Pearce's Argument Proves Wenger's Point

Pearce's Argument Proves Wenger's Point

After Stuart Pearce decided to take Jack Wilshere to this summer`s international Under 21`s tournament, he took a swipe at Arsenal`s Arsene Wenger, claiming he`s the only manager who moans about one of his players going to an Under 21`s tournament.

Stuart Pearce states Arsene wenger`s complaints regarding the burning out of his rising star are unfounded after the same complaint from the Frenchman two years ago that an Under 21`s tournament for Theo Walcott would see him without a break for more than 3 years was redundant after Theo was not even selected for the World Cup squad.

Pearce said "'Over a four-year period, I have only ever heard Arsene Wenger's name mentioned in respect to this. Two years ago, I had the same conversation about Theo Walcott and 'Did he need to go an Under-21 tournament?'

'The proviso was then that there was a World Cup coming up in South Africa and he would be burnt out. Then Theo didn't make the squad for South Africa.'

Pearce`s theory is fine accept for one vital flaw, the fact he was taken to the tournament was detrimental to his recovery so much so that he wasn`t able to complete a proper preseason and as such never really got going and suffered from reoccurring injury through out the season.

On top of all this Fabio Cappello still admitted it was a mistake not to take Walcott to the world cup in South Africa.

When browsing the provisional squad that Pearce has chosen for the tournament one thing was clear and that was that it was doubtful that the entire squad had completed as many top flight games COMBINED as Wilshere has played for Arsenal this season.

There`s also little doubt that Jack will be part of the European Championship squad next summer, leaving him with 3 seasons without a break. With the amount of league, cup, champions league and International games he will play during that time (probably close to 200 games) what are the chances that Wilshere won`t struggle with injury because he has been unnecessarily burnout?

A quite stunning quote from Pearce there. "Theo didn't go to the World Cup." Exactly. Pearce strikes me as a nice enough guy but, unfortunately, he also strikes me as being as thick as pig *****.

This is the most selfish thing someone can do! Wilshere is already the most exciting player in the first Team in England. There is absolutely no reason he should be involved. let him rest! This is Pearce hoping for a victory and a look in at the first team job. compare him with Gary speed when it came to calling up Aaron Ramsey. He doesn't care about his players just his career. C**t of a man!!!

Pearce is just desperate to put something half decent on his CV by winning the competition. What benefit does Jack get by going to this tournament? Its like sticking him in our reserves so we can win the reserve league, whats the point? People who mention the German u21's miss the point that the players did not flip flop between the full squad and the u21's plus add the fact Germany has a winter break. Completely selfish decision by Pearce and what is that idiot Capello doing not overruling him?

Capello can overrule Pearce so easily. I remember the World cup games when Capello treated Pearce like ****, telling him to sit and stand when he wanted to. It was quite hilarious at the time. Pearce is another football bureaucrat who has followed the Peter Principle by rising to his level of incompetence. Sad that the future of Wilshere is partly linked to the whims of a very ordinary manager like Pearce.

I'm not English but I'd like to see England do well for the good of the sport and it's sad that the FA have such a fragile connection to footballing reality that they allow this to happen, and as a result compromise player development/recovery and therefore first team results in the (very near) future.

Make them stop saying 'the player decides' - no he doesn't, its an under-21 team, let the adults decide based on experience and education what is best for a player

If Jack is injured/burned out for Euro 2012 after playing over 200 games, Pearce, Capello & the FA have no one but themselves to blame.

Its inevitable that Wilshere will suffer for this, at some time, like Theo did. I don't expect anything better from *****wits like Pearce, but why is Theo not talking to Jack, telling him it was a mistake to play in this tournament, given his personal experience?

Of course it is completely mad what Pearce is trying to do, but I don't think that Jack himself is helping the situation with the public statements that he wants to go, which can only assist Pearce's stance. His use of Theo as an example is quite stunningly stupid as LD points out. Start a "Free Jack Wilshere this summer" campaign at the next home game!

We shouldn't count too much on Jack next season. Theo's experience was a complete disaster. He never got going in that season and ended up sitting the world cup. Serves him right. Even Cesc looks burnt out after taking no rest over the past 3 seasons. I suspect Jack will learn the hard way that you need to manage your body early on a la Ryan Giggs.
