via Ladyarse: Chris Foy, from Liverpool, has been in charge of 3 Arsenal matches this season. He has booked no Arsenal players and we won all three. He has officiated 5 United matches, booking 9 players and United have only won 3 and drawn the other two.
gunnerkid107
Is Clichy injured?
Sajit
I don't believe so. I think Wenger is giving Gibbs a chance in the Cup.
gunnerkid107
7 defenders in United's starting XI!
gunnerkid107
A bit weird Utd's starting XI to say the least... COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!! *goes out in the middle of the night to watch the game*
GoonerLou
So this is going to be our first major game of the season where the officials don't play for the opposition???? I'll have to see it to believe it
lifeisagooner
Its *****ed up if Wenger thinks he can get away with it by fielding a weakened team.
Sajit
You can't call 7 defenders a bus. It's a MegaBus.
gunnerkid107
It's a big Boeing 747 parked in front of their goal.
Eboue=GOD
We still have to break them down, we still have to not concede from a set play, we still have to not get caught on the break. Regardless of the United 11 we still have to produce a quality performace to get anything out of the game. That United 11 is better than the Brum team we lost to at Wembley.
iceman10
Valencia is on the bench for United today. Welcome back to football! Good luck on the rest of your recovery.
gunnerkid107
If B52 Bomber is on the bench, he might be useful in gunning down that Boeing.
Eboue=GOD
Diaby + Denilson + Gibson + O shea.... how horrible a central midfield is that
Sajit
United is playing the conservative 7-1-1-1 formation. I thought they were an attacking team?
elbondo
Sajit, I assume you meant to say how can Fergie get away with it by fielding a weakened team? With our injuries, only Gibbs isn't first choice.
elbondo
Correction to my earlier lineup. Ramsey is on the bench instead of Bendtner.
gunnerkid107
pretty dodgy looking defense by arse on that manure goal.
spurs in brasil
what's up with gooner nation? nobody on line during a major match against manure? you guys too dispirited after the recent disappointments?
spurs in brasil
united never seem like they have to play particularly well against us. hope we up our game a bit in the second half.
foochan
We need to put more pressure on this ManU defense; they look unsure and with equally fragile disposition, any 'misfortune' and they will be there for the taking. I don't see an impact sub on the bench but feel the lads on show are good enough to win this.
Naijagunner
Will somebody tell the players to shoot and not keep passing on the edge of the area. Decent first half. Loads of possession. Just lacking a bit of cutting edge. Hopefully we'll find it in the 2nd half and create some more chances and stick one or two in. UTA
Eboue=GOD
uh oh. 2 - nil, so long f.a. cup?
spurs in brasil
Seriously....why rest Clichy for OT of all places?
Armory
United could ve 7 defenders. They are playing as if they got 4-3-3. Fabio & Rafael are simply ripping apart. Arsenal midfield giving away balls too many times. 2-0 down. If Arsenal dont lookout, another counter attacking goal is on the way. Btw, VanderSar is too good.
sydqcb5
Team being outclassed. Wenger being outcoached.
gunnerkid107
FFS We are being outclassed and doe's the **** use the subs? No he'll wait until 3 nil at 75 min. arshole.
Armory
I said after the Barca game that the defense did not need tinkering and Ill stand by that in fact it was the best performing unit on the night and what does he do? Yes he tinkers with it by using a young and inexperienced left back. Stupid really.
Armory
I'll take that back its 2 nil and 71 min.
Armory
good to see Ramsey well enough to play again.
spurs in brasil
It is, spud in brine, it is.
Armory
Is that supposed to be sarcastic, you Spud? And what are you doing trolling about on our site if you aren't an Arsenal fan. Even when Blackpool and Leeds are tonking you lot, I don't go on your site.
julieloveshenry4ever
Almunia has done well though that last save was vital.
Armory
what would you call 11 players, behind the ball a double decker, groundhog year again
123spurs
last thing arsenic needs is another defensive injury. hard luck, lads. defence has been your achilles heal the past few weeks.
spurs in brasil
***** and now JD looks seriously injured.
Armory
Cant see Johan back this season if its his shoulder
ajwb
As much as I despise Spuds- I'd never laugh at one of your players getting injured. You people are the lowest of the low.
julieloveshenry4ever
As a matter of fact spud in brine the defence has been our best unit. Whitch defence has let in more goals Arsenals or spuds?
