swansea are due another home defeat, hope they get it today
49ers
Well, Theo has to try to be a lot more dangerous than he's been, so far.
Naijagunner
The simple matter is that bar RvP we don't have top attacking players anymore that can give the needed quality in the final third. Theo is just plain frustrating. Arshavin hit and miss. Ramsey isn't quite there yet. I shudder to think where we'd be without RvP.
Gooner_Vin
Just seen the replay of the 'pen'. What a shocking decision. The standard of refereeing is so incredibly bad.
Gooner_Vin
Ramsey was even avoiding the contact, to be fair; however, he should know better than to stay that close in the area.
Naijagunner
Come on Swansea. Penalty was bang on. Spot on ref.
Tony Rocky Horror
Miquel delivers a good ball into the area and no one to connect.
Naijagunner
Swansea deserve it to be honest.
Sajit
2-1
Sajit
Shambolic defending by the Arsenal for that goal. Ramsey is determined to cost us the match...sleeping like that on the job.
Naijagunner
What a feckin shower.
nikolaijns
Sigh. Swansea want it more. Arsenal playing like their old selves thinking just have to turn up to win. So much a typical Arsenal performance, always likely to concede. We're out of the CL next season i'm afraid. Glad we have 50m in the bank though.
Gooner_Vin
Midfielders must stop the fancy footwork in critical areas/moments. We keep losing out on the 50-50s.
Naijagunner
....Song, guilty too. Goooal! Theo!
Naijagunner
Unbelievabale! 3-2!!
Naijagunner
Getting what we deserve, I'm afraid. Mental strength showing again
Gooner_Vin
Henry, bloody crap
Sajit
Ramsey thinks he is some Brazilian kid, you know...always trying intricate things that won't come off and holding on to the ball far too long for comfort. Frustrating day.
Naijagunner
Top 4? We can't do it this way
Naijagunner
These last two away games have been truly awful. Just like the Arsenal of old. Swansea playing with far more composure on the ball than we are. Seeing Arsene ranting and raving on the sidelines. Just cuts a figure we've seen far too often the last few seasons. Really disappointing.
Gooner_Vin
If there's one thing you know this Arsenal team can do, it's not to take advantage when other results go your way.
Gooner_Vin
Maybe another 8-2 stuffing next week will see the dust blown off the creaking wallet. Goodbye top 4 it's been a blast.
nikolaijns
I think we could do well to buy guys from teams like Swansea and Sunderland.
Sajit
Niko - the thing is, they'll probably scrape a 1-0 next week that'll paper the cracks and then Wenger will be blind again.
Gooner_Vin
Nope. no 1-0s. We need our fullbacks back. Or Wenger needs to *****ign go and buy someone. Neither will happen. We are losing next week too.
Sajit
The earlier we (fans) reconcile to the fact that we are not going to see Champions League football next season, the easier it will be for us.
Sajit
The real problem that I see is that we are going to find it difficult to keep our best players and attract good players without the CL carrot. But hey if those ****s Tottenham and ******** Harry Redknapp can do it, so can we surely...
Sajit
Gooner_Vin, can't see how this team can beat United, even at the Emirates; at least, not on a performance as this. It just seems we can't focus on the big picture to drive the players into showing more commitment.
Naijagunner
Then lose to Sunderland vin, yep we are nothing if not predictable, and lose the ******** sleeping bag Wenger ffs! you look like the last twiglet in the pack.
nikolaijns
I like Ramsey, I really do... but he really needs to get the simple things first before trying to fill Cesc's boots.
Sajit
Teams like Swansea have an obvious hunger some of our boys don't. Apart from the first and last 10 minutes we were pretty much blown away. We stroll about thinking everyone is going to give us time to show our skills. Not anymore. That's ok if you have a ball carrier like Fabregas or Wiltshire, but to be honest this team always gets bogged down when the ball reaches Song. Unless there's a gap in the defence we struggle to get things moving really quickly. Well done to Swansea. The penalty was a travesty but what's new? And Arshavin really does get on my tits.
Wyn Mills
Don't think Szesney's decision making on their 2nd and 3rd goals was great, either.
Gooner_Vin
Sajit & Wyn - agree with both your points.
