Barca Voice Fake Ethics But Tapping Up Continues

As the media circus goes mental amidst rumours that Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has told Arsene Wenger that he wants to leave The Gunners, we are once again treated to a few moral pontificating sound-bytes from the Barcelona's Txiki Begiristian.

'It's great news that he wants to come here and I think that one day Cesc will have to come to Barca,' he told the club's official website.

'But what matters is Arsenal and what their decision is. They think he is a very important player for them. We have to respect that. At times the wishes of players do not come true because they are under contract.'

'That he says that he wants to come to Barca is a synonym that things are being done well here.

I don't know when but I have the impression that he is a Barca player and that he will enjoy it very much.'

'I wish it was as soon as possible. But we have to respect Arsenal's wishes and the contract he has.'

Considering that Cesc, Wenger and members of our board have consistently stated that we want him at the club for the foreseeable future, 'respecting our wishes' would constitute as pissing off once and for all and leaving us alone.

Stop hiding behind mock-ethics, pretending and appearing to be doing the right thing whilst all the time blatantly and publicly tapping up our finest asset.

Didn't realise until today that txiki is pronounced cheeky. So that's Cheeky Buggerystain...seems rather fitting giving their proclivity for attempting to shaft us season after season.
nikolaijns
"Cheeky Buggerystain" - Lol, nice!!
Rocky7
Well said Rocky. Barcelona are the perfect embodiment of that old adage "Beauty is only skin deep." All pretty football on the outside but ugly as sin underneath. Their behaviour of openly tapping up the player of another club and using all the forces of darkness of trying to get at him is quite despicable. Another tactic they have been using this past 24 hours is trying to put a wedge between Arsenal fans and their captain, trying to erode their hitherto rock solid trust in him by releasing statements of "he said this" and "he said that." I am trying very hard to stand up to this assault but it getting harder by the hour. Barcelona cannot be trusted to act with propriety, therefore it is time for Arsenal or Cesc himself to speak directly and tell us what is really going on.
julieloveshenry4ever
The only thing I like about Barcelona is their playing style, the rest of their club is grotesque.
Rocky7
Let's not get on our high horse fellas. We haven't always been whiter than white when it comes to aquireing players and 'declaring our interest!
navydave
What scum. I hate the way their league's two competitive teams just collect players like effing pokemon. I hope "280 million no trophies Real" actually give these****s a beating next season, then hopefully every other player will slow down on "dreaming" of playing for Barca and they won't treat Arsenal like a feeder club. In the opinion of this Chelsea fan, the very least Fabregas can do to thank Wenger and Arsenal, if he leaves, is to publically express vague interest in moving to Citeh so they instantly make an obscene bid which means you guys get a good price for him from Barca.
BlueBanes
Tell us summink we don't know bruv
shewore
Ethics? ETHICS?! These ********s dont know the meaning of the word. Its a foreign concept to them. Navydave, yes we are not whiter than white when it comes to our transfer dealings, but we are nowhere near as underhanded as these *****ers thats for sure.
True-Gooner-Blood
It's just a case of bigger dog eat dog! Barca/Real have done it to us/United/(name any club with a decent player here). We've done it to smaller clubs in the past. Ferguson is notorious for it. Am I happy about it..... NO! but it's just the nature of the beast. Barca are definately not as bad as Real.
navydave
I've become immune to it, it doesn't even bother me anymore. It's like having to deal with an obnoxious, yapping dog in the neighboring yard all the time, after awhile you tune it out.
jaelle
And sorry, Rocky, this story is not coming from Barca sources. Barca are REACTING to Cesc's own initiative, which Ballague and Hunter have reported on.
jaelle
hey guys, if fabregas does go it will be a big loss for arsenal and also the EPl. wonderful player, and seems like a nice person too. but look on the bright side, ars enal fans. at least you do not lose your best players to other epl clubs. this is something we need to learn from you. btw first time posting on vital ars enal here :)
