Easily our strongest available 11; should be a very good game. If City choose to defend tight, it will be cagey. I expect an open game, though, which should suit us.
Naijagunner
AW has stuck to his best performing available players this season. Hope we continue playing the pressing game off the ball and pass the ball at speed because De Jong and Barry will try to break up play using all means possible.
Deltaforce
I said it in the forum and I'll say it here .... we've got the strongest squad around, bar none. Look at that bench, it's amazing, and I can't think of one of the starting XI who would deserve to be in their place. That's how good this team is.
Rocky7
The Guardian is reporting that Fabianski suffered a knock in the warm up to the game..
Deltaforce
Sky Sports showed him getting the knock DF, but he shook it off.
Rocky7
Clarence McGee
ajwb
luckers
ajwb
Oooh what a chance!!
GoonerLou
Blistering start.
Deltaforce
Wolves 1 Chelsea 0
gunnerman76
We should be all set for some dodgy lino decisions in our favour in this match, what with Steve Morrow running the lines and all.
Rocky7
You're s****ing me GM76?? Also, Everton 1-0 Spurs.
Rocky7
Everton 1 Spuds 0 with Louis Saha scoring his first goal in 11 months too.
GoonerLou
Everton 1- Spurs 0.
Naijagunner
We just have to make these early chances count soon...
Naijagunner
Thats 3 times we have hit the post already in the first 28 mins. Need a little bit more luck.
Deltaforce
ffs
ajwb
This is not going to be our night.....3 times the woodwork and load of chances. We are gonna pay for the misses.
Armory
Freddie mercury is the linesman
ajwb
Armoury - I don't think so. This doesn't feel like the same Arsenal any more. They don't leave me feeling like they're wasting chances, it feels more like we're piling on the pressure and a goal is inevitable. That Chelsea match changed everything I feel.
Rocky7
It's 1-1 at the Mersyside game.
Naijagunner
We will need to be very patient tonite, you'd feel.
Naijagunner
F'kin Song looks like Abel Xavier ... lol
Rocky7
Great performance, we did everything but find the goal. We made hundreds of millions of pounds worth of players look like a pub team. Lets hope we can keep it up in the second half.
Rocky7
Indeed Rocky, I feel a goal's been coming. Everyone, you know who scored that Wolves goal? Ashley OG Cole! :D
GoonerLou
Unfortunate not to be a goal up at half time. Cant let our intensity slack.
Deltaforce
"Oh Ashley Cole, is a fu ......." ah you know the rest.
Rocky7
The sooner the goal comes, the better. Yeah, Rocky. This team is that good.
Naijagunner
Lou - You upset me, it was Boswinga who scored the own goal :(
Rocky7
RvP's left foot is not back to its best yet. What a miss...
Deltaforce
We need someone to attack the ball in the area. Time for Chamakh for van Persie, and I'll gurantee Walcott get's an assist.
Rocky7
DF, what did you say about RvP's left foot again?
Naijagunner
Lol NG that was quite a strike..when will we get our slice of luck..
Deltaforce
* A good sign...
Naijagunner
Interesting.....never thought I'll see the daY Theo won't be happy about being subbed. A
Naijagunner
Kompany was intentional on RvP there. Very poor play on his part. The game is nearing the point where we start to get tense.
Naijagunner
I think it's time Wenger stopping using Theo as the easy sub three quarters of the way through the game. It's a little cheap in my opinion, the easy way out, and now Theo is a big game player we need him, and he offers much more than Arshavin! *Cue an AA goal*
Rocky7
Have we scored yet ;-)
julieloveshenry4ever
Ah sorry Rocky I was misinformed about the Chelsea OG from the commentator I was listening to. Let down! Now big Nick is getting ready - ahead of Chamakh? Interesting.
GoonerLou
Indeed Naija, I'm not usually the squirmish type but I can't watch. I'm sat here purposely blocking the tv with the screen from my laptop, and just listening to the commentary. This is hell. COME ON ARSENAL!
Rocky7
Come on, move your arses!!
julieloveshenry4ever
Not good all this domination and no goal.
Armory
Julie time to use your magic line!
GoonerLou
Deja vu.City dont want to win
ajwb
Oh wow what a ref, wanting to make a name for himself
ajwb
very bad refereeing that
Armory
Silly stuff from Sagna there, even if too soft for the red cards.
Naijagunner
Ridiculous, just ridiculous decision.
GoonerLou
We just have to stay calm for the remainder of the game now.
Naijagunner
Red nose will be rubbing his hands here;
Naijagunner
Zabaletta did bugger all there. lol. Still, they deserve it just for being the most negative side ever to grace Ashburton Grove.
Rocky7
Everton 2 spuds 1
gunnerman76
If it stays like this...not a bad result chelsea lost and spuds losing...
gunnerman76
Wolves took the 3 points off the chavs. Incredible story. Spurs down too, 2-1.
Naijagunner
Chelsea lost too :D
ajwb
Cracking day for Man utd though....the luck they are getting this season is beyond a joke
gunnerman76
I seriously think Mancini's going to get sacked for playing this kind of football with all the quality in his team. Wonder if Cesc's telling him that right now lol.
