Arsenal Draw Shakhtar As Eduardo Comes Home

The draw for this season's Champions League competition has been made with the mighty Gunners being in the thick of it.

The draw see's former Arsenal favorite Eduardo Da Silva heading home after only just moving to Shaktar Donesk in the Summer.

The rest of Arsenal's group is made up of Braga from Portugal and Partizan Belgrade Serbian champions. There are no easy ties in the Champions League, but that's about as good as we could have hoped for.

The draw in full:

Group A
Inter Milan
Werder Bremen
Tottenham Hotspur
FC Twente

Group B
FC Shalke
Hapoel Tel-Aviv

Group C
Man United

Group D
FC Copenhagen
Rubin Kazan

Group E
Bayern Munich
CFR Cluj

Group F
Spartak Moscow

Group G
AC Milan
Real Madrid

Group H

Shaktar Donetsk
Partizan Belgrade

Hmmm, odd things going on with the text there. It'll be sorted in 2 minutes.

Trips to Braga and Shakhtar would be tough. The return of Eddie will be emotional for everyone involved. Otherwise, should come throught the group easily. Group G looks fun: Milan, real and ajax would be great to watch

Not bad at all. If we can't progress from that group something is wrong.

Agree with Eboue = GOD. Trips away to Braga and Shaktar will be potential banana skins especially as we seem to struggle when playing in Ukraine or Russia, but nevertheless, I am quitely confident we should get through. Will be wonderful to see Eddy back at the Grove. Just hope he doesnt score the winner against us and only scores a consolation goal!! :-)

once again the Gooners get the softest group up there. Who you mugs paying off to get the charmin ultra group every year? See you in the knockout round.

Well Arsenal, ManU, and Chel$ki should be happy with their draws. I am still torn whether A or G is the group of death, so I almost feel pity for Spuds (but I think that is more the fear of what they are going to do to England's coefficient).

Yankee Spur .... that's what happens when you are consistent in Europe and prove yourself .... the amateur mugs have to tough it out for a while. An no, we won't see you in the knockout rounds because we won't be in the UEFA Cup after the group stages ;)

I don't think we really used Eduardo in the way that suited his game. Hes always thrived on knock downs in the box, not pass and move.

Just when will the gooners lose that lucky tag? I think Spurs have a good chance of making the ko stages.

I don't see what's lucky about it Clive? We've earned our status as a number one seed, so they can't go around giving us the top teams. If you have a susstained run in the CL and climb the co-efficients will you say that you're just being lucky when it comes to the draw? I doubt it very much.

Lucky is being seeded in the qualifiers due to the performances of 2 of the clubs you hate most, not 1 thank you either, tut tut.

Just saw this on twitter from a gooner: "Miles to travel: #Arsenal: 3181m, #Chelsea: 3019m, #Man Utd: 2875m, #Spurs: 1292m. Not ideal given AFC's league games after CL fixtures."

The Spuds were 0.6 pts away from having a good enough co efficient to get into Pot 2. So if 'Arry would've taken your WAFFA Cup tie against Shakthar seriously last year, you'd have had a better draw. As for us, considering we're top seeds and thus would expect to get beatable teams, this draw is a bad one. Lots of long journeys. Consider the fact that we have to go to the Bodge, Old Trafford and Sunderland after our CL group games this year. Will be good to see Eduardo again though.

Also, Arsenal have never won away in any competition in any of the three countries that they have to visit in Group H.

Home wins against all three teams is possible. Our away record in the CL is improving and I fancy our chances again. Fatigue and the hectic PL schedule is the biggest concern though.

Braga facts: Portuguese team with 14 Brazilians - very organized defensively, hard to break down - Lima is a very effective striker, usually lethal

I understand and for that reason i wont go to the Ukraine either. I will too go to Braga, apparantly the fans are known as the arsenalistas because they have the same kit as us. Wiki also says "they have been known as Arsenal do Minho and changed their kits from green-and-white hoops to their Arsenal-style red in 1920 when their then-coach Jozef Szabo, following a trip to England and Highbury, ordered the club to adopt new colours to establish their own identity".

Ukraine's tame fan wise, the Kyiv fans were good as gold with us. But the people are quite cold when you're doing the touristy thing- not that there's anything really to see. Kyiv set me back about a grand all in a couple of years back and I've just had my pay frozen for 2 years and my annual bonus halved, so it's a no go this year!
