Wenger Paving The Way For Cesc Departure?

Arsene Wenger has given the clearest indication yet that Cesc Fabregas could leave Arsenal this summer.

For me, however, it`s not the fact he`s been left out of the squad for this weekend`s "Emirates Cup", rather the boss comments that he "doesn`t fully master the situation - it depends on Cesc" suggesting Fabregas has a large say in the situation.

'He will not be involved because at the moment he is not settled, he is coming back from an injury and is not settled with us. Said Arsene Wenger

'You know all the speculation which is around his position, that has to be sorted out soon. He is the captain of our club and we have to make sure he is really focused on being with us."

'There is only one deadline, it is on August 31. The other deadline is for us to get everybody focused, the players who are really committed to the Club, my energy and my focus goes on them. That is what I focus on, I cannot help the other situation, because it does not only depend on me, it depends on the players and on the other clubs.'

"As I told you I don't master completely the situation - it depends on Cesc. I think he`s in a moment when he thinks about it and it is a big concern."

'I always say he is torn between two loves - the club where he has been educated as a very young boy and the club where he has been educated from 16 onwards and he has been given a chance. I personally can understand it - but of course we want to be certain about his complete commitment."

All this, in my humble opinion, is Mr Wenger paving the way from the transfer, subtly letting the fans know that time has arrived to let go.

Arsene also suggests that he wants to ensure players can`t just leave when they decide the time is right, it has to be good for the club too, well I reckon this whole Cesc situation has been handle with the utmost class by Arsene Wenger and Arsenal, the way we`ve been harassed and harried by twats like Xavi, Puyol and Iniesta for the last two years shows the gulf in class between to two clubs.

I think the time is right to let Cesc go, consign him to Arsenal`s history books and move on as a club. Who knows, we might be better for it.

I can't disagree with a word you've written. If the rumors about Mata are true I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Nasri moved into the center. If he puts on the types of displays he did early last year with Mata RvP and Gervinho up top we could be in for some fun.

Gawd, even us rival fans are getting sick of the whole Fabregas transfer saga, can only imagine how Arsenal fans must feel about it!

But can Farca afford him that's the main question. What *****es me off is if this transfer isn't completed because those tight fisted wa Kees won't pay what Cesc is worth then Cesc will not be physically ready for the start of the season as he has not had a decent pre-season.

I'm sure Cesc has been sitting out because everyone involved has known all along he was going to Barca. That said, a small part of me wonders if there is a long term problem with his hamstrings and Wenger was hoping to cashin this year rather than watch his value drop if he spent the majority of another year on the treatment table.

I'm not sure what a 'tight fisted wa Kees' means, I'm sure you realised I meant *****ers :-)

I can't think anything other than there was a gentlemen's agreement last summer that, in the event Arsenal didn't deliver, that we wouldn't stand in Cesc's way. I just can't see how else we'd be tolerating Barca's crap for this long.

Agree Fifth, I'm a Yid and have nothing but sympathy for the Goonies about how Barca have acted towards their captain. They've lost my respect for sure, although not sure how much losing my respect will mean to Barca,,, Hope he stays, good luck to you

The 40 million + fee for Fabregas isn't going to be achieved is it. As he will not sign for any club except Barca it may be time to reduce our fee to 35 million and bid adieu. The other side of the coin is that Barca have produced all this drama, whinging and douchebaggery for a reduction of fee by 5-7 million quid. For that relatively small amount of money they have reduced the prestige of their club abroad.

Fabregas will leave and wont be remembered as an arsenal legend.. i think if he realised that it will hurt him... he cant be mentioned in the same breath as Adams, Parlour, Henry, Bergkamp, Pires ... list goes on. and its a shame has he is a decent player.

I agree Tim, I always thought that might be the case even last year. Dan_83 .... it's a shame, but you're right, but more down to the team performance than his own, if we'd have won something with him as captain the rest of his performances would have been amazing enough to consider him legendary. As it is he'll go down as a great player who used to play for us. Shame.

He has won in an Arsenal shirt exactly what Liam Brady won in an Arsenal shirt and it looks like he will leave at exactly the same age. Is Brady not a club legend?

I guess that's true! Also Cesc has made more appearances and scored more goals! I guess as time passes and the feeling of disapointment disperses somewhat he'll be regarded in a similar fashion.

Yourselves, Wenger and even Fabregas have conducted yourselves admirably throughout this tiresome and boring saga. "the players who are really committed to the Club, my energy and my focus goes on them." - Great comment by Wenger.

Mentally he's been on the way out for a long time, you could see it in his performances. I don't think he'll be regarded as an Arsenal legend because he's not an Arsenal fan, he's a Barca fan. The one saving grace for you is that he won't succeed there: he simply isn't good enough and that was why they let him go in the first place. You never know he might return with his tail between his legs when he realises his level.

Arsene is paving the way for Cesc to leave. By saying "As I told you I don't master completely the situation'' I think he will be sold for much less than he is worth. So, 28mil or 40mil ? will it make any differance to us the FANS? no. I care more that our manager stays and brings us more glory.

Cesc will always be a club legend despite not winning much. He has always given his sweat and blood on the pitch. Acted with more grace and dignity than some of the homegrown players. Ive seen him carry the team singlehandedly on his Catalan shoulders. Something I have not seen even Henry do.

Not sure about that Sajit; definitely a good player, but special? I'm not sure. He's not got the goals like Fat Frank Lampard, or the passing of Scholes. Granted, at 24 (?) these things may still come and he could turn out to be the greatest player ever - but as it stands, he's a good centre-mid. We've got a couple of those.
