Chamakh Told Not To Play For 'Small' Tottenham

Arsenal new boy Marouane Chamakh has found favour with Arsenal fans after a couple of decent performances in pre-season, and no doubt he will be endeared further after revealing, and these are his words, that he was told he shouldn't play for a small club like Tottenham.

Chamakh joined Arsenal in the summer on a free transfer after his contract with Bordeaux expired. The centre forward reveled in an interview with FourFourTwo magazine that he was told by the then Bordeaux manager, Laurent Blanc, that he should not join a small club like Tottenham.

Mourouane said, 'I only wanted to join Arsenal but they would not pay the price Bordeaux demanded,'

'Blanc told me I shouldn't join a smaller club like Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspur, Blackburn or West Ham. He really wanted me to join Arsenal but he wanted Arsenal to meet the asking price, which wasn't much because I was starting the last year of my contract.'

'We weighed up the pros and cons and I decided to stay with the backing of my coach.'

Of course we here at Vital Arsenal aren't for one minute suggesting that Spurs are a small club, we just report the news.

Anelka clearly spent far too much time in the company of Domenesch in the summer and some of his mental has rubbed off on him!

The "small" team that have won more than Arsenal in the last 5 years...we'll see how small we are when Chamakh is in Daws' back pocket this season.

lol @ Rocky7. Here's a question for you, would you rather sell Fabregas for, say, £30-£40m, or have him stay reluctantly (as is the case now)?