Armory
@julieloveshenry4ever, i wasn't being sarcastic about ramsey. i am glad he's well enough to play again. his injury was horrible and resulted from a terrible tackle. I like to see arsenal lose, but i never like to see a human being injured like that. i hope he's fully recovered and can have a productive career. i'm also sad to see the lastest injury on kangaroo. it's the last thing your club needs in the middle of a terrible losing streak. I'm happy you're losing, but I'd never wish any injury to one of your players.
spurs in brasil
it's too bad that the atmosphere between supporters of our two clubs is so sour that you cannot take my expression of sympathy at face value. It wasn't meant to be snarky.
spurs in brasil
who are spurs playing this weekend?
49ers
@49ers, spurs resting this weekend after winning their CL competition with Milan. Some English team won in the round of 16. Others didn't.
spurs in brasil
someone got a slap in the face...
sydqcb5
No speed to our attack. Utd know how to counter attack against superior opposition.
Wyn Mills
Frustrating. Not good enough. Again.
gunnerkid107
Wyn Mills, u mean superior opposition like chesea, liverpool, spurs etc.... comeon man, manunited deserved to win. give it to them. dont be like your manager, giving excuses. I woder whats wenger's excuse for today.
sydqcb5
Sideways passes. No urgency. The team just did not want the win enough. Same old problem again. We need our big guns in Fabregas Walcott. With them at least we have got a chance to ge tin behind their defence. Man United are just happy to sit back and let us pass the ball in front of them. There's nobody wanting to make the bursting run from midfield. Nobody getting into the box and busting their guts to meet a cross. I must admit Rosicky was the only one who looked like he could penetrate with his forward running and Sagna's crosses were wonderful but there was no one on the end again. It's the same old problem that Arsene tends to overlook sometimes.
Eboue=GOD
carling cup gone, CL gone, and F.A. cup gone, all in quick succession. Those are things I enjoyed. Arsenal players injured, those are things I didn't enjoy. I'm disappointed to be accused of enjoying injuries to your players. I've never laughed at an injury to any player from any team. I hope julieloveshenry4ever takes note. as to the result of today's match: great fun!
spurs in brasil
I'm gonna make this short and sweet. 1) I cant blame the players as they gave their all 2) Again Wenger showed he simply cant out think Ferguson with the set of players he has. 3) Supporters seriously need to stop having a go at players when they perform badly, it is the last thing they need. 4) If the player is a serial offender(under performing) have a go at Wenger he selects the team. 5) I actually think our defense is bloody good its what is in front of it that is the problem. 5) IMHO all we need at the moment, apart from players back from injury, is 20+ a season striker that stays fit.
Armory
today's match a clear case of wenger being out coached.
spurs in brasil
Great to see Ramsey back. Welcome back to the football world, lad. Glad your career wasn't ended that horrific night so long ago, though I suspect it will be many weeks yet before you fully recover. On a surer note, Djourou gone, meaning an increasingly likely chance that Squillaci will resume his blunderings at the centre of your defence.
DubaiSpur
They sat back and did us on the counter-attack. Evra and Brown never got forward once. We knew it was going to be like this but we didn't do anything about it. Let's focus on the league.
gronedrone
the team certainly owes the fans something now. i can't really understand how this side consistently bottles it as there is alot of quality in this squad. looks like we've traded djourou for ramsey, imagine that'll be his season over.
foochan
I really hate this part of the season, only because we pick up injuries to vital players every game it seems. Almunia was our best player.
gronedrone
I Second what DubaiSpur wrote. It is great to see Ramsey back. Best of luck to the young man to make a full recovery, although I hope it is with a losing Arsenal club.
spurs in brasil
sydqcb5, We pinned Utd back in their half for much of the early part of the game. We're a better footballing team. Its just that Utd know how to attack with pace on the flanks and don't dilly dally in front of goal. Not saying they didn't deserve their victory, just that they beat a better side in the end. Its what we should have done against Barcelona.
