Sajit
FT - that's it.
jaelle
You know what I hate? We're giving Man City so much encouragement and motivation to face us in the next gane now.
GoonerLou
Lou, now that we are out of it, I think we will trash them :-)
Sajit
Silvestre has CB cost us tonight. I'm sorry to blamde individuals in a team game but I do wish Sagna had played CB instead when TV 5 had to go off. Sol Campbell can hold his head high as can RvP. They played like lions. Denilson was quite good as was Nasri but the rest of the team need to have a good look at themselves. Not good enough.
Deltaforce
spurs dont win NLD but when they do there probaly the bets in the world, :) XXX from a rose
123spurs
good performance, bad score.
fcdematthew
*best
123spurs
Spurs have chosen a time when it hurt Arsenal the most, to finally beat us in the league, after so long. Critically, it was interesting to see how effective RvP was when he came on. What a shift. Probably gave Gomez more trouble in the short time he played than all the other players, all night long. Diaby, Rosicky and Nasri didn't come to the party for me and when we needed them to stand up to be counted. Great game, though. Well, that's it for our season then.
Naijagunner
The match reminded me van p is absolutly different class. Everyone should remember we didn't have cesc, gallas, song, arshavin, and for most of the game verminator and van p
gunner24
Nah Rocky, had Robin been fit only HALF of the season, we would've been top by now.
GoonerLou
The only plus I can take from that game is that RVP looked like he hadnt missed a minute this season. Almunia as usual let me down.. feel how you want about him but I dont trust him between the sticks.. for every great save the man makes he does something equally suicidal. Diaby also had a shocker, he didnt seem interested at all. Nicky has put away a few important ones for us in recent weeks but i still do not feel he will ever be a prolific goal scorer.. I hope he proves me wrong. I could keep pointing fingers at players who didnt show up tonight but whats the point.. roll on next season and hopefully a few new faces will join us during the silly season..
Unwell
I really hope Spurs finish in the top four, If City finished there they would be able to attract higher calibre players and they could mount a serious title challenge next season, and lets face if Spurs do make the CL next season they wont get past the group stages. On a positive note RVP really did looked like he had never been away. That early wonder striker was the defining moment in the game as they could sit back and break on the counter. Another trophyless season for the gooners, I couldn't give a rats arse about the mantra really would you rather we didn't challenge for the title and didnt get past the group stages in CL and didn't qualify for CL and win the Carling Cup just so that we can say we won a trophy. The most important thing is that we have show a lot of progress and despite what the yids think they aren't no where near us.
gronedrone
gunner 24 we didnt have corluka kranny, woodgate sarge lennon, jenasrse
123spurs
I'm still not sure why Wenger put on Silvestre instead of Eastmond- surely beside an old head like Campbell his mobility and speed would have been more useful than whatever Silvestre brings to the table? Oh well, it had to happen some day, law of averages.
elbondo
123 spurs, with due respect none of the players you mentioned are fit to lace Fabregas's or Arshavin's boots. They are altogether different class.
Deltaforce
lennon is best winger in pl, sagra is DM an woodtgate is top defender when fit
123spurs
They are clearly not in fabregas and arshavins class but we still did not have our full strength team and thats the point.Who knows what would of happened! I dont get to do this often aginst you lot so you will have to excuse me hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha yid army
jako
Congrats to Spurs, they deserved it with a spirited performance. Both teams had key players missing so we can't use injuries as an excuse. I really hope Spurs get 4th ahead of Man City. We looked so much better with two strikers upfront, I doon't think Bendtner is good enought yet to play on his own upfront. RvP has the quality to be the lone striker however. Looks like Vela or Eduardo may move on in the summer if we bring in Chamakh. We probably need another centre back if Sol and Silvestre leave and probably another defensive midfielder.
bowiecokemirror
ye didnt have yer fulll strenght team and we didnt get over it an arsehavin can be hot an cold, its a squad game, lame excuse i ever heard
123spurs
With all due respect. 123Spurs, Yes you were missing 6 players, however Arshavin, Fabregas, Gallas, Song, Van Persie (for 6 months and 65mins) and then to lose Vermaelin early on are 6 World Class players. They make the difference in the big games, hell look how RVP caused chaos when he came on. Big up to Sol Campbell though, he was the only one who seemed to actually give a toss. Again defensive and goalkeeping errors let ourselves down again. I am absolutely gutted and feel really let down. I already have facebook messages/texts from Spud mates. Big up to Sol Campbell though, he was the only one who seemed to actually give a toss. Again defensive and goalkeeping errors let ourselves down again.
itsup4grabsnow
I'm so impressed with Sol and gutted i felt the need to say it twice in one post :S
itsup4grabsnow
I hate to think 'what if' but I was thinking maybe we could play Sagna in CB, Eboue RB, when the Verminator was injured. Surely he would've done better than Silvestre? Anyway, a defensive shake-up is in the cards this summer.
GoonerLou
injuries is part of the game not a valid excuse an song is not world class
123spurs
cameroon would disagree with that statement 123spurs. He is by far the most improved player in an Arsenal shirt this season and would most definately walk on to that spurs team given his current form!
Unwell
123spurs, dont worry its no excuse. Enjoy your victory. Song is better than Palacios.
Deltaforce
ill give u that one ...lol......i will enjoy the stick we have been gettin for years
123spurs
Sagna is not a central defender! He can't provide the positioning and physical presence that a centre back needs so it would have been dangerous playing him there.
gronedrone
i would prefer a 3 legged donkey in defence over silvestre... the second i saw his big clown head coming off the bench i knew comedy would follow...
Unwell
pity is was the spurs fans laughing tho..
Unwell
To be fair your boys never gave up,but Spurs were better across the park I think you would agree with a better manager lol.
Uskok
Yeah uskok, 'arry's record as manager says it all. AW is not fit to be on the same football pitch as him.
