Harsh Criticism Of Mertesacker

Arsene Wenger has described the criticism leveled against Per Mertesacker as unfair.

Speaking to arsenal.com Wenger said that the defender had been far better than most pundits have given him credit for.

'I feel people have been harsh in their judgment. I like Per very much, but because he is so tall, sometimes if he looks less impressive in one situation, people make a definite negative judgment but he grows stronger in every game. I am really happy with him.'

Per will learn the refs here will give us nothing. He was fouled but the fact was barely discussed by commentators. The irony of the Norwich crowd chanting 'same old Arsenal..' when they have players getting booked for diving was priceless. If anyone deserves criticism is players like Holt who bring the game into disrepute.

i think the ref was poor yesterday but i reckon that mertesacker does have the tendency of lapse in concentration like clichy. hope he improves

I am happy with Per's influence on our game. Like any defender, he will have slips but that cannot remove from the fact he does make us better, defensively, along with any of the other CBs.