hardcore_spurs
julie and rocky and the rest of you: this story is NOT being driven by Barca, it is being driven by CESC and his agent. Barca are merely reacting to Cesc's own initiative.
jaelle
Even if that is true Jaelle Barca are still fueling the fires. Just look at their quotes - "I don't know when but he will be a barca player and he will enjoy it" .... respecting our wishes my arse.
Rocky7
Agreed, Rocky, but I expect nothing less from them. It's what they do. It's part of their DNA. They don't know how to do otherwise. It's like expecting John Terry to be an honorable, decent human being. He just doesn't know how to do that.
jaelle
I don't trust anything coming out of Barcelona's hierarchy, and I doubt they are just reacting... politics aside, based on what we've heard, it's conceivable that Cesc is driving this after having his head turned... it'll be a very sad day if he goes now and it also exposes Wenger a bit - like Cesc saying "I'm grateful for what I learnt here but I need to play in a better team and now"... it hurts to say it, but in a way I can almost get my head around that... Whatever happens, I want us to come out of it fighting!
Andy-T
It may turn on the fact that Barca can't or won't pay Arsenal's price, and Cesc won't make any demands of the club because he has too much respect for AW and the club. arseblogger has a great post today on all this.
jaelle
I think it's a mixture of both, Cesc and Barca. The way Barca have conducted themselves, not just now, but throughout the seven years Cesc has been with us, has been disgusting. I understand perfectly the reasons why Cesc wants to leave, but there is a CORRECT way of doing things, and this is not the way. Yes, Cesc wants to join Barca and Barca want Cesc, but they have to overcome two very big obstacles before they jump into bed together. 1. Arsenal must AGREE to allow Cesc to leave, and 2. Barca must pay the transfer amount set by Arsenal. If Arsenal don't agree to sell him, or the transfer price cannot be agreed by both parties, then Cesc remains at Arsenal. SIMPLES.
Cockney Rich
30 million seems to be the reported fee that Barca are offering.. Tell them to feck off.
JT_daniel
It really is quite disgusting the way that a "proffessional" football club would pursue a player that is under contract this way. I hope that Arsenal really take them to the cleaners if they do end up selling fabregas to them.
khoder
True jaelle, though Arsene doesn't like to hang onto players whose heads are turned, which weakens our bargaining position a bit (to the tune of 5-10m in this case!) If Cesc has really asked to leave, then I think asking him to stay another year is not useful as we would be better off starting to ring changes now rather than delay for another year. That's being practical but on the other had I think: please stay a bit more as I would love to see him lift a trophy for us - something he deserves for his application alone! I really hope we resolve this one way or another very soon as I can't stand the mental toture!
Andy-T
Agreed Daniel. A mass underestimation of Cesc and his incredible. I would tell Barca just to ***** off just for being classless *****s. Settle for nothing less than 50 mil at least. They wont him so bad, they will pay. If they cant afford it or wont pay, then stop wasting our *****ing time!
True-Gooner-Blood
***incredible talent and skill****
True-Gooner-Blood
hes a little ******** anyway off wit him
glendalough yid
I think there's a decent chance that AW can convince Cesc to stay for at least 1 more season. Apparently Barca think they shouldn't have to pay too much because he was their player and they trained him, which is c-r-a-p. He's our player, we've developed him since he was 16, he's not the same player he was. CR, you said "I understand perfectly the reasons why Cesc wants to leave, but there is a CORRECT way of doing things, and this is not the way" - I agree re Barca but not Cesc. Apparently Cesc did the right thing: flew over personally to set up a private mtg with AW and talk things out. Ballague got the story. You can criticize Cesc and his agent for letting Ballague get hold of the story but they know it would've been impossible to keep the story secret, so they chose the one journo who's interviewed Cesc many times (Ballague supports Espanyol, btw, not Barca). Anyway, Cross, Henry Winter and other journos have said Arsenal are going to make it difficult for Barca and I can't see Cesc fighting back, he loves Arsenal too much. He might be convinced to stay 1 more season.
jaelle