Wyn Mills
Djourou is a massive loss for us if his injury is serious. It looked that way. It never rains...
Wyn Mills
Armory we did not offer enough on the attacking front. There was no urgency to our game at all. We were just content to pass it in front of their defence and they were content to let us have it and attack on the break which they did quite succesfully. I've seen plenty of bad performances from our team in the past and maybe their cumulative effect is clouding my opinion a bit. But I do think we didn't give our all in this game on the attacking front.
Eboue=GOD
I won't hold my breath waiting, but where's my apology from julielovesthierry4ever?
spurs in brasil
We need our first team. We need Walcott, Fabregas, Song back.
Eboue=GOD
To be fair, Van Der Sar did have a good game and kept United in the game, really. Sagna has been accused of not being good at crossing; today, he sent in cross after cross with very little end result from our striking department. There was something missing in the side today which I just couldn't put a finger on. The Manager has to find out what it is and bring it back or we'll have players like Wilshere infected by this apparent acceptance of mediocrity.
Naijagunner
Quadruple? Couldn't even beat United reserves!
jackstan
Same old, same old. Utd sit back and score on the break. It will happen at the Emirates as well. Well beaten by the midfield artistry of O'Shea and Gibson. We'll be lucky to finish second in the Prem.
Sir Henry
Wyn Mills, as you guys said, united went with 7 defenders. Obviously if that is their strategy they will sit back, obviously only way they can score is by counter attacking. That is exactly what they did. So, old fox put a team to do a job and they did a job to perfection. Just because United sat back and Arsenal were given space for wave after wave of attack doesnt mean, Arsenal were superior side. But then Arsenalhad their chances, unfortunately for them, VanderSar had a unbelievable game and Arsenal too missed some sitters like Rosicky did. And by the way, Rosicky & Denilson wont even make the bench for most top teams, I dont know why they are still there. Anyway, I pray for Djouro to be back soon. Funnier times ahead with Squallaci & Aluminia at the back.
sydqcb5
To be fair, you've been knocked out of 3 competitions in 2 weeks and deservedly so!
jackstan
We did create enough but as Naija says there was something missing today. You could feel it. You always had the feeling that we couldn't score. There was no urgency. We could have moved the ball a lot quicker. Instead we are playing one-twos in our own half. What's the point? And how Denilson can be considered a holding midfielder by Arsene is beyond my scope of thought. Alright he's a decent player but certainly not suited to the holding role at all.
Eboue=GOD
The trolling seems to be falling on deaf ears. Try harder guys, where's TRH?
gronedrone
The Ides of March strike again
Eboue=GOD
Loud mouth Gooners are hurting, the rest are smirking!
jackstan
Something missing? Committed players running into the box perhaps? Chamakh had a chance or two, but too often some of our players treat the 6 yard box as a no-go zone. Once again Jack had an excellent match, more than once shoving Rooney off the ball. He's solid carat gold captain material and encapsulates the attitude I hope we can cultivate in the team.
Wyn Mills
SAF imitated the strategy Mourinho used to beat Barca in CL last year. It worked then and it worked now. The trouble with Wenger is that he's a Johnny One Note on tactics. The old professor isn't able to change tactics on the fly. @sydqcb5, how's the autumn weather in New South Wales?
spurs in brasil
Quadruple? Couldn't even beat United reserves!
jackstan
syd I think what Wyn means is that we are by far the better team in terms of quality. But when it comes to the crunch Man United can easily get one over us if needed.
Eboue=GOD
It begs the question if we had put a Lansbury in the team would he have performed given more in this game than Denilson?? Certainly. 100% sure that he would have chased down every single blade of grass if required. That's what we need from players like Denilson and Diaby who sometimes think they can waltz through the game without harrying and hustling for the ball.
Eboue=GOD
Absolutely Jack had a great game but the thing is that he's inhibited right now by Denilson and Diaby and he needs to get back to defend. Also when Fabregas plays he needs to sit as well. I would like to see Jack given much more of a free role in which he can express himself. Kudos to the lad. He's been excellent and one of the shining beacons of this season.
