Wenger Still Browsing In Football's Shop Window

Arsene Wenger says he isn't finished in the transfer market, just 24 hours after signing 24 year old defender Laurent Koscielny. Double Hurrah!

More specifically Mr Wenger says he's still on the look out for another defender, presumable another centreback considering we have two of the finest full backs in the league and probably the best back up full backs in Europe.

We identified Koscielny as a very, very strong centre half,' Said AW

'He can be an outstanding addition to our team. But it is not over, we are still open to buy. We are still on the market for another defensive player because we have the need for one more.'

Having lost Gallas, Campbell and Sylvestre (Triple Hurrah!) this summer we were down to our last two central defenders, but having completed the sign of Laurent Koscielny. we've got (apparently) 3 very good centre halves, so one more would be top top, considering we also have Song for cover in case of emergencies I'd say the gaffer would have done his job to rebuild the defence admirably.

Yes!! Looks like another defender is incoming. Come on AW bring in Hangeland! Now that Woy has gone to Anfield now is a great time to strike and sign him!

He probably means Bendtner coming back from injury is like a new signing

I'm hearing Schwarzer has passed a medical. I am unbelievably underwhelmed. I have to concede that I fully agree with everyone who sayd Wenger has a blind spot for keepers. Schwarzer is ancient as well as a bit cack, I genuinely believe that is zero improvement on Almunia.

LD, I hope your source is wrong. Very very underwhelming.

Buying Schwarzer would be step-down in my opinion. I read on Goon Blog that he passed a second medical, but earlier today he also stated that the club confirmed that they did arrange an interview with the kenyan newspaper when they themselves denied it. So I remain hopeful that this is made up. But if it is true it really shows the lack of quality goalkeepers available in todays game when we have to spend £4 million on someone like Schwarzer.

I guess we'll see how good the source is in the next few days! But they don't even steer me wrong. I must say, if Joe Cole and Schwarzer really are part of Arsene's transfer plans, then I can see a bit of credence in the whispers that Cesc's desire to move was expediated by Arsene's summer plans. In my humble opinion, those two players are not an improvement on anything we have.

Probably even James would be better,at least cheaper

I would only sign Joe Cole if he had one of those pay as you play contracts. His wage demands are straight stupid.

There isn't much difference between Almunia and Schwarzer in terms of ability at all, but our team and fans have lost complete confidence in Almunia, and that just transfers round the rest of the team an into the stands. I think it could work out ok, and it probably won't be long term, just till next season or so to bring Schezezenznznnnny through. I on the other hand would like Joe Cole on a free, always been a fan.
08/07/2010 17:27:00
@ LD. granted technically he's probably at the same level as Almunia, and will no doubt make the odd cock up but everyone, and most importantly our defense have lost faith in Al so having an experienced prem keeper between the sticks is our best option for the new season. If Schwarzer fails to impress at least we can say we tried something new and the following season Tech9 should hopefully have had a years worth experience in the prem and will step up to the plate (or goal line if you like). I really don't see much other viable alternative. Every gk that has been linked to us fails the grade in one way or other.
