Arsenal - Alex Song Facing Jail Time?

The Daily Star (Yeah, yeah, I know) is reporting that Arsenal midfielder Alex Song, could be facing some jail time after kicking the snot out of a student in a bar in his home town of Douala.

Song was allegedly in a bar when a fight broke out and Alex rained down punches on the man who claims it was an unprovoked attack.

Speaking on behalf of the student, his lawyer said

"My client was severely beaten. We have witnesses who are ready to speak out.

"My client is a student at Douala University and he never provoked the footballer at any time. We know justice will be done."

The Daily Star went on to claim that the case had to be adjourned after Song failed to show up at court.

I tend to take anything the Daily Star says with a pinch of salt, but after seeing Alex walk ignorantly away from referees who are impatiently blowing their whistle at him, I can`t shake the picture from my mind of Song sauntering off from the courthouse with judges and lawyers screaming at him to return.

nikolaijns thanks mate its hard to tell the difference.
alwaysgunner
Well if Song did commit the crime, I guess he'll have to face the music...*promptly gets coat*
super_gooner
A spell inside could toughen him up to our advantage.
Gooner_Vin
What u mean we could let him loose in the oppositions showers at half time Vin?
nikolaijns
Wouldn't read much into this until we know it's true from a Club Source, but if it is then yes he should be punished.
bear.imp
If true, I suppose it's great that he's showing some of that English Steel like Joey Barton and Lee Bowyer- don't we need that? Now, if RvP cheated on his wife with Theo's girlfriend we'd probably be back in the good graces of the English media.
elbondo
Yeah, something like that Niko - he could intimidate them with the additional hard man tattoos he's got from being inside hehe

Should take Eboue with him.

Never mind all this poop, the real issue is why there are so many slack-jaws in this country who buy these rags. If you buy and read (or am I being too optimistic) a red top paper, and specifically News International, YOU are as culpable this evening, when the news of these heinous actions by scum bags purporting as journalists, are shown for the complete see you next tuesdays they are, and you should be as embarrassed as the politicians who are in bed with Murdoch also. My mother was doorstepped by a Star journo some time ago. She had inherited money, and because she didn't want to give them a story (I chased him down our drive), they made it up. It is the first time, if the papers quotes are correct, that my intelligent, educated mother has used the term 'gobsmacked'. That was an irritant, and not particularly important. What is important is that these ********s make huge profits spewing *****e, and seemingly with the acquiescence of a poodle like political class. To those who buy these rags, think of the families involved in these cases, and tomorrow, when you buy your Daily Scum, think again.

exactly what we needed , is what I intended to type earlier

With the last gasp of Romanticism, the quelling of its florid uprising against the vapid formalism of one strain of the Enlightenment, the dimming of its yearning for the imagined grandeur of the archaic, and the dashing of its too sanguine hopes for a revitalized, fulfilled humanity, the horror of its more lasting, more Gothic legacy has settled in, distributed and diffused enough, to be sure, that lugubriousness is recognizable only as languor, or as a certain sardonic laconicism disguising itself in a new sanctification of the destructive instincts, a new genius for displacing cultural reifications in the interminable shell game of the analysis of the human psyche, where nothing remains sacred. Must be difficult to breathe with your head that far up your arse trocky.
nikolaijns
It's a bit hard to believe Song would do this. As midfield hardmen go, he's far from a nasty sort of player, doesn't seem to go out of his way to start trouble on the pitch, just puts his head down and gets on with it. But then again, you could say the same about Sagna until he had that rush of blood to the head against Citeh.

Lordjonny if your old dear was that well educated she wouldn't have brought up a Spurs fan. Seriously though, it is disgusting what's going on at the moment and the strong rumour is that there's yet more to come. TRH how's that AS Level Lit paper coming along?
shewore
Im sure this will all disapear once the cheque clears (or it is still Brown paper bags still?) the victim will have his education paid for and a few quid to start a career of his choice and all will be forgotten and forgiven. or am I being cynical?
oxfordspur
More to come from Song shewore?
nikolaijns
Hmmm, the lawyer's statement is quite suspicious though? I mean, for all I know Song might have beaten seven bells of ***** out of this young imp. But entirely unprovoked? Really? So Song just did a Bruce Banner and went postal on his scrawny student arse? If Sng did give him a slap, then, in the words of Chris Rock, "Damn! He musta done sumat!"
Little Dutch
Here's what happened... Song saw a young lady roll across the club, he went to intercept her. Another young buck saw the lady and made the same move getting to her first, seeing song advancing he turned his back to shield the young lady from him, song duly bundles into the back of him knocking him flying. Case closed.
nikolaijns
No mate, was in ref to the NOTW stuff. I may've missed the point completely :/
shewore
heh ok, not that I would've been shocked. After Wenger banging a rapping waitress I am now officially unshockable
nikolaijns
do the crime do the time
123spurs
Not always so; I suspect Oxfordspur will be closer to how this all pans out.

LD I disagree. I was bottled 6 years ago. I lost two teeth, needed 20 stitches to put my lips back together and sustained a broken jaw. Honestly that was a completely unprovoked. To the point that I didn't even know what had happened. Someone, who I later became friends with, happened to be at the same club that night and he remembers what happened - Six coked up guys walk onto the dance floor, one of them bottles me and all hell breaks lose. It does happen...in Sheffield

No.10, I know it happens. I frequently drink in New Cross. I've seen it happen plenty of times. My mate was headbutted by someone released from prison 24 hours previous because he wouldn't give him a cigarette. In general, the sort of people that do that are mentally unhinged/ dregs of society. Now, I know I don't know Song from Adam, but he really doesn't strike me as the type to just randomly attack someone for no reason at all. Without mentioning names, my sister has been involved with cases involving footballers (usually minor bumps in a car) and more often than not, the defendant recognises the footballer, twigs he has a lot of money and a reputation to preserve and tries to milk it. Usually in the hope of just getting an out of court settlement for the player to save face/ image.
Little Dutch
If Song got in a fight with someone in a Cameroonian bar, then it was no doubt provoked. Let's not forget he has been having issues with his country's FA and it won't be beyond a "silly"fan to make derisory comments about his situation, even shove him or slate him and his family. I am not saying he should over react, being a pro and all that, but there is just so much a man can take... Still, this is all speculation till we hear the other side.
Naijagunner
LD & Naija: both those things are provocation. I know not giving a cig isn't much but this guy has said that Song was unprovoked. It takes a very 'special' sort of person to attack someone unprovoked. You may even say that my attackers were provoked by coke, Song I just can't believe could walk over to someone and beat the ***** out of them. I do think he is capable of reacting if someone pushes him. I'm assuming it has been dealt with - either dropped or paid off - as Song is on tour and no mention from anyone at the club.