Eboue=GOD
sydqcb5, I think Utd going with 7 defenders shows just how much Red Nose knows his team cannot compete in pure football terms. It was always going to be breakaway goals that won it for Utd. In trying to push forward to equalise we lost our shape.
Wyn Mills
Wyn Mills, whats your point. United didnt have their first choice midfield. So, they went for their reserves. I would simply say SAF outhink Wenger and he couldnt respond. If you are playing beautiful football, why did you park the bus against Barca or if you are playing beautiful football, where is the trohy. It seems professor has brained washed you all. I mean, please dont say such things just to give a counter argument. End of the day, United were tactically better and executd their plans. Arsenal simply couldnt take their chances and respond.
sydqcb5
Eboue=GOD, I am sorry. If Denilson, Rosicky, Gibbs are quality I am sorry Wengers magic is going down. Gibbs didnt win a single header against Fabio and was always second on the ball. There were 3 players inArsenal team who gave everything Wilshere,Nasri,RVP. Also Djouro & Koschelny generally had a good game. Simply today's failure is mainly due to Wenger's incapability of outhinking SAF. Having said that United didnt have their first choice midfield. Anyway, players coud be quality, end of the day what matters is a winning scoreline.
sydqcb5
Agree Jack must be frustrated by playing with Diaby and Denilson. I would be.
Wyn Mills
In pure football terms, Man U was the better team today. They scored two goals and Arsenic scored none. It's goals that count, in pure football terms.
spurs in brasil
Eboue=God I agree it is the attack letting us down not the defense. If a team that has the majority of possession and never looks like scoring the opposite defense/midfield is quite happy sitting back, allowing us possession and then hitting on counter. If on the other hand there is a goal thread with the possession then mistakes will start to occure and goals will come.
Armory
Anyway guys, all the best for your PL title chase. I am out now.
sydqcb5
Aresnal's problems have been at both ends of the pitch. A new record set for failure to win after having a four goal lead in premier league match. A new record set in failing to get a single shot on goal in a CL match. Both the defense and the offense have let you down recently. They seem to be alternating in finding new record levels of futility.
spurs in brasil
New levels of futility were achieved by you when you got pumped by Fulham in the cup.
Eboue=GOD
My point is exactly that, sydqcb5. Good tactics can often outmanoeuvre skill.
Wyn Mills
Djorou out for the rest of the season. 10 games, Squillacci and Koscielny it is then.
gronedrone
Our only hope is for Vermalen to come back at some point. I don't see us winning the title with Squid and Kos at the back.
Wyn Mills
Hopefully Vermaelen comes back in towards the end. We need him and Fabregas and Walcott and Song and everyone fit and firing on all cylinders if we have to do this. In a sense we will have lesser injuries now that we only have 10 games. So bring 'em on.
Eboue=GOD
I honestly didn't expect much creativity with both Diaby and Denilson in midfield and with 7 defensive players to break down. But their counter-attacks were so dangerous and it's obvious that we needed something special like Ramsey's passing and/or Eboue's running at players. At first I questioned the starting line-up, then I questioned part of the subs. It's a double-decker in front of us and we clearly needed a little bit more to break it down. That said, given all these factors, we did create just about enough to try and win the game. We lacked just a bit of sharpness in finishing but EvdS played fantastically well for them yet again. Utd's efficiency with their breaks makes them worthy winners.
GoonerLou
Our thumping by Fulham was the low point of the year for us, no doubt. But your pointing that out doesn't mitigate the profound nature of the two failures I mentioned above. Losing to Fulham hurt, but it wasn't a record setting failure, as were the two items I mentioned. No team in the history of the EPL failed to win a match after having a four goal lead. You did it this year. No team in CL hisotry failed to get at least one shot on goal during a match. Your did it this past week. Our atrocious loss against Fulham, which led to more than 1000 comments on VitalSpurs, failed to match the level of these two matches by Arsenic in the record setting nature of the historical failures. The fact that both of these record setting events happened so close to one another in the same season ought to alert you to the profound problems facing your club--both in defense and in offense. Wenger has sold you a bill of goods, I'm afraid.
spurs in brasil
Spurs in brasil, there's one particular historic record you forgot to mention: going the season undefeated. We're second in the league and will probably be in the Champions League yet again next year. If we have problems then I hate to think how deep in cr@p your club is.
