Deadline Day Madness

For once in our lives it appears that a deadline day is not only going to be active, but very important for us, so instead of sitting and looking through the windows of other glaring in jealously at their new bike or Playstation, we're going to get to have some fun of our own.

I'll be updating the article as the day progresses with every single piece of transfer news and rumours, now matter how flimsy.

So if speculation and fantasy football really isn't your thing I suggest steering clear of this thread.

Let the fun and games commence.

8:30am Reports emerging that Arsene Wenger is out of bed with a determined look on his face.

8:54am Arsenal are reported to be ready to smash their record transfer fee with a £25M bid for Rennes powerhouse M'Vila

8:56am Sky Sports News confirm reporters have seen Nicklas Bendtner's father/agent at Stoke City's training ground.

9:16am Ladbrokes claim that Fulham's Clint Dempsey and Everton's Mikel Arteta also top Wenger's shopping list.

10:39am Arsenal new boy Joel Campbell looks set to join Lorient on a season long loan after failing to secure a work permit.

10:44am West Ham join the chase for Henri Lansbury as the player searches for 1st team football.

12:54pm Arsenal are apparently waiting on hearing about Marvin Martin after inquiring about the playermaker.

13:13pm Reports coming in that Stoke City have decided Nicklas Bendtner is just far too awesome for the to sign and B52 will return to the Gunners.

17:30pm Sky Sports News claim Arsenal are about to lodge a £10Million bid for Everton's Mikel Arteta.

18:46pm Reports of Arsenal talking to Chelsea's Benayoun about a possible loan deal.

19:20pm As quickly as it started, it appears the move for Arteta is off!

Sorry, but cannot help but feel there is a distinct hint of panic in Arsenal buying or attempting to buy so many players on the last day of the window. Players like Mertesacker will undoubtedly improve you no end, but why have you waited until now to get so many in?

NB will probably do well at Stoke though. He could exploit Throwy Delap's abilities. I think he'll do well there and move to a bigger club from there on. He's a decent player. Not the best(as he thinks) but still capable of making a good career for himself.

I don't know about panic as these are obviously all players that have been on our radar some time fcb. There is undoubtably opportunism involved due to Monacos' relegation and fenerbahces match fixing ban, the 8-2 result has inadvertently done us a pretty big favour in my view as a 3-1 loss would not have resulted in half of the activity. Even if half of these signings don't work out at least something was tried, and with the exception of cesc and nasri gooners are pretty much unanimous that the remaining leaving players had to go, who is to say things wouldn't have been done sooner had Barca and Nastis' agent not acted like utter lowlifes the whole window long?

One thing I have noticed is that Wenger ties up all the young signings early on in the Summer, and leaves the more experienced ones for later on. PS - "El Loco" plays for Fiorentina .... it's Santos we got from Fener.

Yeah but I don't actually believe that Arsene CHOOSES to leave it late. He would prefer to conclude his business early in the window. But the state of the market is just such that there's no movement early. Everything comes to a head at the end of the window. He just has no other option. If he tries earlier in the window to sign players he gets scuppered by others like you said.

Don't give up vin, 12 hours in a transfer window is more than enough. Wenger specifially cited midfield as the most important place to strengthen, I doubt he'd sign a striker and two defenders and forget about that. it's probably taking longer because it'll be more high profile and harder to tie up. If Vargas arrives I'll do a bit of sex-wee

Following Kroenke's majority control of the club there have been signings of some quality players who also have immense marketing potential in countries where Arsenal need to improve their presence and commercial revenues. Park and Miyaichi will have a positive impact on Arsenal's brand in South Korea and Japan. Extending the same kind of logic of a quality player with marketing potential in a position where the club could do with improvement, I am closely following the fortunes of Clint Dempsey today. He can play on the right, left or in the centre behind the striker and would satisfy the commercial team appetite for a US star at the club. Thinking of waging a fiver on the thought now.