Gooner_Vin
We missed Arteta BADLY.....Arshavin needs to go, theo can run in straight lines. We are also missing Verm and santos gave us something more on the left. Fair play to Swansea they played us off the park at our own game....well our old game. At this rate I think Europa might even be out of reach.....need to consolidate and regroup MAJORLY in the summer for next season
gunnerman76
Chesney had a proper Almunia out there
nikolaijns
I don't think you can blame Szczesny for the 2nd. Its not like he was beaten at his near post. I think our midfield lost the ball far too many times and just failed to hunt the ball down enough when they did.
Wyn Mills
we did not deserved to lose by just one goal. vs. wolves, scored on 8', drew 1-1, vs. fulham scored on 21', lost 1-2, vs. swansea, scored on 5', lost 3-2. it looked to me that we only turned up for about 30 mins in a game; the first 10-20 min to try to score and the last 10-20 to try to scrap for a point or two. in this game, wilshere will remember it as the game were he lost his 3k bet, and the fans will remember it as the game we lost our cl spot for the 1st time after 14 years. well done swansea
Joe_@**
Arteta would have made little difference gunnerman, unless sideways passing is your thing of course.
nikolaijns
As we saw last season. we wanted to get rid of the Denilsons and Diabys...But we lost the Cesc's and Nasris (thank you though!).. Theres too much of average-ness in this team. Summer is going to be another long fight to keep the Van Persies and Vermaelens and get rid of the Parks Denilsons(still on our ******** payroll), Chamakhs and other pile of ***** Wenger has accumulated over the years.
Sajit
Szczesny - last season you were forgiven for costing us the Carling Cup.. But this season, we are increasingly signs of Almunianess.. FML
Sajit
I know he isn't a right back, but Djourou just doesn't strike me as a player that should be at a club that wants to play at the highest level. We've had too may from Arsene recently. For every Fabregas and Wilshere, there's been a Denilson, Eboue, Almunia and Bendnter, i.e. players he's believed in, persisted with, but it was obvious to all they weren't good enough. But really impressed with Swansea, to play the way they do with the quality of players they have their manager is outstanding.
Gooner_Vin
That's cheered me up after our disappointing result.
Tottenham Hotcore
Good, you'll see such a season after 35 years of *****. TH
Sajit
Agree with you about Djourou. Not who I'd call Mr Mobile, and always looks distinctly uncomfortable bringing the ball forward. I wince whenever he gets the ball and there's an opponent zeroing in on him. Why do we always lose key players for large parts of the season? Wilshire, Sagna, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Santos...the list goes on.
Wyn Mills
i am sorry if i am blunt but walcott & arshavin have to go. sell both of them + chamakh and get someone like hazard or gotze (but i don't think they will consider us now). miquel doesn't seems to have the positional sense required for a defender at this level. song looked disinterested and his performance had dropped drastically lately. ramsey should keep things simpler. release the pass faster and cut the fanciful cr*p. djourou defended well but should to dribble too much because he is just not good at it. only kos showed he really wanted the game, apart from his lapse of concentration that lead to swansea's 3rd goal
Joe_@**
Much as it hurts to say it I thought Swansea actually deserved the victory. I really thought they outplayed us at our own game today. Doesn't happen very often.
Wyn Mills
How comes United cope with their injuries and we don't?
Gooner_Vin
Yep, the loss of Vidic and Rooney barely puts them off their stride. Even having 2 dodgy goalkeepers doesn't do it.
Wyn Mills
Despite this result costing me 300 it was quite amusing to see. Getting quite enjoyable seeing Song go walkies every week, the world class DM that he is. :)
HuddersfieldYiddo
nikolaijns....maybe I should have been more specific. Arteta is cool under pressure, doesn't waste a needless pass and rarely loses the ball. All things our midfield lacked today. As soon as I saw our midfield lineup I thought we would struggle with ball retention in the middle of the park. Benayoun is no Arteta and I felt Song and Rambo were overworked. One plus point is Ox looked lively again and will be giving walcott cold sweats at night now, I think wenger should be braver and give him more minutes.......its not like we have much to lose. I was really impressed with Swansea today, calm in possession, they out passed us, out hustled us and deserved the victory, if they played like that in every game they would finish top 4.
gunnerman76
Swansea deserved their victory today and seemed to want it more; which is worrying since someone should be telling our lads what is at stake after the other results around us. Koscielny was our best player in my view while Walcott, despite his goal, was rather poor which makes you wonder how much longer before the Ox is given his chance on a regular basis. Ramsey? Good player but needs to be more aware of what's going on around him and stop expecting the opponent to just watch him try fancy footworks. Djourou can't cut it at this level, I am afraid, at least not as a full back; doesn't have the skill set required to excel in that position. Ultimately, not good enough for Arsenal.
