'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Vermaelen Explains Extension Reasons

Thomas Vermaelen has said there is a big belief in the camp that Arsenal will put the bad start behind them, and go on and continue to be successful.

Speaking to arsenal.com Vermaelen said.

'I feel there is a big belief from the club and that is one of the reasons why I stayed. I feel great here, it's a fantastic club. I want to show something back to the club and to the fans and that is why I want to stay longer.'

On the issue of his injuries and fitness, he added.

'I am doing a lot of stuff on the pitch now with Tony, it's been going really well and I think I can go into full training very soon.'

I'm so glad we've got at least one of our big players to sign on the dotted line .... now if we could just get him back on the pitch.

Good player and this is good news-but having not kicked a ball in anger for eighteen months now he did not really have any other option.

The longer Theo stays unsigned the worse he looks IMO. TV5 shows character and solidarity and respect for the club. I hope Theo is made of the same stuff.
