'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Gervinho 'Chose' Arsenal

Lille forward, Gervinho claims he chose Arsenal because he believe's he's a good fit for this Arsenal team.

Another of those "worst kept secrets in football", Gervinho has been on the cards for a transfer to Arsenal for quite some time, and while nothing has been made official, the move has been nailed on for a while now.

Today the player spoke about the move,

'I chose Arsenal because it's a young group within which I will be able to integrate easily, I could develop more over there. There's only a few details left to sort out.'

'A risk? Not at all. I'm going to Arsenal to play. The best risk to take is to look to score goals and to play a lot. I chose Arsenal because it's a young group within which I will be able to integrate easily. In football you have to take risks if you want to win. I'm going to Arsenal to win.'

'I had no hesitation, none. But in a transfer there's always a period of analysis and negotiations. All sides had to be satisfied so that things could develop smoothly.

'I'm going there to play, not to be on the bench. Arsenal love the game. And I love teams that love the game. The Premier League is a notch above. It's maybe the best league in the world. I want to live that sensation.'

Can't say I'm too excited about this one. Others go for top Brazilian talents like Neymar. We go for French Ivorians with a Brazilian name!
Gooner_Vin
I think he will do alright and will balance our attack

First some fans say that we are dont buy anyone. We then buy a forward who helped his club win the French title last season, who has a goal in every 2.4 games for his last club besides an assist for every goal he scores. He is then slated for his name. I've watched Gervinho and Hazard all of last season and think the former is well suited for us. He doesnt shirk responsibility, is physically strong, quick and creative.

Deltaforce - was just kidding about the name thing.

He certainly needs to be given a fair shout! He looks pretty good to me, but as with all players a new signing comes with the risk that he might not fit, but it's a start to putting some balance into this team. Hopefully this signals the start of a busy summer.

I am rarely excited about Wengers signings. I was happy but not bragging about Henry, Ljungberg, Viera, Rvp, TV5 & Cesc. Some of the ones that got me going were Walcott, Arshavin, Rosicky. No disrespect but I think we need to see this guy play for us before we judge him.

Plus I can think of a few Ivorians who have been great in the PL of late...I can think of few Brazilians.

So who is going to hazard a guess, when he starts to tippy tappy inside the 6 yard box? Im guessing ill take him around 3 months to start passing backwards when in a shooting position.
Sajit
He's got a song coming his way I say with that head of hair.
Eboue=GOD
Highest hairline i have seen in a long time
paul_ownz
Gervinho is an explosive player who won't pass backwards and won't be shaken off the ball easily. I daresay he will make a difference to the team's attacking play. Watch this site :-)

Chamakh also looked impressive in the French league before joining us.

and Chamakh started brilliantly for us before RVP came back and he didn't get a look in.... think wenger made a mistake by dropping him. I believe we should resort back to the old 4-4-2 that won us those titles, and if Cesc does go, we dont have to make the team fit around him..... RVP and Chamakh up front with the pick of wilshere, ramsey, walcott, gervhino, song and arshavin behind them..... all we need to do is invest in the defense - we lost the league last year purely on not being able to defend properly... set pieces and long balls..... cahill or samba alongside TV5 with a proper left back and we can challenge. Song was the best defensive midfielder in the prem last year, we just need that big rock at the back that doesnt worry about passing it out.... cahill= no nonsense defending! clichy has always been a week defender, play him on the wing yes, but how often does he get caught out behind and then lunge in giving away needless fouls and pens... gibbs isnt ready, but baines is very good.
dan_83
Tbf I think our first choice defence is very very decent. It's when one or two of them get injured that we get problems. For example when Song gets injured there's no one else strong enough in the squad to cover for him. . So what we need in the defence at the moment is not first choice centre backs or defensive midfielders but adequate backup to them. . And keeping that in mind I would really like it if Arsene signed someone like O'Shea who can come in when called upon and 'do a job' for the team without ever raising any questions about why he's not playing more regularly or showing lack of commitment in any form.

O'shea may not be as willing to show 'that' patience with a Frenchman as he would a British gaffer. As for Clichy's replacement if he leaves, we do have options as TV assuming we get Cahill and/or Samba; then there is Armand Traore who may be ready after the stint at Juve. I watched him play in the Italian league and he did look a lot stronger. Just a thought.

I'm looking forward to seeing Gervinho play in an Arsenal shirt, he seems a really decent player. But, I'd rather see him play alongside Nasri than coming in as his replacement!! We need to build on this team, not dismantle it & start again. Still, he's not signed yet, so we'll wait & see.
SHGooner71
What is going on? I am sick to death of the same crap every summer when Wenger promises this and that and then.............nothing. If Cesc and Nasri are going do it now so there is time to sign some quality replacements. I fear we will finally fall out of the top 4 next season, I am really worried.
Will-i-am10
He wants to play for us?! We'll have to do something about that now, won't we? Let's grind him down to the point where he can't wait to leave in a couple of years because he's winning nothing and playing alongside a load of rejects. A bit like the decent players we are about to sell to our rivals now.
gunnerpig
Wenger showed how wayward his judgement had become a few years ago when he passed on Alonso for the sake of a few million (thus setting into motion events that would push Fabregas back to Barcelona) and signed up Silvestre, (to the utter amazement of ferguson, no doubt). His preoccupation with the French league, where he is revered, wil end up killing his legacy here. Arsenal are not a finishing school, and someone needs to remind him of this.
wyn mills
can somebody school dis guy that a tree can not make a forest...let him go and ask those that r bout leaving y they are...lol
henry_shyboy
@ Wyn Mills: I daresay Chamakh turned out exactly as we should have expected, if we average out his contribution for the whole season. In the French league he impressed in every facet except being able to shoot and create chances for himself, so it's no surprise that he's doing exactly the same thing in the Prem. The way he started the season made Arsene look like a genius - getting Chamakh to suddenly start scoring regularly, which he's never done before. Then Chamakh regressed spectactularly. As I was saying when we signed him - he is basically the French-Moroccan Emile Heskey.
krismon1
Anyway, Gervinho is a great signing IMO. I've been a big fan ever since I first saw him in Ivory Coast games. It's his directness in attacking that I like, so I really hope we don't coach that out of him. Now let's sign Lukaku and I'll be happy.
krismon1
Always fancied Gervinho, currently he,Toure & Drog are the best Ivorians atm.We couldve used his services,he's gonna do well. Can we have Arshavin then?