Naijagunner
Makes you wonder why Wenger is always complaining to the 4th officials. They weren't responsible for signing Arshavin and Walcott.
Wyn Mills
Should we bother with the MoTM poll when we lose so woefully? Just asking....
Naijagunner
Won't make you feel any better, but it was a great game for the neutrals. Swansea are a lot better side than many people give them credit for, and don't forget manure only beat them 1-0 at theirs, and they've also given Liverpool and Tottenham a rough time at home. Not the end of the world for you, and I sincerely hope you pick yourselves up for the game against the rags - TBH, I think Swansea are actually a BETTER side than manure are at the moment, and your home advantage should see you get something from that one - just make sure Van Persie sticks to Wio Turdinand all day, he's bound to get some joy that way!

Sajit
You'll be laughing on the other side of your face by the end of the season Sajit. No, but seriously, you shouldn't feel down. The Europa is a really good competition with some good teams. We had a cracking tie with Sevilla a few years back. Enjoy. You've earned it. It's not easy being the top team in NL you know. We're going to have to play the cream of European football next year and that's tough! Still that's what the big teams have to deal with. Small fry who never win anything have an easier time of it, know what I mean?
Tony Rocky Horror
TRH Spurs are a better team then us so far this season there is no doubt, I would be delusional to think otherwise....the difference between me and you, is that I actually admit it, and I am not delusional. I am a football fan who is gracious in defeat and realises that spurs have potentially pulled their finger out of their ass after half a century, never mind 7 years! As you have ALREADY found out, the hard part is staying there for the next 15 years (let alone 17 games) and while actually winning the odd title. There is one big difference this time around.....we are A LOT closer to you right now then you have been to us over the last decade thats for sure. The reason you missed out on the CL this year was because you was in it last year.....I think even you can work that one out.
gunnerman76
TRH, you know whats the difference between us. I have no issues in my team playing in the Europa.. We all come from humble beginnings. Unlike a certain Harry Redknapp who thinks Europa is too below him and decides to throw it away. We are the Arsenal. We'll be back - to bitch slap lilly white arse across North London.
Sajit
wenger has to find ways to salvage the season by hook or by crook because things are gonna get worst if we failed to qualify for cl next season. rvp will leave for certain and good players will refuse to join us. we never pay top wages & players are joining us because of the opportunity to play in cl. it is very obvious that our players have lost their motivation. their lackluster attitude was so frustrating to watch. only rvp, kos, vermealen and gervinho deserve to wear the shirt so far this season. the rest either do not have the heart or simply not good enough
Joe_@**
My word... we have a poor start to the season after a shocking run of injuries and players leaving, and everyone says we'll get relegated. Half a season in, sitting in fourth, it's all roses again. Lose to Swansea, and you're all at the razor blades! Bit of perspective and consistency, people.
damiano_tommassi
Well done Swansea City, and how ironic this was won by a dodgy pen, Arses being famous for never seeing anything and all that, but reports has it that he saw everything this time, and he is sure it was a dive....well Karma is sometimes a bit of a piatch.
Blue is the colour
BITC - is that what it is when a professional footballer dives for a penalty - irony? I though it was cheating. I certainly remember Dudu getting hounded by the Scottish press for it a few years ago and talk of him being banned by UEFA. How is it Karma? Because an Arsenal player once dived? Eh?
damiano_tommassi
dt, we cannot deny that some players were only giving their best in selective games. we lost to city 1-0 but everyone was full of praise because the team's commitment could not be faulted. had we played with the same level of commitment, we would have won against wolves, fulham & swansea where we took the lead early instead of taking just one point
Joe_@**
Honestly couldn't tell you whether or not someone was giving their best on any given occasion Joe, and nor could any else. If anything, a couple of players seemed to suffer from trying to do too much. not got anything to do with my previous post, but seeing as you raise it...!
damiano_tommassi
Where do you think you'll finish this season then? Not where you want to finish but where you WILL finish?