jaelle - love your posts mate, you always see a side to things that I have overlooked. My comment regarding " a correct way to do things " etc, referred to some of the interviews that Cesc has given over the months and years. My argument with him was that he always finished his " I love Arsenal and I am happy there " sentences with " I will return to Barca one day, it is my dream ".
Cockney Rich
The way laporta talks about cesc you would think he gave birth to him.
Iceman10
Maybe he did, he's got a womans' name, whos to say he aint got the plumbing.
nikolaijns
"The way laporta talks about cesc you would think he gave birth to him" - exactly, you'd think that Cesc learned absolutely nothing with us, he came to us fully formed and ready to beat Milan in the CL, ffs!
jaelle
30 million? They can feck off. I wouldn't go to bed with Joan Laporta for that. 60 million and not one penny less. If you can't pay it tough. Here he stays to honour his contract.
julieloveshenry4ever
Great blog from gunnerblog.com today too.
jaelle
I would probably go to bed with Laporta for 500k
paul_ownz
I would for a pint of Tetleys and a packet of pork scratchings.
Rocky7
F**k farca. They are too damn greedy.
ACLamp
LOL. Oh dear- you guys are CHEAP!
julieloveshenry4ever
The grass is always greener isn't it? Cesc should have a chat with Matthieu and Alexander before leaving his captains position at a club that adores him.
gunnerpig
I am in bed with Laporta as I type. I refused to wear a Barca shirt throughout our ' liason '. In many ways, I feel like our fans and AW - well ' shafted '.
Cockney Rich
Is anyone here playing in the members 5 a side day tomorrow?
gunnerpig
Yes i am. The schedule looks like a rubbish format, as in minimal playing time and roll on/off subs.
paul_ownz
Yeah, seems like alot of games in a short space of time. What team are you on paul_ownz? I'm on team Van Persie.
gunnerpig
Which may i add they ask you to share the time fairly with strangers. I see problems their
paul_ownz
Is there a team Fabregas or have they pulled out?
nikolaijns
Ha ha! I must admit, I'm a little aprehensive about our team name and that we'll all be in the treatment room by the end of the first match!
gunnerpig
I am on team Walcott
paul_ownz
Which means we have a great future and full of promise but will fall down at the first hurdle
paul_ownz
Walcott eh? So only your subs will be any good!
gunnerpig
Sorry boys, but is there anyway the 5 -a-side stuff could possibly go on another thread ?
Cockney Rich
I hope we've got team Fabianski in our group.
gunnerpig
TGB , 30 mill is only for Fabregas' left leg.
Sajit
It's a light distraction from all this barca guff tho eh rich, think we've given those oily tw@nkers more than enough of our time and emotion!
nikolaijns
Fab is an amzing player and I would love to have him at Chelsea.....he would have been the true Lampard 2.0 for us. You are about to lose your best player and also a huge loss to EPL. The balance is with Spain now.
atomis
Fair comment nikolaijns. Is there a team Silvestre ???
Cockney Rich
Blimey. Didn't realise big brother was watching. Erm....Fabregas, Arsenal, Barcelona, stay, leave etc............
gunnerpig
Only if team Vermaelen don't show :)
nikolaijns
See Team Arshavin only has one player ;)
nikolaijns
Are you any good gunnerpig? I hope i am not in the same team as a load of poor players. I know its meant to be for the experience and a bit of fun, but i like to win. Saying that i have strained my hamstring and have not played on it for 3 weeks, i can still feel it so im hoping its ok tommorow.
paul_ownz
Not sure really. I play 5 a side but only with mates. Not in a league or anything. I'm a fast runner and the mates i play with say i've got the best shot but i've only got a good left foot. Useless with my right! I live in Cheshire so i've got a 3:30 start in the morning! Hoping the adrenaline will keep me awake! I'm the same as you, it's a bit of fun but i would like to have a decent team so that we can go as far as poss and maybe even get some medals!
gunnerpig
God Paul, that's post is like Cescs life in a microcosm
nikolaijns
Sajit go back and read my posts. I said 50 mil not 30. Even 50 mil is an absolute minimum. Squeeze every penny out of the ********s as we can...
True-Gooner-Blood
Ha ha niko. They do call me fabregas on my team. I have alot of love for team walcott, but i have team Eboue in my DNA
paul_ownz
