Manchester City-Arsenal Team Line-ups

Hello Gooners, here are the line-ups of the teams playing at the City of Manchester Stadium today. I realised we hadn't put up a line-up article here just a few minutes into the game and one of the names is no longer on the pitch. Now we're playing against 10 men and I hope our technical quality will get us the right result!

Wow as I was typing, Samir Nasri has already demonstrated the sort of 'technical quality' we've got. Such a well-worked goal with a brilliant finish!

Manchester City Starting Line-up
Joe Hart, Micah Richards, Dedryk Boyata, Vincent Kompany, Jerome Boateng, James Milner, Gareth Barry, Nigel de Jong, Yaya Toure, David Silva, Carlos Tevez

Manchester City Substitutes
Shay Given, Wayne Bridge, Joleon Lescott, Patrick Vieira, Adam Johnson, Emmanuel Adebayor, Mario Balotelli

Arsenal Starting Line-up
Lukasz Fabianski, Bacary Sagna, Johan Djourou, Sebastien Squillaci, Gael Clichy, Andrey Arshavin, Denilson, Alex Song, Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Marouane Chamakh

Arsenal Substitutes
Wojciech Szczesny, Laurent Koscielny, Kieran Gibbs, Emmanuel Eboue, Theo Walcott, Tomas Rosicky, Nicklas Bendtner

The travelling Gooners are enjoying themselves, singing their lungs out. Well done and keep going!