Himwhatwhats
I'd stick a tenner on fourth.
damiano_tommassi
Why is everybody so negative still a long way to go i not writing off our chances yet we were missing some key players so lets keep the head up AFC for life
Van Persie
"why is everybody so negative" <<< probably cos they're familiar with Arsenal over the last 4 or so years.
shewore
..."cos they're familiar with Arsenal over the last 4 or so years", achieving success in spite of everything and yet not satisfying the media or fans because they expect a team to win things every year, forever.
damiano_tommassi
"In spite of" - the whole world isn't against us Damiano, believe it or not. You think Tottenham will capitulate then? Or Chelsea? Our defence is nearly as bad as Chelsea's, Tottenham are a better side than us.
shewore
Spurs are bound to drop points, given their upcoming fixture list. But given our normal record in ending seasons over the past 3-4 years, I fear that this over worked select group of players will be too tired and the rest of the squad does not have the quality to step up. 4th is looking is really difficult this season. This season hinges on razor thin margins, and its going to take some good fortune (no more injuries, RvPs form continuing) to see us finish 4th.
prits
I sometimes wonder, shewore.

You're using that sensationalist language that the papers/idiots on sky shout regularly - how often do you use that word day-to-day - but assuming by 'capitulate' you mean 'have a worse second half to the season than Arsenal and finish below them', I could quite easily see us out-performing Tottenham and/or Chelsea over the next 17 games, yes, why not? You say your defence is nearly as bad as Chelsea's - but ours isn't on the field, it's in the treatment room. Apples and oranges.
damiano_tommassi
I sometimes wonder, shewore.

damiano_tommassi
I thought Wenger was very gracious in defeat, admitting that ..."apart from that, (the dive, our defending, the ref), Swansea played well and deserved to win". It's not all doom & gloom yet, but we do need to improve on the commitment front. The team has to focus on the goal, which for now, is to be in the top 4. On yesterday's performance, we are not going to achieve that; Swansea looked like they were the ones looking to catch up with the top 4 while we played like nothing was at stake. The younger lads like Miquel and Oxlade-Chamberlain didn't deserve that result, just on the work they put in. Our 'senior' players have to stand up to be counted and lead by example.
Naijagunner
Chelsea having fair amount of injuries as well. Capitulate I think is a fair definition of losing 10pts when you're going through just about the best season for 50 years. I can see them dropping points, but I can't see us taking advantage of them, how many times over the last few years have we seen our team bottle taking the bull by the horns and turning up the pressure on teams above us by dropping points? As has been said our team is completely overworked, the squad is the worse it's been under Wenger (in my opinion) we have a slim chance, but we'll need other teams to be worse than ours, I can't see us doing anything dramatically good.
shewore
Something is wrong with Theo and someone needs to hold his hands, if he needs it. He didn't do his England ambitions any good yesterday. I did expect a lot more from Ramsey, being the Wales captain and playing in front of his 'fans' and all that. He seemed to be trying too hard, dwelling too much on the ball before losing it to the opposition. Wenger is a brave man knowing he will have to show up a week after with this same bunch and be responsible for the outcome of the game(s); unless he drops non-performers and can get the rest of the team to up their game, we will just have to expect drab performances till our injured players and Gervinho return.
Naijagunner
"how many times over the last few years have we seen our team bottle taking the bull by the horns and turning up the pressure on teams above us by dropping points?" - I think that's a question of perspective. Liverpool failed to win this weekend (at home to Stoke) after the top teams had dropped points; do we define that in the same way? Or because our squad is younger and less costly do we say 'inexperience! Get the chequebook out!'? it is as disappointing as it is surprising that, just when Arsenal seem to be back, we have a result like this. But let's not panic, eh? Feels like September all over again...
damiano_tommassi
I'm certainly not panicking, Damiano, just mildly airing frustrations - I can't be bothered to be too assertive with them - it's great that you have a very laid back approach, but swatting away a point with the old "perspective" argument is pretty tiresome to be honest. You'd be hard pressed not to find any opinions/questions on anything in the world that aren't "based on perspective". It's fecking annoying that we drop points like this, it's fecking annoying that we don't know how to close out games, it's fecking annoying that we don't know how to make other teams pay when they drop points, I don't care what Liverpool have spent, they've got eff all to do with that point.
shewore
damiano - I like your positive, supportive posts, even if I don't always agree with them. I know we have injuries, key players leaving, and we can't win every game and a trophy every season. but for cryin' out loud, over the last 4 seasons or so, when it's been plainly obvious that the players Wenger brought in and had faith in were patently not good enough, why oh why can't we bring in the quality needed? we need that quality even without cesc/nasri leaving. the other day we saw Henry, a 34 year old, show what a bit of quality in the final third can deliver you. you can be optimistic as you like now about chelsea and spurs dropping points, but we're simply a RvP injury away from even a top 8 position not being likely. You simply cannot deny that.