All clubs tap up players, it is a fact of life. Some are more blatant than others, sometimes it is a club simply responding to the desires of a player. A quick comment here and there to unsettle a player is done by every club. Whoever is signed as a replacement, has probably been induced to leave in one manner or another. And the signing of established international David Villa for 34m has probably set the ball park fee for a player. Is he retained, becomes disillusioned and is value at half the price in 12 months time?
kernowboy71
and as for Fabregas it seems a bizarre move and you have to wonder if there is something else driving him towards this. He's a central figure at one of Europe's richest clubs, yet wants to move to a team where I find it very unlikely, on recent form, that it would be an easy task to dislodge Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets, all of whom are ahead of him both domestically as well as with the National team as well as youngsters like Gai Assulin coming through
kernowboy71
KB71 I think Iniesta will play on the left of Villa & Pedro. Fabregas would then play in the centre with Busquets & Xavi and they will sell Ibra & Toure.
paul_ownz
Biscuits is ********* though and if Fab does join, he will be dropped like a bad habit. I reckon they would play Xavi and Fab behind Iniesta and deploy Iniesta in a more attacking role. Or he could just move to the left and Fab partners Xavi in central mid.
True-Gooner-Blood
Its hard to call it tapping it really when pretty much at every opportunity Fabregas has said how much he loves Barca and wants to play for them at some point in his career. He has just come to the realisation that now is the time or he may miss out on his dream. His stock is high and he wants trophies something he was not getting at Arsenal.
CGan1
"Biscuits is ********* though" - Is that a joke??? Sorry, TGB, you are WAY off base!
jaelle
Yes but if you drop anyone from the Barca midfield to accomodate Cesc that man would be Biscuits. And I still think he is crap but thats just my opinion.
True-Gooner-Blood
More on Fab.. Looks like he definitely stirred the *****.. which is very very disappointing. Sol is qouted as saying " "Although a one-year contract has been offered, these things take some time to thrash out - and I imagine Arsene has quite a lot to deal with at the moment, particularly with Fabregas."
Sajit
Read that too, Sajit and got convinced this is real. Still think Arsene can keep him for next season, at the least. He can't go this way, surely.
Naijagunner
Fabregas is gone, lets hope we can get a decent replacement like Mesut Ozil or Yoann Gourcouff. I'd prefer us to sort out a replacement before we let him go but I don't think thats going to happen.
bowiecokemirror
Needless to say, this is just depressing news. I've been away from the UK in the US for work this week and when this first kicked off I didn't believe it. I now can't believe it's actually happening. The thought of Cesc leaving like this is difficult to take, I'm afraid it's a wound that won't go away easily and we could suffer the repurcussions in the next seasons as we transition yet again. Our only truly world-class players are Cesc and RvP in my opinion. We needed to add 3 more, not lose our best one, probably the finest midfielder of his generation. If the project wasn't over before, it most definitely will be if this happens.
Gooner_Vin
Absolute *********. Cesc is going nowhere THIS season.
julieloveshenry4ever
The grass is always greener isn't it? Cesc should have a chat with Matthieu and Alexander before leaving his captains position at a club that adores him". I would usually echo those sentiments, but Cesc knows Barcelona already, and is far too rational and talented to suffer the same consequences. Let's face it, we'll be the ones suffering.
ArsenalRob
Oh, and the grass IS greener in Barcelona, unfortunately.
ArsenalRob
AR, a player who kisses badges and talks about his heart is neither rational nor logical. If Cesc possessed either one of those two characteristics, he would stay put for now, improving even more under AW's tutelage, retaining captain's status, a guaranteed starting place and the continuing sky-high profile assured by the EPL's competitiveness. By June 2012, Iniesta and Xavi will be two years older and Cesc will be even more valuable to Barca as his stature and experience grows. Badge-kissing ought to be outlawed.
julieloveshenry4ever