Ty Lou.We're playing well so far only worry is that all our mids are now on yellows
i'd bet everything we'll end this match with 10 men or less, bad tackling from both sides so far
pen :D
Nasri should've took it
I thought Samir was going to take the pen against Shaktar but Cesc resumed his responsiblities. In my opinion Nasri seems to watch the keepers movement and then shoot but Cesc goes for power or placement. Surely Nasri will take the next penalty, and I can't remember the last game it was he didn't score for us.
we've got to make use of walcott's pace against 10 men.. lets hope wenger plays walcott in the 2nd half and perhaps sacrifice denilson as he is already on a yellow
Ah Mcgooner got there first ahead of me
Hope it isn't a repeat of Sunderland(A). 1-0 up. Miss a penalty. Then concede a late equaliser. I'd like to see Walcott on the right. Boateng's right footed playing at left back. Looks like he can be got at. And against the 10 men Walcott's pace could do wonders
Oh lets please get a second, I dont want this to be another Sunderland.
We could have buried them but it was not to be..we are not our usual tidy self in midfield and city have had their fair share of chances. Really need to clean up our act and play the pressing game in the second half.
LOL eboue=god you got there before me too.
unfortunately i really cant see us lasting the entire game with 11 men. this is far too stressful for my liking!!
as much of a great job as denilson is doing, he is left to mop up everytime citeh break and is exposing himself to a second yellow. i would take him off for rosicky and reset that yellow card count
I agree with A_W. Rosicky for Denilson and Walcott on for Arshavin.
Not take the shot? What are they supposed to do?..Hope it deflects off all 3 city CBs
We really should take more shots on goal. Arshavin, Denilson, Fab and Nasri all have good shooting ability but god knows what they wait for.
what a time to get it .come on you gooners!
Let's be solid now and put on another midfielder and pass them to death.
Its time for substitutions. The only way they can get back now is if we have players sent off.
Eboue & rosicky plz
Didn't Song run straight into Kompany there?
Fabianski is playing great...more power to him.
Fabianski has got some ridiculous reaction time, the boy is quick.
Rosicky could have killed the game. Nobody bloody shoots.
Yeah well done to Fabi too. That save from Silva's shot was great! Ooh I was so glad Song just shot when the other attacking players didn't shoot as much as I hoped. Great to have Tomas on to control the game a bit more at this stage. Thought AA also did well today, even tracked back in the 2nd half.
Big Game Bendtner!!!
yaaay!! bendtner
niky!!!!! love it
Very well done Samir and Nik!! Just glad Paddy and Kolo aren't playing...
Is Ade even playing? :$
Very well done lads!!! :D
Fabi outperformed Joe Hart! ^_^
Thanks Lou! Really great game from everybody, especially Fabianksi.
So glad we've one of these big games - and away from home! And we kept a clean sheet! Fabianski was very good today, so pleased for him. Just need Vermaelen and RvP to come back and we'll be all set. What a difference having Cesc on the pitch makes. He's so crucial to the rest of our season.
Nasri=BRILLIANT today. MOTM. He was great against Chelsea too. Denilson also really good in midfield. And Clichy although he had his moments looked ok. Sagna solid as ever. And a great hurray for Lukasz Fabianski. "Flappyhandsky" no more eh?? Arshavin showed some grit. Put in a shift. Shut up the critics. Chamakh also looking good. Was a bit worried about the Squill-Djourou partnership in defence. Held out in the end. Delighted with the win. Great win against one of our title rivals
MOTM Nasri or Fabianski?
Nasri for me. I admit Fabianski's saves were brilliant. But he did make some of them look tougher than they seemed. Nasri was absolute class today. Tracking back. Tackling. Dribbling. Scoring. Assisting. Everything in the book. Great game from him.
Scrappy first half from us but a masterful second half! Almost everyone pulled their weight today and well done to the defence for the clean sheet. Congratulations all round!
Was anyone else concerned about the number of chances that City were making in the first half after we'd gone ahead even though they were down to 10 men?
i am absolutely exhausted after that! really nice to get a result against one of the big teams, hopefully that will provide us with the confidence to improve our recent record against them. have to say fabianski has looked pretty assured so far (as did almunia early season). THANK GOD WE DIDN'T GET SCHWARZER!
In the second half we played smart football. Kept possession, cut out the silly tackles and weaved our web around them.
yeah i have to agree with you gooner_vin but to be honest im far too happy to worry about that right now, just nice to get the win.
Back to second. West Ham up next at home after Newcastle in the CC. Good run of games coming up in the Premier League. West Ham(H) Newcastle(H) Wolves (A) Everton (A) and then of course who could forget Sp*rs(H). All winnable games.
City got SCHOOLED! Wenger needs to start playing Denilson and Song away from home on a regular basis, midfield was solid today.
Some Great Saves from Fabianski today, which should do him the world of good! I am so Happy that we have got 3pts!
Denilson should be played more I admit. His ability to hold the ball and pass it to another player does come in handy to keep possession in away games. I remember against Barcelona last season he was brilliant breaking up play and then passing it to a teammate. Really helpful in retaining possession
I agree about Denilson, he needs to play more, he's like Gilberto, doing a lot of work that goes unnoticed. Plus he looks a bit stronger and sharper this season.
Agree with Iceman - midfield combo was great today. Good pick for away games. I'm still undecided between Fabi and Nasri for MotM! :)
Cesc's mere presence on the pitch makes us play a lot better but Nasri gets the MOTH for me. He does an unbelievable amount of running for the team, he has always been one of the best finishers at the club but he's getting into more dangerous positions to put that to use. His assist tally is also much much better. We all expected this from after his excellent pre-season but only in playing off the striker not in the wide position. So its more commendable considering its not his favourite position.
Why were our players shaking hands with that ******** **** Adebaywhore??
I was also wondering why they were having a laugh with him at half-time... but what the hell, he got humiliated today! :)
Great Job Gooners! Knocked City off their little perch.
Our midfield seems to struggle to keep possession without Wilshere there. We had the same problem in the West Brom game. Our defence looked very jittery in the first half also with Clichy being caught out of position quite often. I'd prefer to give Gibbs a run in the team for a while. Hopefully we can get Vermaelen back soon as we're clearly missing his composure in defence. Should have brought on Walcott a lot earlier as City defence were playing quite high up the pitch. Fabianski and Chamakh were both very good today but it has to be Nasri for MOTM.
What's more amazing: Nasri scored his 7th goal in as many games or Chamakh got yet another man sent off? O_O
####### get in! Been a long time coming a result like that against a title rival away from home! And Mancini can play his team down as much as he likes (ref pre match comments). They have got one of the best squads in Europe....on paper. And the pressure is on them to win silverware just as it is us. I said after the WBA game its a long old season :)
Hmm, a competent referee and city go crashing down, weird.
Though the way Nigel De Jong lives a charmed life continues to confound. At this rate he will break two more legs before the season finishes but will finish with 0 yellow cards come the end of the season.
The ref was really good today. Got most of the decisions right. Except of course, for treating De Jong with kid gloves.
DF, I tried to give De Jong the benefit of the doubt but he's not making it easy is he. He made a perfectly fine challenge on Cesc in the first half but he punched Cesc in the gut in the process, it was completely unnecessary.
At the end of the 1st half DeJong took cesc out, nowhere near the ball and jogged away smirking? Him and Van Bommel have perfected Jedi mind tricks.
Very impressive victory, Nasri is turning into a fine player. Glad to see you win tbh aswell as i still think it will be between City and Spurs for 4th.
Yes i noticed that too gronedrome. One would think that the refs would play closer attention to NDJ after his recent exploits but he seems to have come to the only league where his kind of football would find sanction.
A very good win, and helped by the sending off. Arsenal dominated throughout and that was good to see. One pleasing aspect was Fabianksi's keeping, he made some good saves and I really really hope for a few quiet games for him to build his confidence further. He is only one clanger away from going back to square one. Djourou also looked shaky to me, at times. I realise he is 4th choice for us, but if he wants to make an impact, he really needs to sort out his positioning coz he doesnt have the pace to recover.
True about Djourou prits though I think his recovery pace is his best attribute currently. Djourou even kept up with Balotelli in a one on on sprint.
complaints about Djourou are valid, but remember who our 4th choice was the last two seasons... ;-)
In that case, I really fear for Djourou, coz he was outpaced on at least 2-3 occassions.
The icing on the cake wasn't the third goal it was Adebaywhores miss from 6 yards out at the end of the match.
Imagine the assessment of Adebayor from a City fan's point of view. 1) He was making jokes and socialising with opposition players at the half time break - Song even threw Ade's ridiculous headgear away. 2) He was laughing and looked casual while coming on as a sub for Tevez - he did not clap for Tevez as a courtesy or even high 5 him as he came off. 3) He was offside a lot and his finishing was wayward.