Gooner_Vin
what a bunch of overpaid under achievers
cornish gooner
So Shewore/GV, how does it get fixed? What can we suggest to AW that he doesn't know already, and better than us? He strikes me as a man just as *****ed-off that the same old things keep happening, who knows his team is better than that. What could we do to improve the side?
damiano_tommassi
Damiano - like I said, buy some real top quality players, rather than have 50m in the bank.
Gooner_Vin
I'm not convinced it's Wenger, i don't really know if his hands are tied or what, but things aren't working. I think overall there is a lack of ruthlessness in his management, wrapping players in cotton wool that aren't delievering, that approach is bearing naff all fruit these days, it worked great 10 years ago, it took Pires a year to bed in, but it's not working.
shewore
GV - who? You can't just say 'buy players' - we've done that.

Shewore - I always got the impression that's how it was run - great consideration given to feelings, etc. - but then I read Bendtner say, after going out on loan, that the first he knew he wasn't starting the Carling cup final was in the changing rooms on the day. And there was a bit of ruthlessness with Clichy, Denilson, Toure, Adebayor etc. wasn't there? But regardless, how do we make things better right now?
damiano_tommassi
dt, i dont mean to start a debate here but the inconsistent appraisal on the team is simply because we are being objective. we commended the team when they did well and we pointed to their shortcomings when they didnt turn up. it has become a norm now that whenever anyone question the performance of the team, he would be countered with the argument that we are not spending as much as some other teams, hence we should be appreciative. i just wonder how the argument holds when we talk about our performance (or under-performance) against teams with lesser budget like wolves, fulham & swansea and in the context of lack of commitment
Joe_@**
Thinking about it GV, and as I've said on here before - maybe if we'd spunked 50 million on Liverpool's fantastic Spanish striker last year, we'd be going great guns now. Oh, hold up...
damiano_tommassi
That's okay Joe, that's what this is for! Why do you think we lost the game? And is it unacceptable to lose a game to Swansea? For me, losing a game against a team that plays as well as Swansea did yesterday - and being able to throw-in a dodgy penalty given against us too - holds no shame.
damiano_tommassi
I'm looking forward to GV's comprehensive scouting report pulled together by the scores of professionals he has around the globe watching football for him. Making things better right now is a bit short term, we've been digging this hole for a while now, it has been altogether unavoidable but unfortunately not at the moment,
shewore
What's the hole, shewore? The fifteen years of success and increasingly-youthful (or 'long-term') squad?
damiano_tommassi
Damiano - let's say RvP got injured and was out for the next 4-8 weeks, how would you assess our prospects for the remainder of the season?
Gooner_Vin
GV - ****ed. Chamakh seems to have retired, Thierry's short-term and past his best (God bless him), Park is inexperienced in the European game and not looked first-team to me, Theo may WANT to play up front but he has 1/10th of the required abilities, Bendtner claims he'll never play for us again (which suits everybody!), Vela seemed to peak at 17 yrs old... who's left...
damiano_tommassi
it's not unacceptable to lose to swansea but it is unacceptable to take our foot off the pedal when we took the lead. song was practically merely walking around the pitch, ramsey was trying to imitate c. ronaldo's footwork, arshavin was not bothered, walcott was being his usual self and miquel was neither here nor there - these were unacceptable
Joe_@**
I've actually given up and am resigned to not finishing top 4 this season. I've come to a point where I'm losing my passion for following the team. It's hugely frustrating seeing us trying to play the world's best football without the world's best footballers. That is an equation that doesn't work. I do believe that something needs to change at Arsenal though, either what we've experienced in the last few seasons will be what we'll continue to experience for the foreseeable. I don't buy the injuries excuse either; Man Utd seem to be able to cope and be fighting for trophies despite being without key players.

