Arsenal & Song Charged By The FA

Arsenal & Song Charged By The FA

Just when you think things couldn`t get any better, both Arsenal and Alex Song have been charged by the FA.

The season's opener at St James Park against Newcastle ended in controversy after, in my opinion, Gervinho tried to win a penalty. The result of which was mass confrontation between both sets of players and resulted in clash amongst most players on the pitch.

The confrontation finished with both teams being charged with failing to control their players by the FA.

Alex song was also charged with violent conduct for his stupid stamp on Joey Barton (if you`re going to do it, do it right and aim for the neck).

Arsene Wenger also risks having an extra game ban heaped upon new boy Gervinho as he attempts to appeal the three game ban for his red card.

The FA Statement said 'Newcastle United and Arsenal have been charged by The FA with failing to control their players following Saturday's fixture at St James' Park.

'Both clubs have been charged following a mass confrontation of players following an incident in which Arsenal's Gervinho was also shown a red card in the 75th minute.

'Following Gervinho's dismissal Arsenal have lodged a claim that the standard punishment of a three-match suspension is clearly excessive. A Regulatory Commission will hear the claim on 16 August.

'Meanwhile Arsenal's Alex Song has been charged separately by The FA with violent conduct following an incident earlier in the same fixture.

'Both clubs have until 1600 BST on 18 August to respond to the charge, whilst Song must reply by 1800 on 16 August.'

I think the charge for failing to control your players is a bit ridiculous however the retrospective punishment of Song is fair.

what was gervinho thinking? was he allowed to slap people in france? and what was song thinking? there are like a bajillion cameras at stadiums now, and you're not going to get away with anything... if you were to take anything away from last seasons implosion against newcastle, it should be "don't get a red card and turn it into a street fight"... lesson yet to be learned i guess...

If the presence of cameras at the ground meant you got away with nothing Barton wouldn't have a career at all.

I posted on the match thread about half an hour before the incident that Song has to be one of the dopiest players in the world. I wouldn't be suprised if the charges brought against him in his home country of assault were entirely true. He's got poo for brains.

What I didn't get about the Song stamp was the way he stood next to Barton and just looked at the floor. The best way to get away with something is to 'hide it in plain sight'. If he had stamped and then turned in shock as in 'what just happened?'...maybe even called for medical staff to come and attend the prostrate Jo. Had he done that he could've at least drawn blood.

well what a surprise, barton admits to play acting to get gervinho sent of and the fa decide in their infinate wisdom that he did nothing wrong, and has no case to answer i just hope the same people take that into consideration when hearing our appeal against the sending off but i shant hold my breath, because it seems over the years that the only players who are ever guilty of any sanctions must play for arsenal