Badge-kissing and talking from the heart are, in this case, rational - emotional as well - but none the less rational. He realises what the club has done for him and wants to thank those involved for the support. But there were times this season, especially at Stamford Bridge, when you could see that he knew he wasn't playing in a team of winners. He's not delusional. When you know you have to leave something you love, you do as much as you can to show your appreciation for what it's done for you, whilst in this case keeping your mouth shut about leaving - you don't want to cause a stir in the middle of the season. Unfortunately, some will interperet these actions retrospectively as being false. It must be tough. I don't think his leaving this summer is inevitable, but certainly it will be on his mind more than ever.
ArsenalRob
You can't blame him either. You could tell from his body language after the spankings against Man Utd and Chelsea at home (again) were really hurting him. Watching his teammates from his youth team like Messi and Pique playing an amazing brand of football and winning is simply too much to resist. Martin Samuel wrote a very good article in the Mail and made an interesting point about if it was Arsenal that had won lots of trophies the last 5 years and Barca that hadn't, would Cesc still want to leave? No, of course not. This is the other flaw in the project. Henry didn't want to stick around waiting for the team to mature and neither does Cesc. It's heart-wrenching though and I can see us moving out the CL positions next season if he goes.
Gooner_Vin
Exactly, Vin. Would Cesc want to leave if this team had shown any real progress in getting past this 3rd place/4th place rut we're in? Cesc is in the same category of young world class players like Cronaldo, Messi, Rooney -- they're of similar age. He's watched them get loads of trophies and awards. While he languishes with a team of coasters and chokers. However, today I think Julie may be right: CESC IS GOING NOWHERE THIS SEASON. I watched the events of yesterday with Barca bringing in Villa and read some of the Spanish press, as well as Barca blogs. Just read arseblog, he's got it right, it fits entirely with what a lot of pundits are saying: Arsenal have the upper hand in this, esp. because Barca are in serious debt. It's not just the huge sum they just paid for Villa. They're supposed to be renovating Camp Nou, a project that apparently is costing them a huge chunk of change. Arsenal hold all the cards in this (at least financially) and the way Barca have behaved has probably ratcheted up the resentment and anger at the club, making them harden even more. Arsenal aren't interested in Toure (nor is he in us) nor Ibra, the only 2 players Barca can offer in any sale. And I don't think Arsenal will accept 30m. If Barca really want this deal to go thru, they'll have to dig very deep for the cash. Now Arsenal's one weak point is that they risk keeping a player who's forced to stay where he doesn't want to. But Cesc loves the club and Arsene. And Arsene's great at persuasion when he has to be.
jaelle
The other thing is this proprietary c-r-a-p talk about Cesc being one of their own--they talk as if it's supposed to be a factor in the deal, as if they own him. You'd think they never take teenagers from other clubs. Barca and RMadrid poach young players from all over Spain (not to mention South America and Portugal). Barca poached Puyol at age 17, Busquets at 17, Messi at 13 and Jeffren at 16. I suppose their former clubs hold some kind of proprietary hold over them too?
jaelle
They can ***** right off with that proprietary *********. Arsenal FC made Cesc the player he is today, taught him everything he knows and therefore based on the fact that we have moulded Cesc into a world class player, we are therefore entitled to ask for a fee reflecting his world class status is a similar vein to the fees of Cristina, Kaka, Ibra etc and all the other big money signings you have seen recently. And you know what the added advantage is and what Cesc has on all of them? Cesc hasnt even reached his prime yet, lord knows how phenomenal this kid is going to be in the next 4-5 years when he is in his prime. Barca will probably reap the rewards of that and therefore they should stump up what we ask for. Its that simple.
True-Gooner-Blood
How can a player possibly stay at a club when he has sent out the most obvious come and get me i have ever heard. He is gone 100%, and if it keeps with this deluded desperate "oh stay for 1 more year please, i pwomiss we will win something next year....or the year after" then the summer will be over with no replacement.
CGan1
Nice points jaelle and T-G-B. I think a valuation should be based on what it'll cost to replace the player in question. Regardless of who trains him, or who he ' loves ', it would probably cost Arsenal up to 80m to replace him and re-build the team.