i don't know about that Joe. Arsh, for example - I'm sure we're all confused, surprised and disappointed that he doesn't look a world beater, when he started with such promise. But do you not think his poor performance bothers him more that it'll ever bother me and you? You don't think that going from 'national hero' to 'no-one here wants you to play; we'd rather play a teenage AO-Chamberlain' hurts his pride? To say he's not bothered is, I think, massively unfair. It's certainly odd that he's been so poor (relatively), but you've got to believe it's not his choice to play that badly. Same Chamakh. Can't agree re: Song, Ramsey or Miquel, but Walcott is still not the player he 'should' be. yet.
damiano_tommassi
that's a fair evaluation on arshavin i must agree. i think it's not his fault. had he played in the 1999-2004 era in bergkamp's role, he would have done just as well with his natural technique and eye for through pass. essentially, he is a second striker, not a winger and he played superbly in his natural position until the age of 28 when he joined us. as for walcott, i still think he is the m. owen type of player and he was developed to play in such style in his southampton days. his first turn of pace upon receiving a pass would kill almost all central defenders in the league if he plays centrally and close enough to the box. unfortunate, that also requires a tactic that hoof longer passing from distant to allow him space to chase down the ball, something we never do here. i am just concern he would be wasted in the long term trying in vain to beat speedy fullbacks without the trickery required for a winger. to be fair, these could be a problem of job misfit. i think wenger have to realise that not all players have the versatility to be molded into different styles
Joe_@**
Arshavin's career will be looked back upon as a disaster, it was barely 2 years ago the only scraps he had were long balls punted up by Almunia... effin hell it makes me shake ny head when I think about it, years it's been happening for this bllox.

frustrated yep can agree but a bigger mob of moaners this site takes the cake. Think before you write and listen to what is being said. Question buy buy in this January market? 1. is the transfer date over yet? Perhaps we should at least wait till it closes Hmmm. Question why buy when we have four full backs coming back from injury? (Waste of money, what happens to them or the returning full backs who pays the wages for them?) According to you lot we have a team of clowns. Theo, only runs in straight lines, he overlaps and receives passes from Sanga, or Jenkinson; hold on they have been off sick. Kosi when he played in that position did Theo fail. The lad scored on Monday what more could you ask of him? Arshavin I would agree with you the blokes has failed to deliver and perhaps its time for him to go. Cast your minds back to a player who we sent off in tears not so many seasons ago and now the mass say thank god he is not playing in the ANC cup. In the game at Swansea we lost build a bridge and get over it. We lost to bloody Hull at home and they were not half the team Swansea are. Gentlemen we are shy of a Four full backs two centre backs and were down three on Saturday. Merts was and looked still sick IMHO. Gooner Vin if you feel you have lost interest in supporting our club please do yourself a favour and dont. Wynn along with Nicko you lost your anti opinions of this team when we recovered from our poor start to the season. Word of advice if you have nothing good to say and in all your posts I have or seem to have never found anything positive when we have a loss then shut up. Opinons are great if they are balanced not all bloody doom and gloom. Ramsey may have been trying hard to play extra but ffs sake dont run him down for that encourage. That lad will be one of the greats of Arsenal hes come back from a terrible accident and been made captain of his country and you doom sayers are running him down. He never stops trying and when jack and co return mark my words well there wont be a team in this EPL who will beat us. Life is a roller coaster and football mirrors that to a t. As said before build a bridge and get over it. As for TRH you are and always will be a Richard Cranium.

I'm sorry alwaysgunner but that's cobblers. My "anti opinion" of this team has changed not one iota for a good long while, I'll always support the team to the utmost when I'm in the ground but when I'm here I won't pretend everything is rosy when it hasn't been for a good few seasons. We've all witnessed performances I didn't think I'd ever see the shameful likes of this year passed and if it makes you uncomfortable that I discuss these performances in a sugar coated free fashion then so be it. Although I'm with Vin I have to say I really don't know if I can even be bothered to tiresomely rake over the same dog $h1t strewn ground any more and cry over the same old spilt soured milk let alone justify being arsed with this bunch of feckin defensively allergic halfwits any longer, I truly am sick of the sight of these limp wristed weak injury prone nappy filling mentally brittle children. Sod reclaim the streets I'm going for reclaim the weekend.

alwaysgunner - the last time I checked this forum was for fans to express their opinions, otherwise there'd just be articles and no option to comment and they'd call this site Vital Positive Speak Only Arsenal. I don't agree with the fans that go over the top in their personal criticism and hatred of the players, but think that a negative evaluation of our performance over the last few seasons is more than justified. Niko - reclaim the weekend - perfectly summed up!
