After Stuart Pearce decided to take Jack Wilshere to this summer`s international Under 21`s tournament, he took a swipe at Arsenal`s Arsene Wenger, claiming he`s the only manager who moans about one of his players going to an Under 21`s tournament.
Stuart Pearce states Arsene wenger`s complaints regarding the burning out of his rising star are unfounded after the same complaint from the Frenchman two years ago that an Under 21`s tournament for Theo Walcott would see him without a break for more than 3 years was redundant after Theo was not even selected for the World Cup squad.
Pearce said "'Over a four-year period, I have only ever heard Arsene Wenger's name mentioned in respect to this. Two years ago, I had the same conversation about Theo Walcott and 'Did he need to go an Under-21 tournament?'
'The proviso was then that there was a World Cup coming up in South Africa and he would be burnt out. Then Theo didn't make the squad for South Africa.'
Pearce`s theory is fine accept for one vital flaw, the fact he was taken to the tournament was detrimental to his recovery so much so that he wasn`t able to complete a proper preseason and as such never really got going and suffered from reoccurring injury through out the season.
On top of all this Fabio Cappello still admitted it was a mistake not to take Walcott to the world cup in South Africa.
When browsing the provisional squad that Pearce has chosen for the tournament one thing was clear and that was that it was doubtful that the entire squad had completed as many top flight games COMBINED as Wilshere has played for Arsenal this season.
There`s also little doubt that Jack will be part of the European Championship squad next summer, leaving him with 3 seasons without a break. With the amount of league, cup, champions league and International games he will play during that time (probably close to 200 games) what are the chances that Wilshere won`t struggle with injury because he has been unnecessarily burnout?