jaelle
OT: OMG, can't believe UEFA chose Coward Webb to officiate the CL final!
jaelle
I'm sorry, I don't see any replacement for Cesc. Like Jaelle said, he's one of the finest players of his generation along with Messi, Ronaldo and Rooney, and you can't just pick them up as and when you see fit. And Nasri cannot replace Cesc. Noone can read the game or pick out a penetrative pass like Cesc (except for Xavi). If he did leave, what about if we picked up Deco for a season and Joe Cole on a free transfer?
Gooner_Vin
Oh dear, they may not be able to make a bid after all. Hahaha!! Word of advice to Farca, check your finances first and make sure you can actually afford the player before you start proclaiming in the press how you will endeavour to sign him. Its just common sense.

Vin, Deco is determined to join Fluminense - he wants to return to Brazil.
jaelle
How did it go gunnerpig. I was on team Nasri in the end as i changed to play with a mater and we finished 3rd in our group so did not go through. I saw that team Walcott got through,,,..

They can't resist dangling the carrot? That means they can't resist the dangling carrot of dangling the carrot. Hmmmm.......

Tony Rocky Horror
To those of you slagging him off, id be praying for your sake they throw Biscuits into any deal as hes better than any of your current crop, that much was evident when he bossed the park at the emirates. Something like 30m and him wouldnt be too shabby a deal!
HuddersfieldYiddo
I rate Busquets highly as a player despite his theatrics, thought he was one of the best Barca players in the first half at the emirates. I don't think Barca would wan't to let him go, so little chance of us getting him.
bowiecokemirror
Nah, Fabregas won't be going to BarTHElona cos he wouldn't have a prayer of getting in the team. He'll go to Chelsea instead when Frank Pantslard fecks off to Madrid for a sunset smooch with Jose. Don't worry, we'll send the Hudd as a replacement. With a year's supply of his food arriving by HMS Endevour.
Tony Rocky Horror
Well that's July covered Tony, whens the other 11 months worth gonna arrive?
nikolaijns
bowie, spot-on, Busquets is quality and there's no way Barca would sell him to anyone, he's integral to their squad. Interesting tweet from John Cross a half hour ago: "Think Barca will make move for Cesc soon. But #Arsenal standing firmer than firm. Admire their stance and increasingly I think they can win."
jaelle
I hope that we don't use our newly found ' don't mess with us on transfers ' stance if some club makes a bid for Almunia !
Cockney Rich
Jaelle - how do I find John Cross on Twitter?
Gooner_Vin
Jaelle - how do I find John Cross on Twitter?
Gooner_Vin
Lol CR I can imagine someone like Sevilla or Deportivo coming to us and saying ' we are willing to pay 10 million for Almunia' to which our board says '***** off, we want 20 million or no deal!'
True-Gooner-Blood
Vin, I only just now saw your question re John Cross. Click on the "find people" section at the top and type in John Cross. He's under "johncrossmirror."
jaelle
You guys are cracking me up, pleeeeaase. Been on another round trip and been unable to hook up. Fingers crossed on the Cesc matter, though. Coward Webb is CL final Ref. Good grief; watch out for one big call to hand the game to Inter (Bayern eliminated ManU, his favourite side) then.
Naijagunner
hes going to a better club arsene get used to it.
Uskok
Usedcock, you should be used to that, so I guess you are an authority in such matters.
Naijagunner
Will be a good move for fabregas, deserves it considerin arsenals trophyless season again! Imagine xavi busquets and fabregas midfield with iniesta villa messi in attack and pedro, bojan and maybe ibrahimovich on the bench unstopable!
I Am A Villain
Why should Arsenal sell Fabregas for less than his market value? I don't care if he wants to go to Barcelona. He's contracted to us or 5 years and is worth at least 60million. Its up to the spaniards to find the money, not ask us to take a financial hit. I'm sure Cesc understands this which is why he's saying its in the club's hands. If we bend over and drop our shorts then there's no-one to blame but the board. Don't forget those catalans already owe us a shed load of cash, so the last thing we should be doing is giving our best player away at a bargain price.
