Lineups: Arsenal v. Blackpool

Blackpool opened their Premier League account last weekend in stylish fashion, while Arsenal sputtered along to earn a valuable point at Anfield. However with Alex Song, Cesc Fabregas, and Robin van Persie back for today`s encounter, Arsene Wenger will be aiming to extinguish Blackpool`s honeymoon.

Arsenal Starting XI: Almunia, Sagna, Song, Vermaelen, Clichy, Rosicky, Wilshere, Diaby, Walcott, Arshavin, Chamakh

Arsenal Bench: Fabianski, Eboue, Gibbs, Djourou, Fabregas, van Persie, Vela

Blackpool Starting XI: Gilks, Baptiste, Evatt, Cathcart, Crainey, Sylvestre, Vaughan, Adam, Grandin, Harewood, Taylor-Fletcher

Blackpool Bench: Halstead, Eardley, Ormerod, Basham, Edwards, Demontagnac, Keinan

Is that really Walcott?
I'm not sure. Maybe Walcott 2.0?
He's only got pace that lad, no football brain I tell you.
Take Chamakh off and wrap him up, he's been man of the match for me.
5-0 down and you got these two coming on.
Glad to see Cesc on the pitch!
Seemed like one of the most straightforward wins we'd get this season to me hehe...
Just back from the game. Even though the opposition wasn't the best, it was an impressive performance from Walcott and Wilshere. Wilshere plays with so much maturity. I can imagine him and Ramsey making a great, and fiesty, central midfield partnership when we need to go to tough away games and mix it about physically.
Walcott always plays well against teams that let him run at them. I will be interested when he comes up against someone who roughs him up a bit or comes in with a hard early challenge. He was impressive, but i was extra impressed with Rosicky, thought he was excellent. Would of loved for Vela to score after his ball juggling skills.
Is RvP okay? I almost fainted when he went down like that... :S
Walcott had an excellent game (much like the Burnley match last season) but the MOTM for me was Rosicky. Everything we did today came from him. I'd pick him ahead of AA next week and long may the Rosicky we all know and love prosper.

now, lets just reapeat this performance for the next 36 games in the PL, shall we..
shady gunna
Clive, a team banking on beating the young boys at home to progress in the CL after getting spanked away from home has no right to say anything on this matter.
Clive, are you saying we should lose like you did to Wolves?
A great performance all round yesterday lads, well done. Theo's passing and running off the ball was every bit as impressive as his finishing. His brain looks to have finally caught up with his body. A very ' mature ' display from him in all aspects of his game. Rosicky's vision and passing were from another planet at times. He gave AA23 a pass with the outside of his foot that was sublime. It completely left the FB for dead, and was even curling towards goal so the Russian didn't even have to break stride or change direction to receive it. From AA's ball in, Chamakh somehow managed to hit the bar. Tomas gave Sagna a similar pass in the bulid up to our 4th goal. If Tomas can stay fit, he can be our most influential player, and every bit as important to us as Cesc.

I also loved one moment in the match where Sagna sprinted 60 yards back to stop a Blackpool counter-attack after one of our corners. Was also thinking how we all of a sudden it does seem like we have a decent squad that can fill two teams (if we sign a new centre-half). Team 1: Almunia-Clichy-Vermaelen-Koscielny-Sagna; Song-Diaby-Cesc; Arshavin-RVP-Nasri. Team 2: Fabianski-Gibbs-Djourou-Squillaci-Eboue; Denilson-Rosicky-Wilshere; Vela-Chamakh-Walcott. Both teams 4-3-3.
Just a point about Song yesterday. It was a decent run out for him as he eases himself back into the team. However, I was surprised to see him being played at CB. Does anyone else worry for Djourou, when he is presumably fit but misses out on a starting place to a DM being played out of position ??? After all, Djourou is the 'specialist' CB, so was it more important for Song to get 90 minutes than Djourou ??? Are we to assume that Squillaci WILL be the 3rd choice CB , if and when he comes ??
Cockney Rich
Why would you be surprised to see Song at CB? He has been played in that position every season. A couple of seasons back Wenger was claiming that it was more his natural position than midfield. If anything he has become a default midfielder as much out of necessity as design.
Amos > My surprise at Song playing at CB was due to Djourou being fit, presumably. Would it not have been MORE beneficial to give him a starting place , thus boosting HIS confidence and fitness ??? Over the last 2 seasons Djourou has hardly played, and it's safe to say that Song is considered a DM who fills in at CB if/when needed. Song offers more to our team as a DM rather than a CB, and not the other way around. If Song is going to play CB regularly, then why chase a CB in the transfer market AND keep Djourou ? And don't come out with " well how do you know we are chhsing a CB ", when it's a ******** FACT.
Cockney Rich
It is a fact that we are looking for another CB - Wenger has told us so. I think Song was picked ahead of Djourou simply because he had recovered from injury a little earlier and was fitter. A pragmatic decision rather than any major doubt about Djourou. Wenger said this weekend that for the present he considers Song part of our CB resources - presumably until someone else comes in but 2 years ago at the shareholders meeting Wenger told everyone that he considered that Song was a centre back that was filling in as a CM. It isn't beyond the realms of possibility, if he is happy with what else we have in midfield, that Song will revert to the role Wenger originally anticipated.
Gooner_Vin, my sentiments exactly, re: the strength of our bench. For long now, we have looked at our bench and groaned about "who to bring on to change the game?", when things are going awry. Not yesterday. Fancy bringing on RvP and Cesc at 5 goals up; that must have got the other side thinking "what more do they want?" We need to get back to the days when opposition teams were more scared about what we had in waiting (on the bench) than what they faced. It only makes for a competitive squad and greater commitment. Without fear of having to eat my words, if we bring in about 2 new signings for the obvious areas, Arsenal probably has the best bench in the land, assuming Theo, Rosicky and Wilshere continue to flourish.