GoonerLou
That was the most expensive gold plated bus I have ever seen.
Will-i-am10
Shivering little girls.
Rocky7
What a bunch of bottling tossers. I've never seen anything like that in my life, I've seen lower league teams come here with more ambition than that. 200 million quid for that pathetic abhoration.
Rocky7
We could have as well have played a slightly better Stoke City today. They would have done the same as what this city side did.
Deltaforce
HUGE blue bus parked in front of us tonight.
Wyn Mills
What was Cesc saying to Mancini as they came off? It didn't look like a compliment.
Wyn Mills
200 million and that's all they can do? Had but one of our 1 half chances gone in it would have ended with 3 + goals victory that's how good we were. I'm immensely proud of the team and have no worries for the future if we can keep them fit and fighting.
Armory
I'm not even in the slightest bit angry with our boys or performance. There's only so much you can do, we got unlucky a couple of times and battered them from start to finish. There hasn't been a more expensive wall put up in London since they finished building Wembley.
Rocky7
Agree with you Rocky. At times we needed more presence in the box. Chamakh for RVP might have been the logical switch.
Wyn Mills
They didn't even have a shot on target. F'king joke.
Rocky7
I would not worry to much about manure gaining 2 points on us. We have played far more of our hardest games than them and not every one of the smaller teams is going to do a Stoke and bend over for their master when they play them.
Armory
Absolute rubbish from City, they played for a draw, and their defence was solid enough to get it. That, and a lot of luck with a couple of shots off the woodwork for Arsenal.
prits
Agreed Armory. I'm confident now that we can challenge for this title. We're showing heart, grit and determination where it was missing before. We're tough, and we have more strength in depth than anyone else. I can see us winning this thing.
Rocky7
Don't know Wyn Chamak is not as technically good as RvP and RvP fits better in to the team when we need to pass around our opponents. there is no point in belting high balls into their area as they have big defenders that will deal with the high balls.
Armory
I'm quite happy with the team, thought they tried all they could. Perhaps, a change of tactics could have been warranted from Wenger late on, putting Bendtner in the centre instead of wide left. But thats more from hope than anything else. Arshavin trying a back flick in the 93rd min was a bit annoying, but it was a good performance overall from the team.
prits
And to think they had a "who's going to score the winning goal" poll against us. One word....ARROGENT. To think they nicked a point here and there is a distinct lack of City fans on here.....says it all really.....OUTCLASSED.
gunnerman76
Rocky I agree with you about the quality and desire in this team but winning the PL will require some kind of mini implosion from United which with all the help they already get from the refs may not happen.
Deltaforce
And the spuds and Chelsea both loosing we are not badly off. And if memory serves me right the spuds are playing manure next. We can afford to rest most of our players for next 2 games in the cup's only changing 5 or 6 mind you though not 8!
Armory
Agreed Armoury and Rocky...Man utd have still to play Chelsea TWICE! If we play like this for the rest of the season and no injuries! We really have got a cracking chance of taking it this year....who would of thought I would have said that after losing this many games before Xmas!
gunnerman76
Delta They have to play away still against us, Chelsea, Liverpool and the spuds + they still have to play Chelsea and Man (The bus) city at home.
Armory
We played well but something seems missing. If Theo had stayed on and Bendtner on for Wilshere, would it have chnaged anything?
Arseniger
Arshavin is effing ANNOYING. It makes me feel we need a new player that can interchange with Theo.
Arseniger
This place is just brimming with frustration. :-)
Bluedub
City aren't going for the title their going for top 4 so for them it's a great point. 2 horse race for me now between us and united, if we play like that in 90% of our remaining games we'll go very close.
Iceman10
You seem very happy with the way your team had NO shots on target all game Bluedub. :-)
Deltaforce
So hard man Sagna will be out for Leeds (h), Ipswich (a) and West Ham (a), yes? Ridiculous red card but the timing isn't too bad if this is the case. Those 2 cup games were meant to be Eboue'd anyway.
GoonerLou
Bluedud....And your place is just brimming with the realisation of how far away you are of actually winning the title. So coming on here trying to hide behind your bravado wont cut it mate.....I know how you really feel. A bit like me after watching Arsenal scrap a point at home to Barca last season....yes it was satisfying getting the point, but deep down my gut churned with pain, realising how far behind Barca we actually were. That's why my mouth is watering at the prospect of finding out how far we have come since last year......Maybe you will feel like that next year hey ;)
gunnerman76
Ironic that we were all praising Sagna's reaction to the Bowyer thuggery only a few days ago & now he gets himself sent off in response to a nothing challenge. Can't wait to hear what Pulis & co have to say about the latest addition to our red card collection.
foochan
You are right Goonerlou; didn't see it from that point. Only thing is we won't have the luxury of having a strong sub (Sagna for Eboue) if things turn awry and the calvary is needed. Still, okay timing.
