Team News: Arsenal vs Leeds

Arsene Wenger has named an extremely strong line-up for tonight`s FA Cup 3rd Clash vs Leeds United at Ashburton Grove.

Wenger had made comments about the FA Cup being a "bonus" that had been blown completely out of all proportions in some quarters, however Wenger`s team selection has shown that the Frenchman is taking the competition very seriously.

Often in the past Wenger has used the cup competitions (the league cup more than the Carling cup) to blood young players, yet despite the lower league competition tonight Arsene has gone with a mixture of youth and experience.

Notable inclusions are obviously Thierry Henry, Alec Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mikel Arteta.

The magic of the FA Cup keeps producing. Henry comes on 1st real chance he gets was it ? Superb, however it must come as a blow that it took Henry to score against Leeds ?? Not on a windup, just an observation is all.

He's going to bring a spring to your season, however probably as a super-sub. Still, hardly the worst Striker to bring on with 30 mins left, eh ?
Tot-Nam Vet
Fairy tale stuff there. He had to just come on and score, didn't he? And his trademark goal too.

Brilliant Just Brilliant!!!!!!! TH12 Scores, Arsenal into the next round of the FA Cup! It was Just Meant to Be!

Nice to see the ref make a sensible decision WRT Coquelin's (undangerous) 2 footer tonight. Even an inept d!!ck like Clattenburg can tell the difference between a telling off and a sending off. Nice start for henry BTW - I believe the phrase is "fairytale return"?
fifthcolumnblue
Tot-Nam Vet, agree with you that it should be wrrying that it took Henry coming on to score us a goal vs Leeds. The script was written for him to come on when we should be at least 2 goals up then get one chance to add a 3rd. It was not to be as other than Arshavin and the Ox, we did very little in terms of directness. Henry did look off the pace; I can hardly remember him playing with his mouth open, for extra air to his lungs. That would change with more fitness training, though, which would come in handy against the PL teams.
Naijagunner
"Fairytale return" it is, fcb.

Arshavin looked really good without the cutting edge in finishing, lacks confidence. But all the headlines are going to be about Henry, and deservedly so. 1st chance, 1st shot on goal and he scores. Vintage Henry. Let's not get carried away though, he's not going to do this every game.

Written in the stars.. a million miles away....

Just shows what difference a bit of quality in the final third can do for you. Forget Walcott and The Ox, Chamakh and Arshavin should be learning from him.
Gooner_Vin
My only real concern is that the expectation levels will now go through the roof. He's 34, slower and out of touch with the pace of the Premiership. Hope he can cope with the pressure..
Sajit
Prits - Gotta disagree with you - respectfully - thought Arshavin was awful, infact this game was the game i decided he's not gonna be what he was for us every again. I was yelling for him to be subbed, would've like to have seen Rosicky/Yossi in his place.
FuiKaka
On another note - Great shame for Coquelin, i like that kid more and more everytime i see him play. He plays with so much confidence and belief in his ability (which he clearly has a lot of). Also, i think Yennaris did very well considering he was probably wasn't part of Wengers plans to even play. Ox is going to be a star. We have a bollock load of potential in these very young players, just hope we can keep them together and combine then with the experience and class of the likes of RVP, Arteta and Rosicky.
FuiKaka
Fuikaka, what game were you watching? Arshavin was our only real threat, other than Oxlade-Chamberlain late on. What he lacks is confidence and I am glad he was not subbed as that can only do him good.
Naijagunner
Naijagunner - He tried to be direct but as far as i saw failed every time? Apart from his couple of off-target shots he never really threatened? He reminded me of Wright-Phillips, he was just running into walls.
FuiKaka
Well, its been a while since we seen him put in such a shift; he will return to some form, with more opportunities. I would rather have him than Theo, on both players' individual performance(s) today.
Naijagunner
On a separate note tho, Henry needs to shave off that beard ! Truly awful, it'll probably slow him down also ! Lmao
Tot-Nam Vet
Haha Tot-Nam - That thought popped into my head when he was celebrating his goal, the beard does not suit him.
FuiKaka
Yep- please shave, Thierry :)
julieloveshenry4ever
Hehehehe! Knowing the man, there will be a reason for the beard.
