draw at best, would be my prediction
Looks a great stadium
great pass from Wilshere
Theooooo beep beep
wow, theo... wow, unbelievable pace
What a break!!! :D
What a pass! What a finish!
The fact that we're playing our backup defensive mids and defenders is painfully obvious
Eastmond is not having the best of games
Why is Eastmond marking their best centre half? Ridiculous organization.
Has there been any mention of whether Denilson or Song will be ready for the weekend?
Awful defending from Clichy, far too casual
Complacent Clichy
Oh come on Gael... how many times have we seen this...?!?!
***** poor defending from Clichy, and unfortunately not a rare sight these days.
That half, in a nutshell, is why we won't win the Champions League under Wenger.
Wyn Mills
Both wing backs are having dreadful games. Eboue has been frankly shocking. They're tearing through our lot on the flanks. Its painful to watch, but sadly predictable.
Wyn Mills
Wenger caused all of our defending players to be injured? Fair point Wyn Mills
Nothing sticking with nik tonight, Clichy? To be expected I'm afraid. There is something here for us if we can just keep the ball better in the final 3rd.
has shaktar got better or are your lads just being crap and what the hell is clichy doing....not looking like le arse at all
Bit of both r62
TP, there's no passion out there. We're playing in third gear and Wenger should be reading the riot act. Sagna has to be better than Eboue, who is hardly tracking back and is caught out of position time and time again. The guy is on a yellow. Sub him. We have seen the same mistake from Clichy many times now. What is Wenger telling him? Nothing by the looks of it. Certainly not clear the ball into row Z. You don't claim to be a top defender and give away possession like that. Its not who is on the field, its what they're doing that I can't understand.
Wyn Mills
Did you have a hard time understanding that when we played them with a full strength side two weeks ago we demolished them? Don't you think if Song, Sagna, and Fabregas were out there things would be a bit different?
iceman i have not seen you lot play so poor since the season began.....and im not trying to be funny....the games almost boring
They might be, but I'm not sure about it. Playing at the tempo we are with the number of sloppy passes. But are you saying that because we have a second string midfield out there its an excuse? Really?
Wyn Mills
rovinella -- I'm not the least bit surprised. I predicted a draw at best as this is the worst side we've put out all season, especially in a place with such ferocious support, this was always going to be a struggle.
WM -- I predicted a draw at best and probably a loss based simply on seeing the starting line-ups, so yes I do think a weakened team is an excuse.
well still time....good luck
Squillaci should have scored that header!
jesus squidy
Until Vela begins to show some aggression in the attacking third, he has no future at this club.
calm down chaps you will still qualify
Loos like they really dont give a damn. :(, And Vela ahead of JET? You got to be kidding me.
I know he's a cult figure and all, but Eboue really doesn't have what it takes to be a serious consistent perfomer.
Clichy's final ball is generally absolutely awful.
Clichy's crossing is awful, that cross for Song's goal on saturday was his first decent cross in ages
Almost forgotten how November felt like, but thanks for the reminder!
no clapping for him this time ;)
Only ourselves to blame for that really. When you're missing the likes of Song, Fabregas, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Arshavin. To leave out further first teamers like Chamakh and Sagna out of choice is just suicidal. Left chasing a match we should never have been chasing due to lack of nous and wherewithall. Appalling from Bendtner and Clichy in particular. A better showing in the 2nd half but zero incision and always looked like we could concede again. Fair play to Shaktar though they played a good game.
It's not the losing, coz you can lose against any team at this level, it's more the way we lose that grates. It always seems the same - loss of focus, complacency etc. Going ahead was paradoxically the worse thing for us coz i'm sure mentally we started thinking we got the first goal, we'll win this now. On the plus side, if we'd drawn this game and away to Partizan, we'd have 2 points instead of the 3 we had at Partizan.
Ugh, "passion" the last bastion argument when one has no idea what to say. Squillaci and Wilshere had very simple chances which they should have scored, we should have been talking about a creditable draw. However, credit to Shakhtar, they defended incredibly well. We lost the game because we succumbed to "bertie big *********" syndrome again, we thought we could stop playing when we went a goal up and thought we had it won. We did that at Newcastle too and got lucky, Shakhtar are a better team than Newcastle. It's disappointing because it's a flaw that has been stuffed down our throats in painful circumstances over the last few seasons and still the penny doesn't drop. Say what you like about Chelsea, but they treat every opponent and every situation the same, which is why theya re "a machine." We go a goal or two up and too often we do the footballing equivalent of snorting so much gear and banging so many strippers, that we forget to write good tunes. Any opposition manager should tell his attack to keep constant pressure on our defenders when their in possession, because they don't apply any intelligence or reading of the situation. It's pass come what may. Most of the time, that's the right thing to do. But sometimes, just sometimes, you do have to just clear your lines. We never do that, which makes us predictable and vulnerable back there. Still, this was the hardest game in the group bereft of several players, we should still win the group so no need for the uber doom and gloom I'm seeing here. I do think we saw why Arshavin is still in the starting line up though, without him, we're not nearly as dangerous in the final third.