Gooner_Vin
Could not agree more with you goonervin but all negatives and no positives? Read my comment for what they are worth I have negatives which I readily share but the positives more than outweigh the negatives. Give weight to the fact no fiction we have four full backs out. three centres and thats not including TV and Artetta. Thats not just a few missing thats half the team and we have been playing over the last few weeks without any full backs. Do we go out and buy more? Can we really afford to buy that many? How many should we have as the first team,60 0dd players? The footballers of yore are not the same as today. A game of football down to the pub and back at work on Monday in their normal jobs (a bit OTT but i think you know where I'm coming from. Today they are finely trained diet proper training and tuned to a fine edge. They run faster pass more train more and play more games than ever before,(including silly International friendlies). I have seen us mock deride our players who try hard Theo Song etc and then turn and acclaim them as giants the next week. The away supporters have shown the rest of us what it means to support the club. Is everyone saying that the whole team is rubbish? Has any weight been given for the fact we are down so many layers and dont give me the crap about Manure they have only just started to lose players. No team is in the position we have been in. Agreed it was disappointing that we lost when we were in a position to win frustrated you bet. Did the team try to win? Of course they did but having the majority of the first team not available, played a bloody big part. I likethe rest of the fans have been confused why parks Ryio have not played. I do understand the logic of trying to get Arshavin back to full confidence but that is the managers job not mine. As a fan all we have is faith and at the moment there appears to be none on this site IMHO which is what this site is for. I remember writing after our opening games for people to have faith. finally I once again say if you can have nothing positive at all to say about our club then shut up. (Hey but it is all a game of football).

alwaysgunner - at various parts of the season, and at times simultaneously, United have been without: Ferdinand, Vidic, Rafael twins, Cleverly, Anderson, Fletcher, Wellbeck, Young and Smalling. Yet they're 3 points off the top of the league despite a 6-1 thrashing at home. You know why? Their squad players are better than ours and their manager gets the best out of them, particularly with leaking of soft goals and playing with commitment and organisation. All I can say is that arseblogger's last two blogs from today and yesterday perfectly sum up how I feel.
Gooner_Vin
Man U have some excellent squad players who are happy to play bit parts for their career, Park is Very useful. Rosicky, AA, Djourou and I imagine Arteta will all be really useful in that roll. We need to buy and I really don't think overcrowding our L/RB positions is a good enough reason not to. Neither Gibbs or Jenkinson is yet to really prove their worth and neither are on massive wages. So buy now and look at who you want to keep in the summer. Player bashing needs to be logical. Theo was playing very well and heading to be top assist leader...who would've thought that?! He has obviously suffered from playing with a CB at RB, but he still took his goal very well. AA is not playing well, what was his assist like for RvP? Genuine question, I didn't see it, but it is still another assist for him isn't it? Over the years what annoys me and many others is watching us play so well against the top teams (8-2 aside) then play poorly against the 'smaller' teams. This can really only be down to management and I just think Wenger gives his players too much credit/respect. They are not as smart as him, they are young and joined an Arsenal that wins the league undefeated and that must affect an unfocused mind.

gooner vin accept they have had players out for small parts of the season. Look at ours Wiltshire out for over 19 games(not due back till Feb, Sanga out since Oct, Santos will be out for close to six months, Jenkinson out for three months? Gibbs mainly out for up to three months (all at the same time) Diaby most of the season. TV will have been out the least but that must add up to at least two to three months. Not at various times but bloody out for most of the season. N0 10 as at least (and I dont agree with all his comments) tried to present positives along with negatives but all i see on this blog of late and earlier in the season is negative negative. I am lost as to how you can possible support the club. I agree with nicko if you dont love the club then bugger supporting them just go shopping or do something else. We will now have the doomsayers baying for the bosses blood, what clowns. This manager is the best manager in my life time the same as H. Chapman was the best in my Dads time. As he has said judge me at the end of the season, but I suspect no matter what he does clowns will still be around wanting him gone.
alwaysgunner
Psst No 10 have a look at the stats of the game Swansea against us; its the managers fault; wow. Yeah sack him, ffs they make your statement silly. 23 shots on and off target against 14, sorry you were talking abut the corners yeah they had 9 to our 2, or they made 600 passes to our 400, but dont we knock our side on the number of passes..
alwaysgunner
i think some arguments here were out of context. a lot of the frustrations vented here were about how we tend to collapse in a games that have the quality to win and could win had we wanted hard enough. if we could play very well for the first 10-20 minutes and scored and played well again in the last 10-20 minutes to chase the game (wolves, fulham & swansea out of the last 4 league games), surely we could be better in the 50-70 minutes in-between, no? it's so frustrating to see the players started not closing down, jog around, doing some fancy stuffs and not tracking back to support the defense when we took the lead and ultimately ended up losing a game. it drove us mad to see the repeating trend
Joe_@**
@Alwaysgunner, never once have I said on here that we should sack AW. The stats say we had 14 shots of which 9 were on target not 14 off target + 9 on target to get your 23. The stats show a pretty even game, I'm saying if this team had played like they had against City the stats would've been very much in our favour and I think we would've at least got a point.
