Chamakh Told Not To Play For 'Small' Tottenham

Arsenal new boy Marouane Chamakh has found favour with Arsenal fans after a couple of decent performances in pre-season, and no doubt he will be endeared further after revealing, and these are his words, that he was told he shouldn't play for a small club like Tottenham.

Chamakh joined Arsenal in the summer on a free transfer after his contract with Bordeaux expired. The centre forward reveled in an interview with FourFourTwo magazine that he was told by the then Bordeaux manager, Laurent Blanc, that he should not join a small club like Tottenham.

Mourouane said, 'I only wanted to join Arsenal but they would not pay the price Bordeaux demanded,'

'Blanc told me I shouldn't join a smaller club like Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspur, Blackburn or West Ham. He really wanted me to join Arsenal but he wanted Arsenal to meet the asking price, which wasn't much because I was starting the last year of my contract.'

'We weighed up the pros and cons and I decided to stay with the backing of my coach.'

Of course we here at Vital Arsenal aren't for one minute suggesting that Spurs are a small club, we just report the news.

We could take offense at this, but I think we all know the sleeping giants of english football have awakened :)
Spursnomad
That was an awfully long nap nomad ;)
Rocky7
Here's an intelligent ex-gooner's thoughts :) http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6299122,00.html
Spursnomad
Anelka clearly spent far too much time in the company of Domenesch in the summer and some of his mental has rubbed off on him!
Rocky7
I've had alot of downs in my 23 years of being a spurs fan but just as things were starting to look up balon d'or in waiting Marouane Chamakh has delivered the knock out blow. Dark days ahead...
Phartman87
easily plaesed they can be, just look at them drooling at cesc stayin for one more season.
123spurs
The "small" team that have won more than Arsenal in the last 5 years...we'll see how small we are when Chamakh is in Daws' back pocket this season.
Chris Hart
Must be great having yet another foreign player in your ranks ;)
mwatspurs
lol @ Rocky7. Here's a question for you, would you rather sell Fabregas for, say, 30-40m, or have him stay reluctantly (as is the case now)?
Joshtottenham
One of the smallest at Tottenham is a bloke called Danny Rose ;)
Stratty
Fabregas won't be the same this year... it'll be like Ronaldo wanting away at United - he will protest by dropping off performances. Sweet :)
Stratty
i rather see Arsenal finish outside top 4 and spuds relegated.
fcdematthew
The trolls are out in full force. Funny, I thought this was Vital Arsenal, and I thought the Spuds would be over at Vital Spuds discussing all o Harry's signings this summer. Oh, right. Don't worry Spuddies, unproven 21 year old foreigner Sandro will lead you to the holy grail, and as soon as Harry signs his only real target- a third string keeper- watch out England!
elbondo
still no number 1 keeper, tick tock tick tock, unknown defender an a freebie no cash to spash again wenger only urself to blame when another failed season ahead
123spurs
Spurs have really spent a lot of money this closed season haven't they. Saving up for the new white elephant already?
elbondo
"Our biggest rivals will of course be Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, while Manchester City could play a major role" Hmm. Funny how you completely ignored that. In all seriousness, Spurs campaign will be the most interesting to watch out of all the teams this season, I think Spurs will overcome Young Boys and play in the group stages. How will Redknapp balance the league and the champions league at the same time. Will they adopt the same youth policy in the Carling Cup as we do. I wont watch many Spurs matches this season but I will keep an eye out on their domestic results after long trips in Europe and off course that extra spice to the North London Derby as both clubs are in the CL.
gronedrone
Rocky7 continually moans about Spurs fans being on VA, yet writes articles like this one. Much like the old school bike saying no but meaning yes. Not a wise thing for Chamug to say imo.
Clive 49
Unlike big club Arsenal with their pot of trophies in the last 5 years!!hahaha
freddya
Uh oh, it looks I've been duped by the VA editors. Probably cackling into a chardonnay as we speak. Well played Rocky. I'll leave you to it ;)
Phartman87
Congrats on your milk cup guys. It was an earth shattering achievement. We play only our boys who have milk teeth in the milk cup! On a more serious note, all the best for the new season.
Deltaforce
Writing this article was the equivalent of opening another perfect fried chicken on Tottenham high road, they all come flocking. You guys must be gutted young boys nicked your stadium name, apparently you were gonna name it after what arry did when he sold Darren Bent.
iceman10
what ur point iceman, wenger is giving us a look at hes young boys box set, still deluded as ever, great fun on here listen to comments with there head always up there ares
123spurs

