'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Adebayor - As Stupid As He Looks

Emmanuel Adebayor has bizarrely claimed that a run of ten wins in a row for Manchester City would see them become a bigger club than his former employers, Arsenal.

In the latest weird and bitter outburst from Ade since he was unceremoniously dumped from the North London outfit, the Man City striker revealed his bizarre opinion that a handful of wins would see City become a larger football club than one of England's most decorated football teams.

'With the great new players we've got we have a wonderful chance to make history. But it's all about results.' Said Adebayor

'If we can win ten games in a row, people will class Manchester City as bigger than Arsenal.'

So 11 more league titles, 6 more FA Cups, 1 more European trophy, a larger stadium (built and paid for by our own club) the longest run of any team bar Everton of sustained top flight football, 13 consecutive seasons in the Champions League and one unbeaten season are effectively wiped clean because City won ten games on the bounce?

If you say so bud!

He's obviously been asked a loaded question and didn't want to upset his current employers. He just wasn't subtle enough to do that without making him self sound like a lunatic
Phartman87
He doesn't get paid all that money to just warm the bench at Citeh, talking smack about his former club is also in the job description.
gronedrone
Ade ain't the sharpest tool in the box I'll admit, particularly when a journo wants him to provide a controversial soundbite, but suspect this is being blown out of proportion in the same way John Lennon's "Beatles Bigger than Jesus". Still, nice to see the player you all hate still has the capacity to get under your skin so easily. ;)
fifthcolumnblue
Not really FCB - Just there's so little to talk about in the international break that we'll take any topic we can get our hands on .... no matter how stupid ;)
Rocky7
He's got an incredible ability to irritate. Quite a few of the comments he's made since becoming a city player have riled me. His ego is the size of a small planet.
SkyBlueSuedeShoes
Indeed Sky Blue, it wouldn't be so bad if he actually took part in any improvements City have made on the pitch. He's just talking for talking's sake.
Rocky7
Shouldn't Ade have said " If THEY can win 10 games in a row " and not " if WE " ? That mug isn't in the City first team for a very good reason. It's the same reason that we sold him, thank God.
Cockney Rich
The guy is a quality footballer and on he made a decent return goals wise for us last season, but I also see why you gunners thought he was a bit of a ****, he is after all a bit of a gob *****e.
Paul Calf
Can't you morons see Ade is having a lend of you. The bloke is a born stirrer, ge a life..
johnkelv
regardless of him being a fruitcake and a bit of a tosser, i think the point made is football is about results, not about history! Which is not so controversial. The interviewer made it about arsenal....
tommytheblue
Hold on guys, what's with all the fuss? The quote was "If Man City win 10 games in a row...." which kind of ends the debate about whether they will EVER be a "bigger" club than Arsenal. Can anyone see them winning 10 games in a row? Unlikely.
LondonGooner
....although it doesn't mean Adebayor is nothing more than a total dickhead. Disliked by fans of pretty much every club he has played for.
LondonGooner
Talk about stupid . . . . Duh!
naijagooner
In fairness, he was asked a rather loaded question and he's hardly going to say anything derogatory about his current employers- well, now the transfer window is shut he isn't anyway. Adebayor is a journalist's dream because he's too stupid to have any sort of tact. Whereas someone like Cesc would be savvy enough to answer the question without really answering it at all, Adebayor appears to inhabit a bit of a dream world where he thinks kissing the badge after scoring a penalty in a friendly is enough to sway supporters he's just spent three months disrespecting. His machinations are always very see through, mealy mouthed platitudes towards his current team's supporters that he thinks come across as genuine. I am still utterly convinced that Adebayor has some sort of mild bi-polar disorder.
Little Dutch
...or he is just a complete cretin?
LondonGooner
didnt he score all his goals against derby?
bootoo
didnt he score all his goals against derby? bootoo - No, that was against Spu*s mate.
LondonGooner
Maybe he is just a weapon, but I'd say the delusional statements, his utter refusal to self analyse and his exasperation that anybody could possibly ever consider him as anything other than a victim, together with his occasional fits of violent temper (the stamp on RvP, going postal after being sent off in the Carling Cup final, the arrest for allegedly beating up his missus in 2007), all point to someone with slight mental issues. That's the thing about Adebayor that's quite striking, whereas the likes of Cashley and Anelka knew their motivations were of self interest, Adebayor appears to genuinely believe that he is some kind of martyr.
Little Dutch
Oh dear. What a deluded moron Adebarndoor is. It seems he has completely lost his mind since leaving us. Even Man Citeh fans think he is talking utter *****e.
True-Gooner-Blood
Yeah stupid quote the journos managed to get out of Ade's mouth. Are we surprised? No.
GoonerLou
To be fair to the guy, it was probably lost in translation. He was speaking english when he said it.
lordjohnny
Little Dutch, If RvP had come sliding in , trying to "do" me, I'd've stamped on his head too. There are plenty of sane people retalliate. Now can't you Arsenal fans let it go? It's only a game.
thecamelsfoot
Really? You'd rake your studs on someone's face if they tried to slide tackle you? I hope I don't ever end up playing against you then! Stoke City awaits you sir. I have let it go, but you can't really decry Arsenal fans for having an opinion on this when the club are mentioned.
Little Dutch
thecamelsfoot, why are you wasting your time here on this forum? Aren't there enough promising players to decapitate today?
Deltaforce
The average IQ at Eastlands fell by 50 when Adebayor joined -- nicked from a forum.
Sajit
Tbh though i thought he came across as quite a nice bloke on MOTD in the world cup. But then again so does John Terry
HuddersfieldYiddo
Agree with LD re possibility of having mild bipolar disorder or some kind of psych. problem. He's just not very bright which is no crime but he also has a massively delusional ego - so put those 2 together and you get an obnoxious idiot.
jaelle
I love this guy!!
Uskok
But how will he ever know, he'll probably loose count at around four.
Whitelinefever
Wasn't he talking about leaving S*itty publicly if he wasn't getting game time this season about 3-4 weeks ago?
FuiKaka
Adebayor is like the jilted ex girlfriend who has found a new boyfriend and is adamant she is over her ex....but at every opportunity she turns up at the same pub on a Saturday night parading her new bit to convince us she really is over him. How sad....You almost feel sorry for the new boyfriend.
