Gunners Handed A Tricky Start To The Season

Today is a day that has football fans all over the country glued to tv sets and websites in anticipation of our first taste of the new season with the release of the fixtures for the upcoming campaign.

Despite the fact that the tight fisted gits at the EPL and others organisations put a block on anyone publishing a full set of fixtures without stumping up a substantial wedge of cash, we are allowed to have a look of some of the more important fixtures.

It`s probably safe to assume, that at this time of day most of you have already seen the fixtures in full, so will already know what a positively wretched start to the season we`ve got.

Newcastle away on the opening day will be an instant opening of old wounds from last season as we revisit the site of our record breaking 4-4 draw with the barcodes in the 2010/11 season.

The following two games will be at home to the Scousers followed by a trip to the Champions, Manchester United. It`s like someone wants us to struggle huh? Still, everyone has to play everyone, so if we can get off to a good start it will put us in good stead.

We don`t have to wait long till the first North London derby of the season with a trip to White Hart Lane coming on October 1st.

The mighty Gunners wrap up their season with an away game at West Brom in May.

One thing is for sure, if we`re to contend for the title, and not suffer the wrath of angry Gooners then we need to get off to a flier. The summer has offered us a chance to get away from all the negativity that`s been hanging around the club recently, but make no mistake, our first three fixtures have the potential to bring it all flying back if things don`t go our way.

With Champions League qualifiers looming on the horizon and a tricky start to the season, we`ve got to ensure we have all our sh*t in one sock as quickly as humanly possible.

Champions League qualifiers before playing Liverpool and before going to Old Trafford highlight just how costly finishing fourth could have been. Oh well, at least we're in the thick of it straight away!
Gun 'Em Down
With the heavy pre-season schedule and the sharpness we would have built up towards the UCL play-offs, we could prove to be fitter than most teams, early on. The objective should be to avoid any early loss(es) and take it from there. The champions league fixtures in between games against 2 big rivals is a concern though, but the team should be ready.

We never do things the easy way, do we?

At least our league position is strong at the mo. Can't see Blackburn finishing 3rd tho, don't care how many chickens are sold.
GunnerBlood
I think it's good for these tough ones to come up straight away. We usually start the season well hitting the ground running.
Eboue=GOD
Qualify for CL but drop points both against Pool and United. You heard it here first.
Sajit
Abit gutted about our fixtures really, the first 3 games are all games I'd have gone to, but being away on holiday for all of them mean that I know can't! And depending on who we draw in the CL qualifiers, I think Wenger might decide to use his younger lads, with the United and Pool games following them, that or go all out for a huge lead in the 1st leg!

If we’re not right up to speed at the start of the season then we could be looking at 7 points dropped in the league (Newcastle and Liverpool draws, Man Ure defeat) and out of the CL by 28th August!
Sir Henry
Aw! C'mon, Sir Henry!
Naijagunner
OK, we will win 4-0 at Newcastle and beat Liverpool with a last minute penalty won by Eboue, and Diaby scores the winner at OT when the ball accidentally hits him on the head and goes into the Man Ure net……and Messi scores two double hat-tricks in his first two CL games for Arsenal since his transfer from Barcelona for 100m funded by Alisher Usmanov.
Sir Henry
Okay. What have you been drinking, Sir H? Two extreme views in the space of 12 hours :-)
Naijagunner
Well it’s the close season Naijagunner and I think I’ve gone stir crazy. I appreciate that what I said about Eboue winning us a penalty is way out there :-)
Sir Henry
I saw what you did there re Eboue winning us a pen! Love it. Seriously, though, I am getting tired of all the speculations and feel Arsene must move decisively in the market and the sooner, the better. Fergie has done some business and still looking; Roman is busy as well. The Emirates? Well, mainly news about who is leaving or staying. Not good enough.

Who have Chelsea bought? Who have Citeh bought? United have bought one player in a negotiation that took weeks to finish. If you peer out of the Arsenal goldfish bowl, you'll see it's the same everywhere. Arsenal lodged bids for three players last week- these things take time. The transfer window doesn't open on the continent until July 1st, most player contracts run until 30th June, as do most club's accounting periods. Gervinho is in the bag but contracts, insurance premiums, image rights, blah, blah, blah, it's not just a case of hitting "return" on the keyboard. Patience and perspective.
Little Dutch
Thanks L.D. Guess I needed that. I was of the view Man U had Jones, Young and De Gea in the bag. Chelse did need to have a coach in place first and have done that. Citeh? Are they not over-stocked? All said, it is fair to say a lot more will be expected to go on from July 1st to mid-July; before the late flurries in July.