Laurent Blanc has little if not any Knowledge in the history of the english game, one season in the prem doesnt make u an expert! what he proberly said is "ve herv a franch tim in ze premierrr ligue and ze name iz ze arzenal. lmfao! on to the next one.....
82_Yid
Keep the Spurs references coming Vital A***. That way you'll get more comments, and not end up slightly below Vital Bolton on the responses front. Chamw.a.n.k will realise when he comes to our place, that he may wish to keep the headphones on well after he's got off the bus.
lordjohnny
Some good advice there from Laurent Blanc to Marouanne.
True-Gooner-Blood
of course the gunners believe everything they hear.....sick of wenger sayin we can win the CL etc an now the midget cesc
123spurs
Job done, Paul. ;)
Sajit
Talk about art of noise. Sounds about as classy as some of the Adebayor comments he used to blab off....how did he end up btw? Still "endeared"?
HuddersfieldYiddo
If Chamakh read what the idiot spuds post here, he'd know they are even smaller than Blanc suggested. News flash: finishing top four for the first time since 89-90, 14 managers,an FA Cup in 1991 and two league cups in that period do not make you a big club. 13 consecutive top 4 finishes, 11 consecutive appearances in the Champions League group stage, 4 league titles, 5 FA Cups and 1 Champs League runners-up medal, however, do make you a big club.
elbondo
Legia Warsaw 5-6 Arsenal.... Title contenders!??? I think not!
eighthsin
and elbobdo has missed the last 4 years, of winning nothing, not even close to winning anything, for such big club, and a big club with the recored ye have for last 4 years would of sacked the manager
123spurs
Give it up 123, if you wouldn't have swapped league position and a worst case of final 8 in the Champions League for one tin cup over the past four seasons, you are even more deluded than most spuds. Here's a big difference- your tiny club sacks a manager after a poor start, our club engages in something called 'long term planning'. Big clubs plan, tiny clubs react and start over. That's why you will always be in our shadow. Forever. Now **** off back to Vital Spuds where you can circle jerk with your mates and dream of winning something bigger than the league cup.
elbondo
Elbondy, like the stockmarket over time things go up and things go down. Spurs go up and you ****s go down.
TeddyLyon
The Proportion of Spurs fans to that of Arsenal fans on the Arsenal Site answers your question as to whether we are a small club or not
Yid_from_India
no, it just says you are a bunch of jealous trolls who have nothing better to do that stink up another forum with your inane bleatings. Why do you think nobody hear wastes time on your site? Always talking, never doing, but this year you'll be better than Arsenal, right spuddies? Teddy, 16 years or so since you were ahead of us and nothing is about to change. what about all Harry's signings this year? Oh right, your club is too poor to get anything but loans according to him. Losers.
elbondo
Yid from India, No , it shows that the VS have the largest number of trolls..
Sajit
All it's gonna take is Man City to win at WHL the first game of the season and they'll all be calling for Redknapp's head.
Gooner_Vin
most arsenal fans talk out their backsides leave skid marks...spuds ? trolls ? hahaha yer gurney faced gooners BIG bottom burps!
outlaws
Yep, they're a small cub with over inflated expectations. No doubt, they'll be outclassed if they get to the CL stages and struggle to finish in the top six. They won't again profit with shoddy performances from us, Citeh and Chelski this time round. Can they form their own site? Maybe they enjoy being the butts of Gooner humour
knighton gooner
Can I add my 2 cents? Sp*ds could get far in the champs league. They're style & pace suits euro more, kinda like you guys.
Chelsea24/7
not only are spurs a small, insignificant and pathetically low standards club, but they're also constantly looking over their fence in envy and jealousy of their neighbours. wake up to reality you hideously ignorant trolls, respect has to be earned through achievement against the best teams in england and europe. not spurts of positive results throughout decades of mediocrity.
supersof
@ Spurs123 - "and elbobdo has missed the last 4 years, of winning nothing, not even close to winning anything, for such big club, and a big club with the recored ye have for last 4 years would of sacked the manager" Have you finished above us in the PL or done better then us in the CL in the last 4 years? History proves the fact we're much bigger then you, MUCH bigger. Useless tw*ts have no leg to stand on.
FuiKaka
Hahahah these comments are hilarious. I'm a fan of neither and actually prefer Spurs but the fans must be high on acid if they think they're bigger than Arsenal. Two league cups is ***** all, Arsenal have one of the best managers the English game has ever seen. Arry is good but Wenger makes him look like a youth team manager. Arsenal are a bigger club face it Spurs fans, 3 EPL titles(is it 3?) two doubles in those 3 wins, a champions league runners up spot, at least second round every year, a manager who has a great eye for youth, and well they may not be English but I don't care because neither am I. Arseanl are far superior to your team, how does one top 4 make ye bigger than a team who has one the EPL finished second and third while ye were languishing in 12, 13, 8, 9 whatever, if I was to say to you that Celtic were the best British club you'd laugh right? well they were the first to win the European cup but that was so long ago that it means nothing, like what Spurs achieved long ago means nothing, Spurs are a big club but teeny tiny compared to Arsenal. Now my two cents lol.
DavidT_CFC
DavidT_CFC - Now there's someone who knows what they're talking about!
Sir Henry
123, you have spell check? Then you need to have it 'checked' on account of ALL of your posts!

Nomad, Anelka was obviously, having a laugh when he made that statement, otherwise, why did he leave you out of his list of Chelsea's "biggest rivals" of the season? (thanks, Gronedrone. I read the full report too). You Spuds need to smell the coffee; you are such a small club compared to your mighty neighbours! Period.
Naijagunner
DavidT_CFC, it wasn't worth two cents.
Clive 49
@ FuiKaka if you look closely youll see its 123spurs not spurs 123, take off the tinted glasses plonker