Wyn Mills
Guy just ignore this Spuds twit, he's looking for attention. He's not getting enough at Vital spuds so he came over here and commented a billion times. Sad *****.
gronedrone
.....Our thumping by Fulham was the low point of the year for us....yeah...until we were spanked by blackpool.
SpudsRus
OK. So you've got to go back a few years to find something to balance the latest record setting failures. That's OK. I'm sure it makes you able to forget the nature of the recent problems. Anyway, I've enjoyed spending time with you all. I'm off to other things. I'm thinking of trying out my Italian on a Milan chat site. It's a rainy day where I am.
spurs in brasil
not sure what was more fun, the CC Cup final, Barca's spanking or tonights match.... Na they're all trumped by our 3-2 smash up in your backyard
mattspurs1982
Well, since you mention it Wyn, Diaby typifies all that was wrong today. No committment in running into the box or on the counter; even worse defending. He could have done better covering for Arshavin at left midfield, for the 2nd goal, but chose to stroll back slowly leaving Gibbs and Kos in a quandry. I think we should just return to our strongest midfield of Song, Wilshere and Cesc, as soon as injuries allow.
Naijagunner
Wyn, of course I was reacting there to your earlier post on "what was missing".
Naijagunner
(still think you could easily win the league when ur players are all back & fit tho)
mattspurs1982
Pathetic. That's all that can be said. Totally and utterly pathetic.

spurs in brasil, inter didnt get a shot on goal last year at the nou camp,
49ers
Naijagunner, I honestly don't like singling out players but when you get Diaby not bothering to get back into midfield from a forward position and thereby being offside for the next attack I sometimes wonder where our player's heads are at. All positional sense seems to go out of the window sometimes.
Wyn Mills
Arsenal are well ***** lol.
jackstan
@gronedrone, who wrote that I've logged on here because I'm looking for attention. Wrong, I just want to wind you up. @ 49ers, who wrote that Inter also had not shots on goal against Barca two years ago in CL. I looked it up, and you're right. I'm sure all gooners feel better knowing that you're not totally alone in such ineptitude. @julialovestheirry4ever, I'm still waiting for your apology for claiming I laugh at seriously injured Arsenal players.

Lets all laugh at Arsenal and their self righteous 'our club is run better than yours' fans HA HA HA. You have the highest ticket prices in world football and u win nothing!
jackstan
it is time for wenger to ask himself some serious questions. it is also time for the fans to ask him those questions. we will finish empty handed this season that's for sure. we have lost 6 times in our last 7 travels to OT and lost 8 games, drew 2 in the last 11 against mu. obviously, saf knows exactly how to play us just like mourinho who never lost a game against wenger. now even teams like birmingham & sunderland know how to play us. i think it is very obvious how we can be exploited. just sit back, let us have those sieway passing & hit us on counter attack or set piece. simple. except for barca who can beat us in a different way, the mentioned strategy works most of the time for the last 6 years. our rivals know, the fans know, only wenger doesnt

Sad for you guys... I think its going to be next year when your players will be more mature.. Though some of the players are getting old enough to be sold for serious clubs.. Arsene, i think will stay as he has got his 2 million bonus for getting into the champions league and the directors also have shared good profit among themselves.. So jealous of such a profit making club by the way..
danish chelsea
11ledleykings' post is laughable. "hahaha no trophys left to play". "spurs will pass u out b4 end of season did u like that ac milan and spurs games". Makes loads of sense gramatically.
Eboue=GOD
The fact remains that our lowest point as a club in the last 5 years - ie. 4th in the PL and 4th round in the CL is pretty much the zenith of Spuds achievements. Harry is the messiah for delivering CL football, what a joke of a small club.
Deltaforce
They are obsessed with being better than us. Typical small club mentality.