Naijagunner
City aren't really going for the title, but they've every right to play however they wish so long as they are within the rules of the game, which they were. Cast your minds back to our CWC win in 94, Torino away, PSG away. Didn't play any differently to how Citeh did tonight. Can't fault our performance, but we should have punished them in the first 15.
Little Dutch
With the number of times we hit the woodworks, you sensed it was going to be one of those days, didn't you?
Naijagunner
Clinicality is key something you unfortunately lacked. Tough luck, you deserved the win.
TheFamousNo7
Points aside...we have torn shreds out of two "title challengers" in recent weeks. Is it a coincidence that bar the Verminator, that is our strongest side and bench!?? We haven't had that for what seems an eternity. Our team has great balance now everyone is back....and Ive noticed the work rate off the ball has gone up 10 gears! That is the key for me.....Nasri and Fab work for each other pressing off the ball and the rest of the team seem to follow! Its certainly going to be an interesting season. And Man U have got some HARD games to come, not to mention a wounded Chelsea TWICE! If we keep up this work rate...were looking good for it that's for sure.
gunnerman76
City saw you coming and walked away with the point. You'll pay for your impotence in front of goal. You're still miles and miles off, don't kid yourselves.
Tony Rocky Horror
and your even further behind.
paul_ownz
Sa-ha-ha-ha, ur funny Super troll. Is Sir Twitch planning to play Beckham at left back, might want to consider it after Eek-ottos performance. Didn't City come and get a point at the lane in similar fashion?
Iceman10
Kiss and tell on Mancini in next weeks news of the world. Apparently he paid a high class hooker 2million over a 2 year period, she says he would invite her up to the room telling her about all the things he would do to her then when they got there he just got her to stand in front of him naked while he just stared at her for hours on end without even blinking.
Iceman10
Our impotence in front of goal is plus 20 at the moment to your measly 6....for gods sake Bolton are plus 5! I will put it simple for you troll boy. Man utd have scored 43 goals...we have scored 42. Good luck against utd by the way....we will all be cheering for you.... Jog on now ;)
gunnerman76
LD - You're right, they are within their rights to play like that, and every person who loves football is within their rights to call out their complete lack of ambition. Very poor showing from a team costing so much. We might get beat in games far too much, but we never hide, we always try and play football.
Rocky7
LOL iceman
gunnerman76
Hear hear Rocky!
gunnerman76
arsenal could have played the game without a goal keeper, and still keep a clean sheet
49ers
'We always try to play football'. Other than what, netball? That's going into Colemanballs.
Tony Rocky Horror
Strange feeling wanting Arsenal to win tonight, you were unlucky they were an absolute disgrace. Exactly the same at White Hart Lane first game of the season, we absolutley battered them and they parked the bus (And Rode their luck)
HuddersfieldYiddo
I thought we would not hear from Troll Rocky Horror after his team got stuffed up at goodison. I was wrong.
Will-i-am10
Like I say, I don't think we can deride Citeh for their tactics as they were within the rules and the spirit of the game. If they think a point is a good result, that's their prerogative. Arsenal spent a large slab of the mid 90s playing in a similar fashion. The only time I'll criticise a team's tactics is in the instance that someone like Birmingham or stoke routinely break the rules and try to kick players. Citeh wanted a point, we wanted 3, that was our prerogative. We can't criticise City for going for what they deem to be a good result, anymore than they could deride us for going for the result we were after. It does rather put paid to any aura Citeh might have as title challengers, but I don't think they're really going for that. They want to ensure top 4 because they know that once they smash that glass ceiling, then the fun really begins.
Little Dutch
Fair play LD, I think you have it summed up well there. Gunnerman, deep down I'm extremely happy, not at last nights performance or the result for that matter, it wasn't all that long ago I was watching my team play in the third tier of English football, now I see us 2nd in the Premier league, improving at a rapid rate and well on course to achieve a CL spot for next year.
Bluedub
The weird thing was that even when they had a free-kick just inside our half, they weren't even trying to put a cross in to nick a goal and instead playing it back. I really don't believe United are a better side than us and it's all to play for - as long as we keep up this level of work off the ball.
Gooner_Vin
City can only get stronger signing players like Dzeko. Then their challenge will be in moulding the team into a cohesive unit. What they did show us last night was the importance of defence. As Kolo so rightly said, attack will win you matches but defences win titles. You have to say he has a point.
Wyn Mills
Statistically the team with the best attacking record is more likely to win the title than one with the best defence. You can't win the title simply by not conceding. If we're honest we would be happy with an away point against any of the teams in the top four/five so there's little to criticise Citeh for in that objective. They didn't think they could win at the Emirates so they didn't try. It's a very Italian mentality. Playing the percentages has its limitations but it should be enough for a top four finish.
Amos.
I think that's the moral high ground you've got covered there LD, but I don't think we always need to go that route, I think having had my team slated for a large portion of my football supporting life, that it's only right and proper to give it back when needed. The difference being back than football was all about defence, and our squad cost significantly less than this City one. For me, a good part of football is about having sly digs and banter with rival fans (it doesn't always have to be logical), and City spending that much on a team to do what they did last night is laughable .... so I'm going to laugh.
