What's The Mata On Monday Morning?

Monday morning, transfer rumours aplenty .. I wonder how many of them are true?

First of all the big "story" of the day is that of Arsene Wenger lining up an 18 Million bid for "highly rated" (anyone else getting tired of hearing that phrase?) Spanish under 21`s player Juan Mata

Of course all the articles suggest that Mata, a skilful play-maker is probably being lined up to replace either Cesc or Nasri. Has anyone ever thought we just need more top class players in order to challenge for honours and to convince our current top class players to stay?

Speaking of keeping our best players, it`s being reported that Barcelona are "upping" their bid for Cesc Fabregas from 27M to 31M.

If 35M wasn`t enough to get us to sell last year, how on earth is 31M going to be enough this year. Wenger should just tell them not to bother coming back with any other offers until they can afford at least 45M and stop wasting everybody`s time.

Sky Sports say Inter Milan are having a crack at signing Velez Sarsfield`s Ricardo Alvarez, rendering the claims of Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini (reported in This Article) that Alvarez was "already a Gunner" as absolute bollocks.

Reports claim that Manchester United are set to test our resolve and are lining up a tasty bid for Samir Nasri. All I have to say on that is if Ferguson expects Wenger to sell one of our best players to him then he`s going to have to pay waaaaaaaay over the odds for the Frenchman.

Dont know how true this information about Mata is. He is rare talent and it would take a lot more than 20 million euros to get him. Dont think Valencia will part with him for anything less than a fortune.
Deltaforce
I think it was Arseblog that commented on Valencia's crippling debt, 18M is a lot of money, an amount they might not be able to refuse, not to mention the opening offer is usually not the full amount willing to pay. That said I'll believe it when I see it.
Rocky7
Mata is a player that can improve our side Rocky so its good to see this link and 18 million pounds like you said is a lot of money by our standard. But Valencia/ his agent have leaked our interest in Mata to the media and before we know it, Valencia's asking price for Mata will touch 25 million.
Deltaforce
If this is true we must have something like that price in mind, start low then you don't get pushed too high. I still find it hard to believe as Wenger has not spent huge sums of cash like that before. Every year I think this summer might be different and every I'm proved wrong. Whilst last season should have made this summer a shoe-in for Wenger to bring in some proper class no matter what the price, I'm still pretty skeptical.
Rocky7
I hope we get more concrete news on defensive players. We are supposedly close to completing the signings of Gervinho, Alvarez, Chamberlain Oxlade and linked with others like Mata when i would like to hear we are close to signing Defenders/Defensive Midfielder
paul_ownz
Dont get your hopes up

Indeed Paul - It's a little over 2 weeks ... TWO WEEKS ... till our pre-season games start, and we should be doing everything possible to have our transfers sewn up by then. What with our massively tough start to the PL season, waiting till ten minutes before the transfer window closes just to save a few quid is not going to cut it this time I'm afraid.
Rocky7
Whilst I'm not going to give Arsenal the benefit of the doubt anymore, I will say that it must be frustrating as hell to track a player for years, get ready to sign him and then have our interest leaked so that clubs with much bigger wallets can simply swan in and outbid us. Which is why Arsenal should pay the going price and try and get it done as quickly as possible, the market is in Reganomics mode right now, penny pinching does not cut it.
Professor Calculus
Man City have become a bit like Chelsea circa 2005. They're like the kid that looks over your shoulder and copies your Maths exam when you've revised ******** hard. I sense Arsenal are wise to this and might be throwing some decoys about.
Little Dutch
I doubt there are any targets not known to any of the clubs anymore, so it doesn't matter who your'e linked with.
Gooner_Vin
Painful memories there Little Dutch, I remember getting all excited at the prospect of Robben playing for us before Chelsea snatched him. Then Essien, then Mikel (though I'm thankful for that one!). Then again, Madrid are hardly angels either. Benzema, Ribery (though he didn't go to anyone in the end, so much for coming to get him next year) and Varane to name a few.
TheFamousNo7
Mata has just played in the U21s but he is 23, have they changed the rules again? Anyone heard news on Hazard? He was linked to loads of clubs then nothing.
No 10
I think it is because qualifying started in 2009, and the rule stated players had to be born after 1st jan 1988. Otherwise everyone who was 20-21 during qualifying wouldnt be able to participate in the world cup which would be pointless
paul_ownz
cheers paul

whats up with no one bidding for our unwanted players? The Denilsons, Bendtners, Almunias, Rosickys, and the Eboues...what up with that?
Arseniger
oh..i know why now. The aforementioned players' value have been hit so bad by the complaining arsenal fans and english media that it looks as if Sturidge 'Spellcheck' is better than Bendtner, they made Henderson look better than Denilson with his champions league experience. The plastic fans complained till we lost value in all these players. I hope we can get atleast 1million for each or else they stay on the payroll. which indirectly means we are not going to sign players we've clamoured for
Arseniger
Sorry but thats b0ll0cks arseniger, the reason noone is taking them up because A) They're on such a high wage that no other smaller clubs where they truly belong can afford that weekly outlay to keep them in the manner to which they have become unworthily accustomed and b) they just ain't all that - sorry to burst that bubble. It must have been a reality check for the great Bendy to only have the likes of Dortmund and Besiktas show any vague form of interest. What no Real? no AC Milan? no son sorry but the weathers mint in Turkey. To claim it's the fault of the fans is ridiculous, you really think the boards of the giants across Europe read Le Grove?
nikolaijns
Mata ... don't you think he is a little out of your league? Can you guys afford him?
blue_iceberg
There are very, very few players in world football we can't afford. Whether we spend the money or not is a completely different story.
gunnerkid107
We wouldn't pay 50 mill for Torres, 80 mill for skippy the portugese showpony or 24 mill for a troublesmoe berk like Adebyewh0re, because that is frankly a mugs game, a dick swinging contest for the ultra bored criminally rich.
nikolaijns
Now, we are being "linked" with Inter's young keeper, Emiliano Viviano. I feel if we are not decisive in the market and don't make a concrete signing in the first week of July, there will be a few despondent fans about. It will seem like 'same old story' for the last 5 seasons. For the heck of it, Arsene, just do some business and let's put the speculations to bed!
Naijagunner
Neymar is out of your league blueicemelt. Buy Lukaku for 23 million and be happy.
Deltaforce
Hahahahaha! Good one there, DF.
