I got up nice and early this morning, ready and raring for action, as is the norm after making a nice cuppa` I`ll sit and browse the best that the Newsnow Arsenal section has on offer, which in fairness, usually isn`t much.
Today, the article that immediately caught my eye was "Arsenal face battle for Wilshere". "Sh*t" I thought, "Injury set back". However the content seemed to suggest that we would face an uphill battle as we brace ourselves for a Real Madrid raiding party to swoop in and whisk one of our prize assets away as the Galacticos attempt to revive their waning reputation.
Then more and more articles waded in with the suggestion we might lose the young Englishman.
I`d suggest that everyone saves their time and effort to worry about something that might actually stand a chance of coming to pass, because this one is about as likely as John Terry attending a seminar on the life and works of Malcolm X.
The Cesc Fabregas saga, though it ultimately ended in defeat, should be enough to show that our club is willing to fight to the bitter end to keep hold of our best players. Sure we lost Cesc in the end, but that was after one of the most drawn out and sordid transfers you`re ever likely to see.
Coupled with the fact that Fabregas was being pursued by the club of his dreams, the team he supports, and the side he once played for in his home country, it made it difficult to resist for the Spaniard.
However it`s the complete polar opposite for Wilshere. Whilst Arsenal might not be the club he supported as a small boy, he`s been here for so long, he could be due a testimonial at the age of 19. He has Gooner DNA (to borrow a phrase from a slightly wanky human being).
When you also remember the fact that he recently signed a 5 year contract, and even more recently promised Arsenal fans that he would stay at Arsenal for life then I think it`s easy to say this is not a goer from day 1.
Of course it doesn`t need me to tell you this (well maybe one or two of you are still a bit sleepy), but in the interlull we need to find something to talk about.
