Arsenal At Home To Leeds Utd In 3rd Round

One of my favorite dates in the football calendar is the third round of the FA Cup.

Even though the competition has lost a bit of it's shine since I've become older, fatter and balder, I still get the same excitement when the 3rd round of the FA Cup comes around .... only rivaled really by semi-final weekends.

The structure of the world's oldest cup competition means when the big boys enter the tournament in round 3, absolutely any thing can happen.

This year sees the Gunners take on fallen giants, Leeds United at Ashburton Grove on the weekend of January 8th and 9th.

If my memory serves me correctly the last time we faced Leeds in the FA Cup 3rd round we won 4-1 at Elland Rd.

I can't remember the scorers exactly but I want to say Viduka put Leeds one nil up before goals from Henry, Pires, Edu and Toure saw us safely through to the 4th round.

However my attendance of that match does not guarantee accurate information.

It's by no means easy - they'll be well up for it, but thank ***** it's not yet another away tie at a Premier League side. Should be a tasty game...

For some reason most Leeds fans were wanting this draw especially those of us that are based down south. What do you usually allocate to away fans in the FA Cup? I remember the 4-1 defeat but remember the games in the early 90's when we just carried on having replays, you finally did us at the fourth attempt. You will probably put your reserve side out that will still prpobably give us a hammering as they normally do to the opposition in the cup. With all the london clubs at home I wouldn't be surprised to see this moved to the Sunday.

S_G, We usually win such games easily; I think we have a bit too much for them. A chance for Vela to show us something.....

I remeber those games dazza, I seem to recall a couple of weak Ian Wright goals courtesy of some serioussly flimsy John Lukic goalkeeping.

John Lukic - flimsy, I don't know what you mean!!lol Thanks for that shewore.

Was hoping for a good away tie- Orient or somewhere we've never been. But that hasn't happened to us for eons, so I'll take this. It's winnable but what happened at Old Trafford in the 3rd Round last January should be a warning.

When i was told we had Leeds i got excited at first hoping it was at Elland Road. I know what you mean though, we never get an intersting away game with the exception of perhaps Cardiff at Ninean Park before it closed
