Banfield Delighted With Youngsters Progress

Reserves manager Neil Banfield has said he is delighted by the progress of our youngsters this season as more of them are earning their first team stripes.

Speaking to arsenal.com Banfield said he was delighted to see the likes of Szczesny, Coquelin and Frimpong establish themselves (to varying degrees) in Wenger's first team plans and he believes it serves as the perfect boost for other youngsters to know that when deserved they will be given their chance.

'Emmanuel has done exceptionally well, along with Wilshere, Gibbs, Szczesny and Djourou, they've come through the Club's youth structure and done brilliantly. Hopefully there will be some more following in their footsteps in the near future.'

The production line still impresses Banfield and he has high hopes that 2012 will give rise to even more players making the step up to the first team level.

Djourou, though, will need to improve his game. Agreed he is not a full back but he does get a bit jittery for comfort. He can do better.