No 10
If only the team can get back to the form which saw us going 9 games unbeaten, between October & November, we should be fine; even going top 3. That group had resolve and was concerned about keeping clean sheets (admitedly, we had Santos and Jenkinson during the period). As the saying goes, if you don't concede, you can't lose. We need such grit now. That's what Wenger has to restore.
Naijagunner
23 shots on and off target against 14No 19 I thought you read my comment but it appears you have not. But I will try aggain we had 9 on target and 14off which equal 23. Swansea had 9 on target and 5 off which equals 14. see above the quote from me. This can really only be down to management This was your comment mine was in reply to yours its the managers fault; wow. Thus it would seem to be axiomatic to me (regarding comments from others and by inference your added info) lets sack the manager.
alwaysgunner
Alwaysgunner - Honestly, I responded to you post because it seemed to be a rather wild rant looking at the way it is written 'ffs they make your statement look silly' . Yes I read your post. Did you mine? I said that the fact we can play so well against 'top' teams yet lose/draw against 'smaller' teams is a managerial issue rather than a player issue....as the players are the same in each game.
No 10
Also: Re shots on/off target the stats show we had 14 goal attempts. That is the total number of goal attempts we had....both on AND off target. Of those 14 shots 9 were on target (therefore 5 off target (quite good I'd say)). That is the way shots stats are shown. So we had 14 shots not 23. I just thought it funny you chose to say my point was 'silly' when you misunderstood the way the stats are compiled.
No 10
no 10 i stand corrected and as in earlier post I agreed with you considering we were playing without many members is was silly to say we that is was down to management. I like all the other fans wonder why when we are at the point of making real headway higher up the table we seem to fail. Our manager is the best manager we have ever had and for my lifetime will be the bset. He doesnt go on the field he selects the best team available and i concur there should be no January transfer. It should cut off at least two weeks if not six weeks before the season starts proper. I wish people would just look at the talent we have and coming up. Five of our team will be full English internationals. Two if not three will be among the all time greats. (Wilshire and Ox). RVP/Ramsey/TV and Kos will be stars of their International teams with Coquelin and even young Miguel. We will have a star studded team I have no doubt. I cant wait to see Campbell play for us let alone Rio once he has found his feet. Sometimes I really am amazed at comments on this site especially against the Boss. I really wonder why I bother to read comments on this site at times perhaps I should just read the scums comments I know what to expect from them, they hate us,(in a football sense).
alwaysgunner
I agree that Wenger has been a great manager for us. He has brought me some of my happiest moments as an Arsenal fan. He has brought in some of the best footballers the PL has seen. He has ensured that our young talent is some of the most exciting in the world. But over the last few years he seams very slow to address issues that are continuous and on going; Contracts for top players, Scoring from set pieces, Conceding from set pieces and not performing to our ability against lesser opponents. Maybe the Swansea game doesn't highlight the last issue but that does not mean it isn't a recurring issue at all.
No 10
Throw-Ins!!! I've never seen a team (at any level) loose possession so regularly from a throw-in. Just another thing I remembered.
No 10
Prior to losing our entire full back line up along with TV I felt more happier defending set pieces. To be honest throw ins I have not paid particular attention to because generally both sides apart from certain teams who spend ages taking them after moving about 5 to ten meters away from the spot where the ball crossed the line, (refs rarely seem to make them take them from the spot)As for contracts is it the managers job? Wanting a certain player yes but that surely is the job of others. The boss has been blamed unfairly in that regard. He has always been an honest an fair manager who generally and i cant think where he has changed his mind in honouring his contact to us or promises made to players. Arry down the road has got away with it but wait till next season I wonder how many who were or are at the end of their contracts will stay. I think on every occasion he has said we want to keep this player or that player, in times gone past that would have been sufficient but now-days if money of the likes of certain clubs is offered then greed becomes the reason and no one no matter who will hold onto a player.