In summary his performance was a lot like his final ones when he played for us. He looks like he cant be arsed and will leave City very soon.
Yes, they went down to 10 men, but away from home against another rival, that was still an impressive result and at least we showed more ruthlessness (although they were cutting through us too easily in the first half). Perhaps Djourou should be given some leeway as he must be feeling his way back to match sharpness after his prolonged break and limited first-team appearances. But we can see what a difference having Cesc being on the pitch makes to our side.
Last night, a Cameroonian man with ridiculous hair made me jump like an ecstatic teenager around my living room. I think strongest performance of the season, though Djourou was quite dodgy on more then one occasion.
And without having his best game (no to say he was poor) Cesc's presence in itself is an absolute asset.
HY you feelin unwell. 10 men for 85 minutes, of course u would expect 3 points,
agree with iceman. i think players like de jong, want to go out an kick players an hope to get away with it an be in the limelight
we schooled them to but could not feckin score
'Even with 11 men Arsenal were nothing to rave about today. ANY team that gets a man sent off would struggle to get a point, even at home. Any team! Look at the history of football. The only way arsenal can beat a top team in the past 3years in the league is when the other team has a man sent off. Otherwise they get bullied and beat, as usual. Well congratulations to them! I await their annual "fall out the league race" at February and the open top bus parade to celebrate their financial results for the year.' (S Mansour, Vital Manchester City)
Tony Rocky Horror
Personally, I thought it was a pish-poor game that S..hitty threw away by clumsily getting a defender sent-off, buffoons. Besides, Gareth Bale on his own makes these teams look totally sheyate. COYS!!! COYS!!COYS!!!
Tony Rocky Horror
And TRH has hit a new low. Even by his own standards, this an impressively poor effort.
Gareth Bale? 1 hattrick and he's suddenly the worlds greatest player? He was so average against Everton, but i suppose any glimmer of light is good for you guys. Gareth Bale, or Cesc Fabregas? ...Not a hard choice, is it?
If Boyata doesn't take Chamakh out, he's through on goal and probably scores. So basically, if we're not a man up after 5 minutes, we're a goal up. It has to be one of the two. We worked the sending off because we created a clear goalscoring opportunity in the opening minutes. So to suggest our one man advantage was somehow serendipitous is ludicrous really.

Exactly LD. people who are saying crap like that are either pundits with an axe to grind or some city and spurs fans who are clutching at straws.
Exactly LD ..... and even though the sending off was very early in the game, it wasn't even the first time we split their defence for a one on one .... just the lino got it wrong. City are a much better team than they were .... but so are we. Slowly but surely we're getting there, and it's usually the team who peaks later in the season who goes on to win it over the one who blasts out of the traps. We've now played Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City already this season and we're sitting in 2nd place ..... we've also won at Blackburn, a ground that offers little in the way of points for most teams ... we've got to be considered Chelsea's main rivals as it stands .... and with van Persie and our two main centre backs still to return, as well as Rambo coming back and Theo and Bendtner looking to regain form after injury ... our squad is looking very very strong.
LD do you get involved in what seems to be the customary beer soaking at away games, where 30-50 young arsenal fans go mad in the middle of the downsatairs floor area bouncing up and down with beers spalshing anyone in a near range. Everyone then just seems to then toss there beers in the middle. I enjoy the togetherness but stand back while keeping mostly dry thinking what a waste of brew
Paul - Next time don't bother buying a beer and just stand in the middle with your tongue hanging out .... free beer!!
No I don't, I had a beer down in the concourse yesterday, but usually avoid that sort of wasteage. Was in the upper tier yesterday and didn't see that ritual performed up there on this occasion.
Little Dutch
touch wood Rocky, Im just afraid you jinxed them with taht second last post. :(
Maybe Rocky. I will take my raincoat and wellies too
It's worth pointing out that we've played 3 of the tougher away games already this season and we've played more away games than those around us apart from ManU. It's going to be a tight season but we are a stronger side than we have been.
Certainly Amos - Most away games are obviously pretty tough, but out of the games that are not particularly nice to watch because of the nerves they bring, we've only OT and WHL left to visit.
I assume you mean Chelsea, City & Liverpool away. Sunderland & Blackburn away games haven been tricky for a lot of teams in recent years too.
Well played, guys! I saw parts of the match and boy, you guys played really, really well. Pity about the red card, I feel you would've won anyways. But well played, fully deserve this magnificent victory! Not many Citeh fans here, I see?
Weren't Sunderland unbeaten for 12 months at home when we went there?