Little Dutch
Dreadful showing today; the worst I have seen of our team in a while, Home or Away. Our FBs were inept, Eboue being the worse culprit despite the 2nd goal being due to Clichy's carefree marking. This was a game we could have won comfortably, as even Shakhtar must have expected more from the away side. Yet again, it is in doing those simple things that we have failed. Very disappointed, I am.
Tough luck.
Anyone else hear the bloke laugh at Eboues' silky skills tonight? obviously legendary prowess / cult crapness doesn't translate in Ukranian.
We lost the game because of our failure to do the basics. When you lose top attacking players like Cesc and Arshavin just defend properly and leave with a point ffs. As for Clichy the horrid mistakes he now makes started with an identical brain fart away to man city a couple of seasons ago and he hasn't learnt a thing since.
All that money and physio invested in Eduardo and he puts it to good use by sinking you. Now that's gratitude for you!
Tony Rocky Horror
You weren't hanging around our site yesterday or today? Something wrong with your internet then? :P
Same reason we weren't all on the Monster Raving Loony Party website. Completely irrelevant. But your lot were still hanging round here.

I can't access vital sp*rs whs. I've contacted my service provider who told me I had my bell end filter set on high.
I'm not too fussed. I'm pleased we rested a few big names; frankly Sunday is more important, I'll arrogantly wager we'll brush aside Braga and especially Partizan being at home. We didn't need to risk fielding a full strength side tonight. Tbh, I feared the worst, a draw was gonna be the best we would get - I doubt even with Cesc, Song, Arshavin and van Persie playing we would get another 5-1 like some seemed to be expecting. Having said that we were poor, the fullbacks, as pointed out, were wretched. Eastmond is unfortunately way out of his depth. I don't fancy seeing him in an Arsenal shirt again until he's had a spell on loan in the Championship - I think that'll help him. But I'm not gonna lose sleep over this one: I'd prefer 3 points in the league than 3 in our Champions League group, which, let's face it, we've basically already progressed from. Onwards and upwards, gooners!
You rested key players. Who are you guys playing in the league?
On a pure shallow note, I hate losing to anyone regardless. On a level headed note, like what has been mentioned above, I'm glad key players got a rest for the weekend. Considering the points we have racked up in the CL, the weekends game is a lot more important (as in having key players fit for). You win some you lose some....if I had to choose, these are the games I would choose to lose (when the group is pretty much wrapped up). Still this is no excuse for a lacklustre performance regardless of what team Wenger put out! My point is, I will still sleep easy tonight :)
Except we've been here before haven't we? The argument about key players getting a rest is fine until they fail to turn up and we lose the first game after the european break. I prefer the old dictums of 'one game at a time' and 'winning is infectious'. Carelessly losing a game when we could have come away with convincing qualification is the sort of thing that eats away at self belief and instills complacency. Can't see either Utd or Chelsea being that careless. Sorry, my opinion, for what its worth.
Wyn Mills
And then there's winning the group and avoiding the group winners.
Wyn Mills
LD, I wouldn't discount 'passion'. Its won many a team honours in the past. Its what drove Spain during the world cup. The Invincibles had tons of it. When I look at Bendtner walking off the field just to have someone help him get his boot back on I know something isn't right.
Wyn Mills
LD agree with almost all your comments however I would prefer we kept the winning attitude. A loss on Sunday would be another brick in rucksack when were climbing the mountain. We dont need a defeat as luggage when we play the Toons.
Eduardo is still good enought for Arsenal...2 goals in 2 match against arsenal...thats isn't just luck
The defeat was completely avoidable - an amateur mistake from an experienced defender and an own goal from a rookie. It has dented our momentum but some perspective is required here. The ONLY thing people remember about the group stages after they are finished is which teams qualified. We are still well positioned to do so and had many key players missing today. Bad defeat but we can look forward to qualification nevertheless.
A game by game shifting of one's mood depending on the result is very short sighted. An overall view of the team needs to be taken. Some people change their opinion mid week and every week which is quite regretable as it means 40 different opinions over the course of the season from the same person.
I'm not discounting passion, I'm just saying it's the exact word you hear talksport listeners shouting down the phone after England have lost to a better team, it had nothing to do with our defeat last night whatsoever. Frankly, if we weren't trying, we'd have lost by an awful lot more than 1 goal. Whether we played to a good standard is a point of discussion, but I just find every time a team doesn't win, tabloid readers always grunt about "passion, innit" when it almost always has nowt to do with what's gone wrong.
Little Dutch
I'm with LD on the passion thing. Last night had nothing to do with passion and everything to do with complacency and a lack of professionalism. I think Clichy needs to learn how to be a left back and the first thing a left back should be able to do is defend. He relies on his pace too much and is often caught out of position or trying to win the ball early. And his final ball is absolutely crap. Is it just me but how difficult can it be for a talented professional to improve the weaknesses in his game??
Great week this week.
Real Modric
Speak for yourself Real, these jokers cost me 150 quid on a accy! I even had Barca Copenhagen Draw! lol
Shakhtar away is always tough. Thankfully for you guys, it wasn't a must win game.
